We are a beach front hotel in Santa Catalina Panama. We are located directly in front of the world class surf break at Santa Catalina Panama, and the paddle out channel is at our doorstep! Our location is ideal for anyone coming to surf Santa Catalina, dive Coiba island, scuba Coiba, fish in Panama, or just hang out at our beautiful beaches of Santa Catalina, Republic of Panama.

We are just a few minutes walk from all the best restaurants, bars, town center and other beaches. Isla Cebaco and Isla Coiba are within a short boat ride from our property.  A variety of snorkeling, kayaking, and scuba tours to Coiba Island as well as fishing tours to Cebaco Island are available.

We offer FREE use of our surfboards, skateboards, and bicycles, plus FREE Wi-Fi internet, and free use of our computer in our reception office.

Hotel Santa Catalina Panama offers nice rooms, with comfortable memory foam beds, 100% Egyptian cotton bed linens, air conditioning, ceiling fans, en-suite bathrooms with hot water and blow dryer, mini-refrigerator, and en-suite free lockers. Our rooms have up to 4 beds per room, and each room has a terrace with hammock, table and chairs. We also have a large rancho (bohio) with the delicious Bannaba cafe / restaurant, flat screen TV with Sky TV (Satellite TV), DVD player, and a large lounge area with hammocks, chairs, tables, ping-pong table, and bathroom.

Previously known as Kenny’s Surf Camp in Santa Catalina Panama (since 1981), in 2010 we have completely re-designed and re-constructed, using all natural sustainable materials including stone, rock, clay tile, and local tropical hardwoods. Scuba Diving Tours in Santa Catalina take you to Coiba Island Panama (Isla Coiba Panama), where you will see an incredible variety of underwater sea life.  Coiba Island, once a prison camp operated by the Panamanian government, is now a national park and a natural sanctuary protected by UNESCO.

Coiba Island boasts the widest variety of coral species, and you will be amazed by the impressive schools of fish, turtles, squid, eels, sharks, dolphin, whales, and much more.  Day trips are available as well as overnight trips for either scuba tours to Coiba, or snorkeling tours to Coiba and surrounding islands.

Santa Catalina Surf Tours

Our surf trips to Catalina take you to one of the best and most consistent rock bottom point breaks in Central America. Catalina is a 6 hour drive northwest of Panama city and the hotels sit either directly on the point overlooking the long right hand lava rock point break, or a 2 minute walk from the town of Santa Catalina.

flowercatalina_ice-print_keAs described in the Surf Report, Santa Catalina is “A perfect point break with long, hollow, powerful waves over volcanic rock bottom. One of the most consistent and biggest surf breaks in Panama, rarely under 4? and as big as 15-20? faces with a good swell.”

The tides fluctuate up to 18? between high & low tide creating a variety of conditions and strong tidal push. Catalina is best at medium to high tide, however when the swell is over 8 feet, you can normally surf right through the low tide. Low tide gets really shallow and hollow with steep drops and very fast walls. The break is a center peak with rights and lefts, however the rights are more perfect and hollow than the lefts.

Since Santa Catalina is an internationally recognized surf spot, you will generally surf with anywhere from 5 to 10 surfers in the water. On crowded days, we have seen up to 30 surfers in the water. However, in many cases, our guests surf the point alone. Hotel Santa Catalina is located directly in front of the world class surf break and the paddle out channel is at the hotel doorstep!

We are an ocean front hotel in Santa Catalina Panama, founded by Kenny Myers, a Panamanian-American surfer and artist. Kenny originally purchased the Hotel Santa Catalina site in 1981, where he would spend much of his time surfing, painting, and creating works of art and making necklaces of puka shells found on the beaches of Santa Catalina.

Since its discovery in 1974, for many years, the Santa Catalina surf break was a secret, only surfed by a select group of Panamanian friends, who had made a sacred pact to keep it a secret. Kenny and his friends enjoyed the empty virgin tubes of the legendary Santa Catalina point break for years, until the secret got out, and the first Santa Catalina surf camp opened its’ doors to the public in the mid 1990?s. Since then, several small hotels and hostels in Santa Catalina have welcomed travelers, surfers, divers, and fishermen to the warm waters of Santa Catalina in the Republic of Panama.

 Kennys Surf Camp originally catered mainly to the Panamanian surf community, and later, in 2009 we tore down the old house, re-designed and in 2010 we re-constructed the new Hotel Santa Catalina, focusing on the use of all natural sustainable materials, including stone, slate rock, natural clay tile, and several tropical hardwoods, which give the hotel a very unique look and feel. Our goal was to preserve nature with low impact, while offering a highly comfortable experience for our guests.

 We have put a lot of thought into the details of our hotel, with personal touches to everything from our wood craftsman hand made teak hardwood beds and furniture, to our extremely comfortable memory foam beds, interesting indirect lighting, and use of non-toxic natural wood sealers. Our rancho (bohio) is made of all natural palm thatch, and all of our furniture is made of eco-friendly reforested teak hardwoods.

Our natural environment is an extremely valuable resource, and one of our goals is to enable our customers to experience living in a natural environment, surrounded by all natural elements, while being totally comfortable and safe!
