Das Appartement war groß (Schlafzimmer, Bad und Wohn- und Essbereich mit gemütlicher Sofa-Ecke). Die Surfschule war nur wenige Gehminuten vom Tao Appartement entfernt. Auch ein Supermarkt war in unmittelbarer Nähe. Die Surfschule war sehr nett und die Surflehrer kompetent. In meiner Gruppe waren insgesamt 6 Surfschüler. Die Surflehrer haben sich viel Mühe gegeben. Wir waren eine lustige Gruppe und es hat sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Das war definitiv nicht mein letzter Surftrip :-) Ich kann die Surfschule sehr weiterempfehlen. In Morro Jable ist alles zu Fuß zu erreichen. Sowohl die Strandpromenade als auch Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind in unmittelbarer Nähe zu erreichen. An der Strandpromenade kann man sehr schön spazieren gehen und am Meer die Seele baumeln lassen. Auch bei den Restaurants hat man eine große Auswahl an europäischen, italienischen, mexikanisch und amerikanischen Essen.

ABOUT THE SURF CAMP



Location and surf conditions
The surfcamp in Morro Jable (the Casa Alberto and the Hostel) are only 3 minutes (less than 300m) away from the sea. Morro Jable is a nice, small fishing village, in which you can experience the authentic Spain.
In addition you find small cozy tapas bars, a promenade with seafood restaurants and small shops as well as low budget supermarkets. For our guests we can arrange a half-board in the Spanish restaurant "El Callao", which is directly located to the small promenade of Morro Jable. The El Callao offers a small terrace with sea view.There are also regular sponsorship events, such as live music instead. Only 10 minutes’ walk to the beach promenade or 5 minutes with our Beach Cruiser Bike away, you find “Cruz Roja” - one of the best waves of the island. The long right-hand waves and short left waves are ideal for beginners and advanced surfers.

Surf Camp in Costa Calma (the bungalows) is located directly on the beach. Less than 2 minutes to walk away, there are restaurants, small shops, bars and a favorable supermarket. The bungalows are particularly well suited for groups, families with children or guests, looking for peace and relaxation. Those, who give no great value on nightly activities beside the surf lessons, too. Once in the week we get all of the guests to our common surf-school-dinner. We also offer a shuttle service back to your accommodations.


Camp character

Our surf camp is for persons older than 18 years old. Young people can join us from the age of 16 years if they have a written consent of their parents. The average age of the participants is of the early/mid 20's to the middle/end of 30. The courses are held in German, English and on request also held in other languages. Families with Children are very welcome. By the two possibilities/Costa Calma and Morro Jable, is something for every taste. Guests traveling alone find other single travelers in Morro Jable. Also from there we start all our evening activities.

The camp in Costa Calma is a quiet place, which is also highly recommended for families. Young parents are also welcome. On request cots can be provided and the surfing course can be divided among the parents. Pets can be requested in Morra Jable as well as in Costa Calma.

Christof is the founder of OTRO MODO surf school & camp. He has more than 9 years of experience being a surf instructor and worked for surf school and surf camps in France, Spain, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Indonesia. With feedback sheets, weekly team meetings and regularly on the job trainings he guarantees the steady quality of the surf courses and surf guiding.

Our Surf Camps - our Casa Alberto in Morro Jable and our Bungalows in Costa Calma

Only an accommodation that makes you feel at home and welcome will make your surfing holiday an unforgettable experience. This includes a quiet location near the beach (all accommodation are less than 200m away from the sea!), neat and  well-kept facilities, as well as small shops and boutiques, cosy restaurants, fishermen´s taverns and of course a disco in walking distance. A delicious dinner and Spanish sounds will complete your day.

We offer different kinds of accommodation for every budget and taste. Our surf camp in Morro Jable - the Casa Alberto is ideal for single travellers and people who want to meet new people and spend time with the other surfers of the group.Our surf camp in Costa Calma - the bungalows – are ideal for young families and couples and people who want to relax as much as possible. Once a week all guests have dinner together in a typical Canarian fish restaurant in Morro Jable. For this we pick up our guests from the bungalows. For our guests in Morro Jable we organise a half-board in the Spanish restaurant "El Callao". We also do a beach BBQ, an extra theorie evening and a table soccer turnament.

The Appartment
The Casa Alberto is located in Morro Jable, only 2 minutes walking from the sea. With its rustic fishermen taverns, its Tapas bars in the narrow lanes, its friendly local people and its little seaside promenade - Morro Jable gives you the opportunity to get to know the Spanish way of life. There are just a very few places left on Fuerteventura to experience authentic Canarian lifestyle.
The Casa Alberto offers single apartements,double apartments and apartments for three persons. On request the Casa Alberto also rented accommodations for up to 4 persons. At the reception you can hire a safe deposit box. The reception offers a regular cleaning of the room. For a fee, one could leave his private laundry wash. Towels and bed linen are provided. Adapters are not needed. The accommodation is as all of the accommodations of the OTRO MODO Surfschool a non smokers accomodation.

Thanks to its owner Don Alberto the Casa Alberto has an individual architecture, where every apartment is a bit different to the other. Each apartment has a separate bath room (with shower and toilet), Sat-TV, a double bed, a small kitchen and a balcony with sea view. On the large communal roof terrace you can sunbathe during the day and meet the other surfers in the afternoon and evening to relax together and all this with an picturesque view of the Atlantic Ocean.The Spanish restaurant "El Callao" is right at the little beach promenade of Morro Jable and provides the meals (half-board) for our guests in Morro Jable. The friendly staff serves authentical Spanish food, e.g. tortillas, fresh tomato salad, etc. Live music and motto parties make the "El Callao" the ideal place to meer your fellow surfers after the surf course or guiding spend the evening together and gently let it fade away. Our office is just 30m away from the Casa Alberto. We offer beach cruisers, bikes, skateboards and surfboards for rent. Take the bike to discover the beach promenade leading from Morro Jable to Jandia. It takes only 10 minutes and you are at one of the best waves of Fuerteventura - the Cruz Roja. The wave break at Jandia´s sandy beach and its long right handers and short and steep left handers offer ideal conditions for surfing newbies, intermediate and advanced surfers.

The Hostel
Also the Hostel is located only 200 meters from the sea. You find the hostel in the same street as our surf school office is located. The Hostel is clean, but also very basic accommodation for all those, who, in the holiday does not have a value in luxuries. The rooms of the Hostel have double bed or two single beds, bathroom with shower and toilet and a wardrobe. We offer rooms for single travelers and double rooms. The rooms have a regularly cleaning service   
The place is very original and you can still experience the real Spain. Small tapas bars and fish restaurants, a lovely promenade, the beach and the proximity to the well-known Surf Spot Cruz Roja, make this place special for surf junkies and its accompaniments. In the evening you can sit in one of the many beach bars to drink a wine or juice and let it flow away. Many small shops in the fully pedestrianised place invite you to look around. The hostel is located in the same street as the surfschool office  and is only a few meters from the apartment house Casa Alberto away. The sea, and the restaurant "El Callao", in which the halfboard is offered, can be reached on foot in 3 minutes. Each room has a bed, a wardrobe and a bathroom with shower and toilet. The accommodation is very simple, it does not have common rooms and there are no balconies. Of course the reception offers a regular cleaning of the room. Towels and bed linen are provided. Plug adapters are not needed. The accommodation is as all of the accommodations of the OTRO MODO Surfschool a non smokers accomodation.     .


The bungalows in Costa Calma our surf camp right by the sea


Costa Calma is a modern holiday resort ranging from the lonesome cliffs until the endless dunes in the South. The slightly ascending area guarantees an unspoilt view of the Atlantic ocean from every corner. This place offers everything a tourist heart desires: white sandy beaches that invite for a walk, supermarkets, cosy restaurants, bars and a discotheque.  Our bungalows are located onyl 30m away from the beach. The complex has two swimming pools and cultivated green spaces. Each bungalow features bed room, Sat-TV, kitchen, bath room (with shower and toilet), terrace and a roof terrace with sea view. Nearby you will find a reasonable supermarket and also some restaurants and bars.
The bungalows are maximum for 3 persons and can be rented side-by-side. Baby-beds will be provided free. Children up to 3 years old pay nothing. At the reception desk a safe deposit box and bath towels can be rented. Towels and bed linen are provided. Adapters are not needed. The accommodation is as all of the accommodations of the OTRO MODO Surfschool a non-smokers accommodation.

 


Catering

Morro Jable
For the accommodations in Morro Jable you can book optionally half-board.
A breakfast costs 4,- euro, a dinner 7,- euro per Person/day.
The half board will be held in the cozy Restaurant/tapas bar "El Callao" instead.
From the small terrace you have sea view.
Different theme nights and live music provide a cozy get-together after the surfing course.
The half board can also be booked on site.
Also daily basis, or the possibility to book on-site, is given.
The meals are typically Spanish and international.
For Vegetarians or people with food intolerances we recommend the booking on-site.
After consultation with the team of the "El Callao" are of course also guests with special needs welcome.
All self-catering people find a large supermarket, as well as many small grocery stores.
You'll also find a variety of restaurants with a varied cuisine.
For those who like to try different dishes, a self-catering is also ideally.

Costa Calma
The bungalows in Costa Calma are self-catering.
A large supermarket in the immediate vicinity, the fully equipped kitchens of the bungalows and the close to some good restaurants facilitate this type of food.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES



Surfcourse details

We offer surf courses for all levels of ability. Everyone, from the bloody beginners up to the experienced surfers will get their own personalised training schedule. We also provide the necessary equipment, individual video analysis, transfer to the best spots, interesting theory lessons and of course our experienced and licensed surf instructors will spend loads of time in the water in order to improve your skills.

The surf course starts every day from Monday to Saturday, between 9 and 14 o'clock depending on the tides. The surf course goes 5 hours per day (including transfers to the beach). In the morning we pick up our guests at their accommodation. Afterwards we drive to our office to prepare the surf material (wet suits and surf boards) for the day. Every day we drive to the beach/surfspot with best wind and wave conditions for the surf level of our surf students. By the way you get to know more about Fuerteventura it's unique landscape and it's people. At the beach we explain the currents, waves and important safety things to our surf students first. Than we do theoretical explanations and exercises which contain the learning task of the day. After a gentle warm up, everybody is off to the water. Our surf instructors are in the water with our students and pointing out waves, helping them catching waves, pushing them into the waves and giving them feedback how to improve their surfing technique. Later they film the surf students from shore for our video coaching.  After the lessons we drive everybody back to their accommodation.

All surf instructors are certified from the British Surfing Association and are beach Lifeguards certified from the Surf Life Saving Association. There are not more than 6 students per surf instructor.

SURF GUIDING


The surf guiding starts every day from Monday to Saturday, between 9 and 14 o'clock depending on the swell and tide conditions.  The surf guiding goes for 5 to 8 hours per day (including transfers) depending on the surf spot we go to and the swell and tide conditions.    In the morning we meet at our office to prepare the surf material (wetsuits and surfboards) for the day. Here we check the swell and wind forecast for the day. Every day we drive to the beach/surf spot with best wind and wave conditions for the surf level of our surf students.   By the way our guests get to know more about Fuerteventura it's unique landscape and it's people.

At the beach/surf spot we explain the currents, the waves, and other important safety things to our surf students first. Also we point out how to enter the water best, where is the peak of the wave. Than we do theoretical explanations and exercises which contain the learning task of the day.    Our surf guide Rick has a license especially for teaching intermediate and advanced surfers. As we have always small groups, Rick will design the learning task individually according to your surfing level and to what you want to learn next in surfing (for example a cut back).    After a gentle warm up, everybody is off to the water.  Our surf instructors will be in the line up with our surf students and help them catching waves by pointing out incoming sets, showing them the peak of the wave and give them feedback how to improve their surf technique. Later they will film the students for our video coaching.   All surf instructors are certified from the British Surfing Association and are beach lifeguards certified from the Surf Life Saving Association. For our surf guiding we have surf instructors with a license especially for advanced surfers.

In the advanced surf course and surf guiding will be not more than 5 to 6 students per surf instructor.

 For the surf guiding you should be able to ride an unbroken waves. Don't worry you don't need to be professional in it. We will choose the surf spot according to your surfing level.    You can use the surf material after the surf lessons/guiding. We have several short boards from Surftech, for example, 6'1" Santa Cruz, 6'2" Webber or 6'4" Byrne. We have also some Fish and Malibu surf boards to rent over here.  

NEW
: For our intermediate and advanced surfers we also offer a radio helmet coaching for 20,- euro extra per day.  The radio helmet will be like a life video coaching, were a surf instructor can coach you while you are actually up and riding. A great way to improve your surfing skills in a short time!

Surf materials

Softboard for beginners guarantee a high degree of safety. The softboards are offered in various sizes. For advanced Surfer is a pallet NSP boards available, from 6 '4 up to 10 '6. Long boards (9 ' 2" and 10 ' 6 " ), Malibus (8 ' 2 ", 7 ' 10" and 7 ' 6 " ), Minimalibus (7 ' 2 " ), Fishboards (6 ' 4 ") and Shortboards (6 ' 6 ") of the NSP and shortboards for experts of Surftec/Tuflite in 6 ' 4" (Byrne), 6 ' 2" (Webber), 6 ' 1" (Santa Cruz)

During the surf course/ surf guiding is the distribution of the surfboards the entire day (also in the afternoon after the course/ guiding) free of charge.
On the days after the course/ guiding the rental of the NSP boards is 15,- euro per day and of surftec boards 20,- euro per day.

NEW: For our intermediate and advanced surfers we also offer a radio helmet coaching for 20,- euro extra per day.  The radio helmet will be like a life video coaching, were a surf instructor can coach you while you are actually up and riding. A great way to improve your surfing skills in a short time!

Also possible is the distribution of the Gopro camera. A Go Pro camera costs per day 20,- euro and can be either attached to the own board, or on one of the surfschool boards with Go Pro plug in.

For children there are small softboards, which they can comfortably carry and surf. Furthermore, children get always wetsuits with long arms and leg.

All wetsuits and lycras are from the high-quality Australian surflabel Billabong


Other activities

Guests, who are accomodated in Morro Jable find a few nightly activities offered, such as extra surf theory lessons- beach barbeque – table soccer - or film evening.
No shuttle can be offered for the guests in Costa Calma.
For a surcharge on Sundays can be booked a trip to different interesting places of the island.

All guests will be picked up on Thursdays from the surrounding villages to the common surfschool dinner. The dinner is optional and is used for communication with each other. At the dinner are the surf instructor/inside present, as well as all the guests, who would like to want to be. The dinner is not included in the tour price. The price depends on the individual consumption. It is also possible to have only a drink or an appetizer.

Yoga
For a fee of 17,- euro per unit, you can book Yoga with an experienced yoga teacher in the Morro Jable.
The Yoga takes place either in a room or on the beach instead.

Spanish
We have a Spanish teacher.
She is therefore not directly to the surfschool.
One hour (60 min) costs 17,- euro per person.
If guests want to take Spanish lessons, we reserve the firts one with the teacher.
The teacher plan the rest of the lessons according to your surf lessons, (when and how many).
A conversation course, in simple and concerted steps you will learn to communicate in Spanish. Individual wishes can be taken into account.

On the island of Fuerteventura you find a wide choice of possibilities for alternative water sports. Guests can make a boat trip, diving, sailing, kite surfing or windsurfing. All the possibilities can obtain in the office of the surfschool and be organized. Anyone who would like kitesurfing, this can result in our partner kitesurfschool Chris Dick of the OTRO MODO surfschool in Costa Calma.
The team will be happy to help coordinate the dates.

The OTRO MODO surfschool regularly organizes Beach cleanings to the various beaches of the island. The team also is committed to the resettlement of the sea turtle in the Canary Islands. Since for you need a good expertise and scientific knowledge presupposes, the OTRO MODO Surfschool supports a project at the port of Morro Jable with donations.

Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots

In the south of Fuerteventura there are numerous spots for all kind of surfing level.
From demanding reef waves to the gentle beachbreak is everything.
Close to the accommodations in Morro Jable, you can find Cruz Roja the well-known surf spot, with good conditions that produces beautiful waves.
If you have a car, you're fast at the reefs in the south and to the long sandy beach of Cofete.

Costa Calma is located close to the westcoast.
You can reach the spots over here in about 20 minutes by car.
The south of the island is extremely diverse and offers good conditions for year-round surfing for each surflevel.

 


Seasonal conditions

On the island of Fuerteventura is a year round surfing.
Due to its position in the Atlantic Ocean, the island offers from January to December optimal conditions for beginners and advanced surfers. The winter time, is also for the experts. In addition to the many soft beach breaks run between September and March, the reefs of the island. The south of Fuerteventura bribes above all through its multiplicity and its large number at surfspots, that runs with the most different conditions. The spots often are not so overcrowded and rarely don’t occur that one sits quite alone in a perfect Lineup and can wait for your private waves of the day. The south of the island moreover usually is some degrees more warmly, as the north of Fuerteventura. In the winter, also the advanced surfers get their money's worth. In the summer the prevailing northeast brought Passat, contrary to the mistaken belief it was inhospitable conditions, brings often almost perfect waves to the east coast of the island.



Crowd factor and local people

Fuerteventura has, as any place on the world where you can surf, local surfing scenery dominates the street atmosphere. One is to the rules in the water, is polite and respectful of the curbside of the one whom started the shaft first, you will have little problems. Surf schools belong to the daily image of the inhabitants and these will also be tolerated in most places. From Germany The best way to get to the plane of the Fuerteventura.

EU citizens are traveling with their valid identity card.

Wir waren im Tao Appartement in Morro Jable untergebracht. Das Appartement war groß (Schlafzimmer, Bad und Wohn- und Essbereich mit gemütlicher Sofa-Ecke). Die Surfschule war nur wenige Gehminuten vom Tao Appartement entfernt. Auch ein Supermarkt war in unmittelbarer Nähe.

Surfing:

Die Surfschule war sehr nett und die Surflehrer kompetent. In meiner Gruppe waren insgesamt 6 Surfschüler. Die Surflehrer haben sich viel Mühe gegeben. Wir waren eine lustige Gruppe und es hat sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Das war definitiv nicht mein letzter Surftrip :-) Ich kann die Surfschule sehr weiterempfehlen.

Other (e.g. Surroundings, Nightlife, etc.):

In Morro Jable ist alles zu Fuß zu erreichen. Sowohl die Strandpromenade als auch Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind in unmittelbarer Nähe zu erreichen. An der Strandpromenade kann man sehr schön spazieren gehen und am Meer die Seele baumeln lassen. Auch bei den Restaurants hat man eine große Auswahl an europäischen, italienischen, mexikanisch und amerikanischen Essen.
