Officially recognised as Europe's first World Surfing Reserve in 2011, this uniquely beautiful and traditional fisherman's village is situated just a 40 minute drive from the Portuguese Capital, Lisbon.

So, one of the best activities to do in Ericeira is surfing and the sandy beaches are perfect for beginners as well as the perfect waves that roll over rocky bottoms are ideal for those who have surfed before and want to get the most out of Ericeira's waves.

About Us

We are a team of surfers and life lovers passionate about making our and your dream happen – freedom, friends, fun, lots of love and good waves in a pristine environment – these are the pillars, which the ERICEIRA CHILL HILL is built upon. While living our dream we are not only thinking of ourselves, but also of our next generation. Therefore it is our goal to support three important matters:

-Portuguese tradition: we want to maintain the precious and unique Portuguese heritage and let our guests know about the history of the country and all the great places and products that are related to it, such as the delicious wines and olives, the multifunctional natural product cork, the famous Portuguese tiles, the beautiful city of Lisbon, the magnifique convent in Mafra, the magical castle-town Sintra and the Sintra-Cascais Nature Park only a stone´s throw away from our beautiful beach town Ericeira and much, much more.

-Positive Social Impact: We are absolutely sure that once good people meet, they will stay in touch and slowly, but surly create a worldwide network of conscious human beings. At the Ericeira Chill Hill we want to support this process by offering a friendly and welcoming location where people can come together and share their ideas.

-Mother nature: We are profoundly convinced that a healthy and clean environment is the key to a good life and a better future. Our goal is to minimize our ecological footprint on the environment. In order to achieve this we try to save resources, like water and electricity and motivate our guests to do the same. We have integrated a renewable source of energy, our solar power system and most of our furniture is professionally remodeled and up cycled. We also focused on using local building material and of course we separate waste at the Ericeira Chill Hill.

ACCOMMODATION TYPES

We offer 3 different Houses:

The CHILL HILL 1: 

Located on the hill, in the center of the charming fisherman´s village Ericeira, the CHILL HILL  is blessed with a great view towards our beloved ocean and beaches. Most of our rooms have a balkony and face the waterfront. After a long and relaxing day under the hot portuguese sun you might also want to enjoy our garden well-stocked with couches, hammocks a big grill and everything else you need to kick back, relax & let your soul fly!

The PEACH GARDEN: 

This Hostel was open on May 2014, and the idea it was to give a reply to our demand at Chill Hill 1, because many times we don’t have availability for our guests at the first Hostel. So, Ericeira Chill Hill Hostel & Private Rooms – Peach Garden is located near Ericeira Chill Hill Hostel & Private Room (1), 50 meters of distance, in the same street, where is the reception for both Hostels, and right next to the Ericeira Health Center. It features a shared lounge area and a garden fitted with BBQ facilities. With views of the surroundings or to the Atlantic Ocean, private rooms and dormitories with a great sea view, all come with free Wi-Fi access.

The SEA FOOD:

Ericeira Chill Hill Hostel & Private Rooms – Sea Food was open on February 2015, and is part of the growth of the project Chill Hill hostels in Ericeira. Located on a hill and has a great sea view to the Atlantic Ocean. It´s a place ideal for relax and where you can see great’s sunsets in the afternoon, to stay reading a book near the swimming pool, or to take a drink and talking with other customers. Ericeira Chill Hill Hostel & Private Rooms – Sea Food is located to the South Beach and Foz do Lizandro Beach (5 minutes walking by foot) and near to the center of Ericeira village where you can find many restaurants with Portuguese food (good grilled fish, mussel, goose barnacle, octopus, tuna, squid, cuttlefish, and many others sea food) or international food and many pubs. In the night if you prefer to relax you can stay with others customers at the terrace and make a barbecue. If you prefer to go to the center, 5 minutes walking, you can find many people from all over the world, and much animation. This Hostel (more expensive than the others, because it has a private swimming pool and two private rooms have a private bathroom) has a great sea view to the Atlantic Ocean and all rooms had a great view. 

CATERING

Ericeira Chill Hill Hostel & Private Rooms offer every day a continental breakfast (included in the price) and we have a shared kitchen with all equipments, and a barbecue, where is possible to cook any food.

In the terrace/garden is possible to eat with other guests and each week we prepare a barbecue for all guests.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

SURF COURSE DETAILS

Ericeira Chill Hill Hostel & Private Rooms offers full Surf Camp packs for every surfing levels. We Surf School - our certified surf school - is based at the camp and the lessons will take place in the world class point break of Ribeira d'Ilhas (the Meca of Portuguese Surf) or the popular beach break of São Julião. 

Our surf lessons have a maximum of 16 people per lesson and 8 people per instructor. All lessons are coordinated by a licensed local surfer, and supported by a team of well trained and experienced instructors. 

The schedules are different each day, but if you stay one week, on Sunday, we affixed the schedules for each week.

The course are, usually, in English, but we also talk Spanish, French and, of course, Portuguese.

If you wish, it´s possible to stay in other place and to have surf lessons with us. For this situation, contact us, please.

SURF MATERIALS

All equipment is included in the price (board, wetsuit and botties).

If you wish, it´s also possible to rent equipment for surfing.

JOURNEY

Ways to get to the camp

Coming from the airport by car:
Highway A8 and then A21 will take you to Ericeira: Leaving the airport on Av. Berlim, turn left on Av. Cidade do Porto and follow the signs towards highway E1 direction A1 Norte/A8 Oeste/A12 Sul; take exit 14 on IC17/CRIL towards A8 Oeste; take the exit towards A8 direction Leiria/Loures and follow that road for 16km; take exit 5 towards N8/Mafra/Malveira and follow the highway A21 until the end. After passing the toll take the 3rd exit at the roundabout on Rua alto da Camacha, follow the road for 700m and turn left on Estrada do Rego (or Rua do Rego); at the 3rd junction turn right on Rua Coronel Bento Roma, then take the third road on your right, it´s our street, Rua Nelson Gomes Salvador. Follow the small road until the end: the Hostel is the last house on your left hand side. Welcome!

The fee for the toll (for a car) is 2,90 Euro one way, make sure you don’t take the fast lane and always get a valid ticket at the ticket machine!

Public transport
From Lisbon to Ericeira: A cheap and convenient way to get from Lisbon to Ericeira is taking the public bus. Leaving from Campo Grande in Lisbon there is a direct connection to Ericeira city center, first bus departs at 06:27 am until 11:40 pm. It takes between 45 minutes (fast bus) and 85 minutes. Campo Grande is a main metro station where you can get onto the yellow and the green line, which takes you within 20 minutes to the heart of the city. Coming from the Airport just catch a Metro to Campo Grande. The whole trip (airport – Campo Grande – Ericeira Bus Terminal – walk to Hostel) takes up to 3 or 4 hours, depending on how lucky you are with catching a bus straight away.

From Ericeira Bus Terminal to the Ericeira Chill Hill: Take the back door (green fence) of the bus station, turn right and go up the hill on Rua Orlando Morais. At the roundabout turn right (Rua Eduardo Paulo). At the next roundabout turn right (Rua José Gomes Salvador). At the end of the street (you will see 3 big palm trees) turn left on Estrada do Rego and left again (it is the first left you can take). Walk straight on Rua Coronel Bento Roma until you are in front of a big brown building (Centro de Saúde): turn right there (into Rua Nelson Gomes Salvador, that´s our street). Go to the end of the street, Lote 40, Nº6 – you will see the bamboo of the Chill Hill: Welcome!
