ABOUT THE SURF CAMP


LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS

Our Surf Camp is located barely 90 meters from Famara beach. A Natural Reserve of unique beauty. Famara has different surf spots to please surfers from all levels. Most of them are located on a walking distance from our surf school. Wave and weather conditions are excellent throughout the year. Average temp is around 26 in summer time and 22 during winter so we can say that here we are living on an eternal spring.
The town has been protected from massive tourism and has remained untouched for over 20 years.  This is the charm of Famara, the perfect location for your surfing holidays if you are looking for a place to focus on your surfing and disconnect from the rest.
Besides, this is a surfers town and surf shops are spread all town long. Here, all is about surfing. That is the reason why Lanzarote is known as the European Hawaii.



CAMP CHARACTER

We have 2 surf houses with 20 places each. Both houses are located barely 90 meters from Famara beach and you can stay there for FREE is you book any of our surf courses, level 1, 2 or 3 (surfari).
The houses are fully equipped for self catering and have a large terrace with BBQ area.
People under 18 years old are not allowed in the houses. Average age is between 25 and 35 years old and we have as many people who come by themselves as people coming with parther or friends.
The house is usually full of people from many different countries and is very easy to make new friends as all the people in the house has one thing in common: Their passion for surfing J

Open all year round, we are the first Surfcamp in Lanzarote teaching surfing since 1996 in the Natural Reserve of Famara Beach.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING


ACCOMMODATION

The surf house has rooms for 1,2,3,4 or 5 persons.
If you need a private room to come with your partner or friends, just request it in advance, is FREE and you don’t have to pay any extra for it.
Bed linen and towels are provided by us.



CATERING

The house is fully equipped for self catering and also has a large BBQ area on the roof.
If you prefer to eat out you will find a bunch of restaurants and coffee shops just 100 meter away from the house.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES


SURF COURSE DETAILS

You can start with your course any day from Monday to Friday. Lessons are from 10 to 15h and include:
5 hours of surf school and fun including all material Picnic (course days) with hot sandwich, fruit juice, water Transportation to/from the beach Insurance Certified Instructors by BSA and as beach life guards



SURF MATERIAL
We provide the right material depending on your surfing level. We have soft boards perfect for beginners and brand new Pukas fiber boards for advance surfers.


OTHER ACTIVITIES
Once here and if you want to keep active after your surfing lessons we can arrange for you all other kind of extra activities such as kite surf, diving, trekking, mountain bike…

SURF CONDITIONS

Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots

Beginner lessons (Level 1) will take place in Famara Beach. A 4 kms hazard-free beach break spot perfect for learning.
Intermediate lessons (Level 2) will take place also in Famara beach and with a last day on a reef/rock spot as La Santa Bay.
Surfaris (Level 3) will take place all around the island depending on wave forecast and conditions.

Seasonal conditions

Lanzarote gets constants swells all year round but best season is from September to April when we get bigger swells and lower winds.
Water temp is around 20 degree during winter season and 23 during summer time. We recommend 3.2 mm wetsuit during winter months.
Weather here is pretty mild and we say that we are living on a eternal spring. Average temperature in the island is around 24º.

Crowd factor and local people

Famara beach stretches for 4 kms long so is very seldom crowded  apart from the people joing the surf courses.
Other intermediate/advance break points could be crowed on the good days but as long as you follow the rules you’ll be fine as Canary Island people are very friendly.

Characterization of surroundings/region

Declared in 1993 Reserve of the Biosphere by UNESCO Lanzarote represents one of the protected zone representatives of the main ecosystems of the world.
Created from volcanic origin Lanzarote has undoubtedly one of the most unique landscape that you will ever see.
Visit after your surfing lessons one of the 200 volcanoes existing on the island or the National Park of Timanfaya will be one of the highlights of your surf trip and a lifetime experience.

Activities and facilities

Once here and if you want to keep active after your surfing lessons we can arrange for you all other kind of extra activities such as kite surf, diving, trekking, mountain bike…
Despite Famara is a small fisherman town it has a few restaurants and supermarkets as well as many surf shops spread all over the place.


JOURNEY

Ways to get to the camp

Distance from the airport to Surfcamp is around 30 kms.
No pick up service is allowed to surf school at the airport.
To get here you can rent a car that will cost you around 120 euros/week or take a taxi for around 30 euros.

Important details

Be advised that there are no cash machines in Famara. You will find 3 cash machines as you walk out of arrivals gate to your left.

 Beginner Surf course – Level 1 - 250€ per person



We're all beginners, ready to learn how to catch waves and surf! No place to be ashamed ... You will share with everybody your progress surfing in a truly friendly environment.

Our surf instructors, certified by the "British Surfing Association" guarantee you'll be surfing in 25h. Learn all the safety measures necessary to practice this wonderful sport, as well as tides, rips, currents, weather, winds, etc ... and everything you need for that in the near future you best surfing.

All this with maximum safety. Our instructors are certified beach lifeguards. Calima guarantee that in 5 days or you'll be surfing again perform a new course for free.

This one week Surfcamp for beginners includes:

·         7 nights free accommodation in our residential academy in Famara
·         Monday to Friday surf school with transportation to the beach
·         Special soft material surfboards for beginners, neoprene and Red Lycra
·         10 to 13hr theoretical and practical lessons
·         13hr lunch on the beach (Monday to Friday) with hot sandwiches, water and fruit juice

 Intermediate Surf Course – Level 2 - 275€ per person



 

If you've done level 1 course, you know how to stand on waves but have difficulty to catch the wave before breaking and surf on the wall or you surf but not regularly and believe that you still need to learn before you start surfing rocky/reef breaks ... this is the level for you.

Our surf instructors, certified by the British Surfing Association will evaluate you on the first day, correcting what is necessary for your progress.

This one week Surfcamp for intermediate includes:

·         7 nights free in our residential academy Famara
·         5 day surf course
·         Transport to the beach
·         Epoxy material (Canary Surf surfboards), neoprene and orange lycra
·         10 to 13hr theoretical and practical lessons
·         13hr lunch on the beach (Monday to Friday) with hot sandwiches, water and fruit juice
·         13.30 to 15hr surf for free under the supervision of a monitor (Monday to Friday)
·         1 Surfari, depending on your level and wave conditions if you wished, you will make your first surfari to rocky breaks (Bay of Santa or Famara wreck).
·         Free surf material (Famara Beach) from Monday to Friday and Saturdays from 10:30 to 13:30 hr
·         Personal Photo-analysis
·         Level 2 Diploma
·         Monday to Saturday free internet service at surf school

 Advance Surf Course (Surfari) – Level 3 - 300€ per person



Do You know perfectly paddle to catch waves before they are about to break? Do You control enough to cross the wave to the left or right? Do you know how to stop and turn to skip anyone? ... Then this is the level for you!

Our Surfaris are NOT for "advanced" surfers but for surfers who are willing to improve their surfing in reef/rocky breaks under the care and personalized service of our guides / instructors.

For safety, we only realize in the Bay of Santa or Famara wreck. Our expert guides will inform you at all times of the difficulties of these waves, where to enter, exits, rips, hazards, etc ...

Our guides always will surf with you, will make video recordings, corrections and advice for new maneuvers ... choose the waves more appropriate depending on your surfing and avoid accidents. They will teach you how to behave in the water to avoid disrespect to the locals, and learn to avoid conflicts in the water, which undoubtedly will be useful for you to organize your future travel anywhere in the world...

This one week SURFCAMP for Intermediate / Advanced surfers includes:

·         7 nights free in our residential academy Famara
·         Transportation to Famara beach and la Santa
·         5 days of "Surfaris Classes" from 10 to 15hr
·         Extra light epoxy material, green lycra and neoprene
·         Surfaris 2/3/4 per week to la Santa. Depending on sea conditions will decide whether to stay on the beach or go to Santa (Monday to Friday)
·         Photos / 2 weekly video analysis, bug fixes, drills, how to duck dive, etc ...
·         Lessons and visual corrections
·         We will teach you to repair your tables with resin and other materials
·         Level 3 Diploma
·         Free surf material (Famara Beach) from Monday to Friday and Saturdays from 10:30 to 13:30 hr
·         Qualified (BSA) instructors and lifeguards
