ABOUT THE SURF CAMP
LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS
The hotel stands at 100 meters from Alagoa Beach, one of the very few Madeira Island sand beaches and an excellent place for the practice of surf, body board, stand up pedal and surf guide.

Our Group
After various years of experience of life in the surfing world, our two friends decided to pass their passion for the sea to the new generations, starting up the Calhau Surf School. Some years later they decided to amplify their experience together moving from the sea to the land by managing an Hotel.
So after some years we can now count on two enterprises : a touristic relaxation one and an hotel management one.
Our Team
Rodolfo Machado
Architect, keen on surf, that he has practiced for more than 30 years. This passion leaded his trips to surfing destinations arround the world, like Australia, Hawai, South Africa, Costa Rica, Maldives, Indonesia among others.These trips inspired him on his choices for the setting up of Hotel Vila Bela, a place where your imagination will easily transport you to all these destinations.
Belmiro Mendes
Graduated in Tourism, surfer, surf instructor, he was born at Jardim do Mar, where he made his first surfing steps. He has taken part in several national and international surf contests and counts many victories on his golden register, having been regional champion seven times.

The hotel has got 9 seaside view rooms and 3 mountainside view rooms. Our rooms do offer fabulous views over the mountains and the sea of the small town of Porto da Cruz.
Due to its location, surrounded by the mountains, the rooms looking onto this side offer marvellous views of this typical panorama.
Due to its position, at just a few meters from the sea, the rooms overlooking the ocean make you feel like being on the deck of a cruiser.
All the rooms are equiped with television, satellite connection, desk, air-conditioner, bathtub, telephone, strong-box, table and chairs on the balcony.

The Vila Bela restaurant and bar, situated on the Porto da Cruz seaside promenade, is a relaxed and informal place where the owners’s hospitality will make you feel at home.
The restaurant, reflecting its main character, offers a menu of several delicacies but also traditional courses and desserts. Among our several delicacies we can bring to your attention the fried chourizo with herbs, fried eggs with “farinheira” (traditional portuguese sausage), stewed mushrooms, fava beans with bacon, octopus salad and so on…
At the bar you can find the perfect sangria to drink with you delicacies. For a relaxing moment take advantage of our esplanade while contemplating the imposing Atlantic Ocean.
