Peniche and Baleal have a long history of excellent surfing in Europe. Beautiful, remote beaches with constantly breaking, perfect waves allow you to surf here all year long. The unique location of the long peninsular offers a huge variety of different surf spots for all levels and kind of skills.

The picturesque fishing village is located 80 km north of Lisbon and attracts surfers to travel here not only because of the good surf conditions but also because of the mild climate, the delicious, traditional food, and its friendly locals.

CAMP OPERATOR

Max Reuter, German champion senior class 2001 and former member of the National Surf Team Germany, founded one of the most successful surf camps in Peniche / Portugal in 1996. 

From the beginning on, he has been supported by his experienced and well-coordinated team. The camp as it is today has been formed by Max' numerous surf experiences he has had all over the world as in Costa Rica or Indonesia.  

The focus of the team has always been on providing the guests with professional and customised high-quality support: comfortable apartments, top-quality surf gear, and surf spots for all levels. Having fun while learning the fascinating sport is certainly the main goal!

To provide excellent classes of high standard all our instructors have completed officially approved training courses at German or international Surfing Associations. All instructors in our team are not only experienced and expert surfers but also highly motivated to help improve your skills.

Besides the instructors our receptionists, bistro-waitresses and drivers are always ready to help you with your daily needs.

ACCOMMODATION

The camp is located only a 5 minutes walk away from several beaches, including the famous left hand reef break Lagido, the north facing beach break Prainha, and the west facing beach Cantinho.

Our facilities are typical for the coastal region in Portugal. They consist of several apartments surrounding a nice courtyard that invites to hang out, have a BBQ etc. Each apartment contains two to three rooms, ranging from single to 4-bed rooms. All apartments include a fully equipped kitchen, toilet, and bathroom with shower, living room with sofa, cable TV, and DVD/ VCR. Our quiet roof-deck tempts to relax and watch the sunset. Not far from the camp you can find supermarkets and many cafés, bars, and restaurants. To explore the beautiful landscape in the regions around the camp we recommend renting a bike.

CATERING

in our little snack bar we provide you with everything you need for a full-on surf day: coffee, fruit shakes, sandwiches, salads and much more. Afterwards, you can relax with typical local drinks while watching surf videos on our flat screen or flip through surf mags. In the evenings you have the possibility to participate at our camp dinner.

At our iMac station you can use the Internet or bring your own laptop to use the wireless Internet connection.

A washing machine, rental bikes, movies and skateboards are also available here.

SURF COURSE DETAILS

Beginner course:
Target group: no experience at all to three-day course experience

This course is designed to introduce you step by step to the theoretical and practical basics of surfing. Basic practical goals of this course are learning how to take off in white water, getting to know diving techniques, and finally taking off in unbroken waves.

Besides that you will learn about the development of waves and currents and how to handle them correctly. In the beginner course we also focus on increased supervision in the water for your safety. A personal analysis via video is also part of this course.

In our surfer van we are able to reach the most suitable spot for the day, quickly. The course starts on Monday and finishes on Friday and includes 5 hours / day (there are no courses on the weekends). In the beginner course soft boards are used to guarantee a safe start. The equipment is available during class and on the weekends.

Intermediate course
Target group: at least one week course experience, confident take-off in white water, basic theoretical knowledge

This course follows immediately after the beginner course and is designed to intensify basic skills.   The main aim of this course is to learn how to take off on green waves and ride them on a hard board.

The instructors will give you tips to improve your surfing directly in the water. In the intermediate course you will learn about tides and the history of surfing and board shaping. We will also work with video analysis in this course.

To reach the most suitable spot matching the course level we will be able to drive you in our surfer van to different spots. The course starts on Monday and finishes on Friday and includes 5 hours / day (there are no courses on the weekends). The equipment is also available after class and on the weekends.

Advanced course
Target group: confident take-off and ride in unbroken wave, knowledge of surfing rules 

In the advanced course we focus on intensified and individual coaching. Advanced techniques like bottom turn, cutback, and correct timing are elements of this course.

Hard boards of different sizes are available during the whole time and can be chosen according to the surf conditions. In the evening we will watch surf movies – starring you guys!

The course starts on Monday and finishes on Friday, two times / day (there are no courses on the weekends).  Local surf instructors will introduce and guide you to the most suitable spots in the area. The course can be booked following the intermediate course or individually. The equipment is available throughout the whole week.

One to one lesson
Target group: everyone who seeks even faster improvement

In private tuitions with our experienced instructors you will benefit from intensive, individual 1:1/ 1:2 supervision. Beginners start with the actual take-off on the first day. Advanced students will be able to take great advantages out of this individually specified training to improve their personal skills. Private lessons are held at the best possible surf spot regarding wave conditions and the student's level.


Apura Yoga Maximum Surfcamp

The Yoga
The yoga practice will be based on Vinyasa flow and Hatha yoga. Vinyasa flow combines the breath with the body’s natural ability for movement to create a flowing, dance like practice, which burns away toxins in the body and clears the mind. The Hatha yoga aspect of the practice is focused on the foundation of the asanas, or yogic postures, and will allow you to understand the dynamics of your body and to feel the proper alignment within each asana. We will be doing 2 sessions per day the first one being fairly vigorous in the morning to warm up the body and the second being a cooling down and restorative practice from the days surfing activities.   The Vinyasa flow will compliment your surfing ability through balance, coordination and strength and will leave you feeling fully energized and healthy afterward.   

The Surf
Every day Apura Yoga will take you to the best surfing beaches in the Peniche area. Your surf coaches are internationally licensed backed by years of experience. Each day our instructors introduce you to the basics of surfing, or help to improve your skills. With a two hour practice session each day and theoretical lessons on the beach, we give you a professional start into this great sport or take you to the next level, no matter what your skill are at the moment.   

The Camp
The camp is located only 200m from the beach, has spacious apartments, a terrace with seaview and a patio for BBQs and chilling. In our bistro-lounge we offer breakfast buffet, lunchpacks for the beach, snacks, fruits, and hot and cold drinks as well as internet access.    The

Massage
We have different kinds of massage available ranging from relaxing, gentle massages to therapeutic massages to help alleviate painful tense muscles. The massage room is located in our camp.
Just perfect after a full-on surf day.

Yoga
Yoga classes will be twice a week after returning from the beach. 

Hatha Yoga: Relaxing static poses to develop flexibility and still the mind, helping to increase mental focus

Vinyasa Flow Yoga:Functional surfing movements flowing from one to the other, improving flexibility, strenght and balance

Fatum Surfboard Factory
In additionto our surf lessons we take you to Fatum Surfboards. It is based in Peniche andtheir surfboards are widely known in Europe.

Here, you can learn everythingabout surfboards, the latest shaping techniques and board styles. A tourthrough the factory explains how a surfboard is created from the blank to thefinished board.

NEW: Since 2010 we are now the official Fatum Surfboards Testcenter. We have the best of Gero´s current shapes in our camp for you to try for free. See how your dream board feels in the water before you buy it or have one custom made just for you.
