In general it can be said that Portugal is ideal for all level of SUP, but unlike many other places here it is possible to advance in a relatively short time because we have small and in the off season small to medium size waves almost all year around. Despite, flat water spots can be found easily and are usually accompanied by some scenic surrounding.
In Lisbon, the most popular beaches for SUP are around Cascais. The bay of Cascais is sheltered from strong wind and waves by the harbor, further down the “Linha” there are more sheltered spots depending on the direction of the wind. Most areas only work in certain conditions, depending on the tide, current and wind. Our Instructors have the local knowledge to make a sound decision before you set out. This is why we prefer to “go with the flow” rather than compromising for more or less suitable conditions in one spot only.

Due to it’ s proximity to Portugal’s largest River , the “Rio Mondego” various conditions ranging from completely sheltered flat water to small waves up to serious size waves can be found all year around. Large parts of Land along the river have been turned into Natural Park, offering a unique natural backdrop for SUP tours and day trips.

The Beyond Boards team consists of highly skilled professionals that contribute to the company with what they do best. Tina Sahl (Owner)
Tina has spent most of her life travelling the world studying and working in the (water-) sports industry. In January 2012 she has moved to Portugal where she has set up Beyond Boards. She continuous working for the Starboard group while and, at the same time, she is coming up with new strategies to move Beyond Boards on the next level.

Lisbon/Cascais

If you choose to book your accommodation with us we can offer you several places close the spots we take you SUP or a partner Hotel in town. Once we receive your request we will check on availability and choose the most suitable place based on your budget. There is a wide range of places available that are close to the beach, walking distance to public transport and a short trip from downtown Lisbon.

Figueira Camp Key Features

We offer three types of lodging according to price, and lifestyle of the visitor:

Shared room – double cabins – 4 people per room with private bathroom and shared kitchen, Living and sharing experiences on a relaxed but confortable environment

Double Couple/Family – 2 couple beds with private bathroom. They provide excellent comfort for 4 persons. Ideal for families, 2 couples or even 2 persons.

Double Room - Queen Bed with private bathroom. These are ideal for couples, providing suites with excellent views of the city, the mountain and of course the sea.

The Villa - Accommodates 6 person small house with kitchen, BBQ area, pool and wifi all over the house. It is a recent building surrounded by lovely windows allowing you to enjoy the excelent sea and mountain views. It is easily accessible by car or by bus, 100m away from the waves and in close proximity many other surf spots.

If you are in the search for a SUP Camp or like to make SUP an integrated part of your holiday in Portugal, this is the place to be. We offer individual packages in different locations. It does not matter what your SUP level is, we can get you started from the start. For people with some experience, we offer advanced instruction. All services are available for individual travelers, groups or couples, don’t hesitate to contact us for your personal packages. 

Sub Camps

Beyond Boards offers complete vacation programs for beginner to intermediate Stand Up Paddlers. For a weekly all included stay, you can choose between two of Europe’s most famous Surf Spots, Figueira da Foz and Ericeira. Our local partners choose the best spots to SUP depending on the conditions and look after you throughout your stay. Staying at one of these locations allows you to focus on learning to SUP in a less busy environment with time to relax or venture off on your own to explore the sights around.

Sub Session
 
If you prefer to stay close to Lisbon or Cascais, we take you to the local spots along the coastline called the “Linha”. This might be a good option for visitors who only have a few days to spare, who like to get the most out of their water time but also spend time on one of the many other things to do around town. Usually we schedule SUP Sessions in the morning or mid day allowing you plenty of time for other activities.
•For visitors from abroad, we happily recommend you places to hang out, eat local food, or anything else you are looking for, just ask us.
•SUP-Sessions can be booked with or without accommodation.

Sub Yoga

Each SUP-YOGA session is a combination of easy paddling followed by a healthy Yoga practice that stretches your sore muscles. Exercising on a board is different from being on the ground, it requires various muscle groups to work together to keep you balanced. Everybody can decide on his own how much to push it, in any case it it’s a fantastic, well balanced work out to start the day.

FIGUEIRA DA FOZ
Figueira da Foz is located 204 km north of Lisbon, on the mouth of the Mondego River on the Atlantic Ocean an sheltered by hills. In Portuguese it has the nickname Rainha das Praias (Queen of Beaches) . In recent years it has become one of the top Surf destinations due to its consistent and unspoiled conditions which are hard to find anywhere else nowadays. 

LISBON/CASCAIS
Lisbon is one of the few capital cities close to a fantastic and extraordinary scenic coastline. Lisboetas love to come out for a Surf after work and on weekends to the so called “Linha”, the stretch of beach that goes all the way from Lisbon in easterly direction to the city of Cascais.

Characterization of surroundings/region

Portugal and particularly the area around Lisbon offer a multitude of outdoor activities to choose from. It’s proximity to the sea and the mostly warm climate makes it a top destination for water sports and activities on land and very often one can combine sightseeing with some fun activity.

Beside SUP, favorite water sports are Kiteboarding, Windsurfing and Kayaking. On land, the hills of SIntra offer fantastic mountain bike and trekking trails. And for a more leisurely outing one could bike along the scenic coast road all the way to Belem Tower. Any of these trips can be scheduled around your SUP-Session (1.5 hours), and are usually recommended for the afternoon.

Years ago, Figueira da Foz, was considered the queen of the Portuguese beaches. To this day it remains a popular tourist destination, welcoming all kinds of events year round. The summer streets are filled with young people, street animation, bars, pubs and clubs attract many tourists and turn it into a lively but chilled out place to hang out.
