ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS

Playa Hermosa and Playa Jaco is one of Costa Rica’s most popular beaches in the Central Pacific Coast for surfing with the most consistent surf, variety of breaks and great exposure to swells for our clients.

Playa Hermosa is our advanced surfing beach with an incredible shore break that is one of the strongest in the world.Located less than a 5 minute from Jaco, Playa Hermosa attracts some of the greatest surfers to the area.

Playa Jaco is where our beginners learn to surf in gentle waves in the south end of the beach. The shoreline stretches over 2 km long and affords Del Mar a variety of surf for all learning levels.

The moment I came to Nosara for the first time 5 years ago, I knew this was the place for me. Two years later I was living here full time and working as a hotel manager. Nosara slowly changed my way of thinking, my spirit, my body and my life. Slowly, I became aware of the more simple but more important everyday things. Slowly, I became healthier and shed the destructive habits of the normal city life. Living in a secluded place helped me learn to go with the flow and lead a less stressful life. Club del Mar Hotel, Beach Front:
In  Jaco - our home base is Hotel Club Del Mar & all beginner surf lessons start right out front of this hotel. Located in the quiet end of South Jaco, you are surrounded by the rainforest, ocean breezes and scarlet macaws flying over announcing the sunset.

Our packages are offered in private and shared accommodations as follows. Please note that our deluxe room has two double beds complete with ocean view balconies. All rooms are air conditioned with a telephone, coffee maker, hair dryer and a safe. This applies to our All Inclusive, Self Guided & SUP Packages.

SURF COURSE DETAILS

At Del Mar Surf Camp – if you are just starting to surf, have never been on a board or have surfed a few times, know how to paddle out and want a refresher, the beginner level packages are just for you. “Will I ride a wave during my first week?”  “Absolutely. YES!” Your first welcome & beginner surf lesson will take place in South Jaco in front of Club del Mar Hotel (Playa Hermosa, Jaco) or in front of the grass hut in Playa Guiones (Playa Nosara). In all the cases, with any one of our packages we will be sure to pick you up and take you there each day. During the week, depending on your level and conditions of the swell, we will take you to different areas of the beach (maybe a different beach in Hermosa, depending on the conditions) to surf in a variety of waves.

Beginner Surf Lessons
Our surf lessons are scheduled according to the tides to ensure the best learning conditions for beginners. We will start your surf lesson with a workshop where you will learn the basics of surfing, safety tips, paddling techniques, standing up on a board and riding waves.All our knowledgeable surf instructors are ISA (International Surfing Association), CPR, Open Water Rescue and First Aid certified to guarantee a safe and amazing experience.

- Surf Lesson Including All Equipment & Rashguard Use (2 hours): $65 per person

Advanced Surf Tours:
If you've come to Costa Rica to surf, get the best local surfing experience possible! This program is designed for experienced surfers & includes all transportation to popular breaks in Hermosa, Jaco, Esterillos, Agujas, Punta Leona, Nosara & Santa Teresa / Mal Pais. (depending on swell & conditions).

- 1 Surf Session (2 hours): $80
- Add extra person to your tour: $20/person (up to four persons)

Private Surf Lessons
Our surf instructors will start with a demonstration along with a stretching program on the beach. Our goal is to make you feel safe, secure and confident in the water. Basic surfing skills, safety tips, paddling techniques, standing up on a board and riding waves will part of your instruction. With a ratio of one student per one instructor, you can guarantee that you will catch the ideal waves for a beginner.

- 1 Private Surf Lesson (2 hours): $80

Family Surf Lessons
Enjoy a day of surfing with the family in the water! The surf lesson will start with a review of surf tips, basics, safety, paddling techniques and practice popping up on your board on land. Then with a maximum of 2:1 surf instructor ratio, you can guarantee that the whole family will be taken care of and catching waves for a great family day of fun and laughter!

Surf Lesson Including All Equipment (for 4): $200

Jaco has a fun & casual community atmosphere, catering to tourists who want a nice relaxing lifestyle, with easy access to all local attractions, mountains, hotels, restaurants and for those who want to shop and see the city.

One of the areas most biggest advantages is being the closest beach town to the San Jose airport (1.5 hours) away on paved roads. Easy access to some of the countries most beautiful parks including Manuel Antonio. With some of Costa Rica's most accessible roads, comes a surf town that is home to a great variety of restaurants, luxury condos, surf shops and attractions.

The area also paves way for some of the best adventures with trails for hiking, mountain biking, stand up paddling and outdoor fitness - so there is no shortage of outdoor adventures available in Playa Hermosa, Jaco. You can also add to your holiday adventure: Zip Line / Canopy tours, Horseback riding to a magical waterfall or enjoy the beautiful surroundings from a Kayak or a Stand Up Paddle Board.

Yoga classes are held daily and are an excellent compliment to our program. Our yoga instructors will adapt each class to the level of the students with the objective of improving your surfing skills. It is a challenging, dynamic class to help you achieve optimal alignment. The class will finish with relaxation and a short meditation.

Ways to get to the camp
The closest airport, next to the surf camp, is called Juan Santamaria International Airport. From there you can catch a shuttle bus or taxi. It's a easy 2 hours ride.

Important details
Not all people who wish to travel to Costa Rica need a tourist visa; this will depend on your nationality, purpose of visit, country of residence and duration of stay. Visa requirements are based on international agreements or treaties. However,  the visa does not guarantee entry to Costa Rica and, as in the United States, this depends on the immigration officer upon arrival.
