Summary

The Castillo de Pavones is a relatively young hotel, established about four years ago, elegantly perched on a mountainside with a direct view of the famous Pavones point break, the longest left breaking wave in the world. OTHER ACTIVITIES

Yoga
We offer Yoga on the roof of the Castillo. Enjoy the incredible views while you sink into a perfect upward dog or balance into a crescent pose with a private yoga instructor. The setting is absolutely unforgettable. Groups are welcome!Excellent

Tubing
We offer two incredible tubing tours; a long and, for the adventurous folks, the long route. Both are gorgeous and take you through long stretches of jungle and end at the warm waves of the ocean. Feel free to hop off your raft periodically to check out waterfalls and some hidden side trails. There are a lot of hidden gems here, exploration is a must! The long route takes about 3 hours, while the short takes about an hour. Both are sure to impress!

Horseback Riding
We coordinate our horse rides through a local Biological Reserve called Tiskita. The horses are well-trained, experience is not necessary.
Tiskita Biological Reserve -The horseback trail that loops through Tiskita takes about three hours. Most of the trail is in the rainforest, and Tiskita’s horseback riding guide Paulo usually spots monkeys, sloths, macaws, or other wildlife along the way. When the tide is right, a section of beach can be included on the way back.
Beach Ride - The most popular beach ride we offer is to Rio Coco. Rio Coco is a coconut-fringed river that flows out of a rainforest valley, into the ocean. The river marks more or less the start of the Conte Burica Indigenous Reserve. It takes about an hour and a half to get there, and it is a great place for a swim. The paradise-like beach is typically very quiet, you may be the only person there.
Ride to Pavones - Another beach ride is to go to Pavones, the small surf town a few kilometers north from Tiskita. Along this beach ride you may see the locals fishing and surfing. When there is a good swell in Pavones, you can watch surfers from all over the world ride the famous wave. Pavones also has some small restaurants and shops.
Conte Burica Indigenous Reserve - This five hour ride starts out like the ride to Rio Coco (see above). From Rio Coco the trail cuts right through the rainforest (for the experienced or adventurous rider only), after which it winds through a mix of rainforest and pasture with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the Golfo Dulce. Although part of the ride is in the indigenous reserve, the reserve is only sparsely populated, so a chance to meet the locals, and buy local crafts, would have to be arranged specifically.

Waterfall Tour
There are spectacular waterfalls in and around Pavones. On this guided tour, we will take you all of the must see sites. Experience the the incredible rush of fresh water as it cascades from the mountains above. This is an unforgettable experience!

Nature Hike
You can’t leave Costa Rica without experiencing the unbelievable surplus of exotic animals. While you will get a taste of the wildlife from the balcony of the Castillo, to get the full experience, you have to go hiking! We work in conjunction with a local eco lodge that has many knowledgable guides who will take you through hundreds of acres of pristine preserved jungle. This is the experience of a lifetime!
There are many options for guided walks. An easily accessible trail is “the stream trail”, a trail that follows a small creek through the rainforest. A longer and tougher hike is “the back trail”, a trail that loops around the reserve.
Night Tour - For those interested to experience the rainforest at night, We can arrange a night tour when the conditions are right (moon, weather, animal activity etc.).
Birdwatching - Anybody can go birdwatching  there are so many birds around that you’ll easily spot many different species throughout the day. Guides are well trained in spotting and identifying birds, so they can help you find even more.

Sport Fishing
If stand up fighting a gray-hounding Marlin or Sailfish is on your must do list, then you are in the right place! We have teamed with the best Guides and crews available anywhere to bring you the greatest fishing experience ever. We understand serious fishing and only team with the finest boats, equipment and knowledge in the industry. In-shore or Off-shore, just let us know the species you wish to target and we will arrange the rest. Don’t miss the experience of a lifetime!

Traditional Fishing in the Golfo Dulce
The Castillo de Pavones faces the Gulfo Dulce, a large fjord. Here’s a summary about the Golfo Dulce by George W. Bassel: “The Golfo Dulce in Costa Rica is one of three tropical fjords in the world. This unique aquatic habitat is home to a great diversity of marine life including dolphins, sea turtles, tropical fish, and is an important place for humpback whales and whale sharks to both breed and give birth. The beaches surrounding the Golfo Dulce also serve as a major nesting ground for hawksbill, Olive Ridley and leatherback ocean turtles.” It is possible to go fishing with a local fisherman for Red Snapper, Yellowfin Tuna, Roosterfish, Kingfish, Dorado, Mackerel, and more.
