The Surf House As Furnas is located in the northern Spanish region of Galicia, in the small village of Xuño, on the western Atlantic coast. The place Xuño, with its nearly 1,000 inhabitants, is located midway between the Atlantic and the mountain range of Barbanza, just a 5 minutes walk to the two beaches As Furnas and Rio Sieira. The Surf House is located in the hills at the foot of the mountain A Curota, which offers a variety of routes for both cycling and hiking. The view from the top is unique, ranging from the islands of Cies up to Finisterre, also known as the end of the world.
Galicia is undoubtedly the place with the highest probability of waves in Mainland Europe.
The remaining, untouched by mass tourism region in the immediate vicinity of the Surf House, together with its miles of sandy beaches and coves, offers ideal conditions for surfing.Whether beginner or advanced, for each level and for almost every forecast you can find the appropriate conditions. Overcrowded lineups do not exist here!

CAMP CHARACTER

The Surfhouse As Furnas is the ideal alternative to the typical party surfcamps. Our guests have to be at least 18 years old. Most of them are between 25 and 40, coming from all over the world; although mayority is from Germany or Switzerland. The surfhouse is a small camp with a maximum of 12 people which offers more a family-like atmospere. It is the perfect place to relax, focus on surfing and having a few beers at night with some friends.
Pets and kids are not permitted.

The owner of the surfhouse is a woman coming actually from Austria, Tyrol, but since 12 years now living in Spain. She opened the Surfhouse in 2012 together with her husband, a local surfboard shaper. Stinky Tofu Surfboards.

It offers five rooms with a double bed and one room with two single beds, each room with a private bathroom. On the ground floor there is an exclusively furnished community kitchen, a laundry room, a comfortable dining room, and a cozy living room with tv and dvd, having a direct access to one of the two spacious sun terraces.
The entire house has wireless Internet access, as well as DVDs, books, games and detailed tourist information about the various activities and excursions in the area.
The extensive garden with lots of green space, a swimming pool and its own little forest has plenty of space to practice yoga, play a football game or just relax in one of the hammocks.

CATERING

An extensive breakfast buffet is included. For lunch and dinner you can always use the community kitchen (two big fridges, dishes, pans, pots,..etc.) or we can cook for you. Dinner is a two dishes menu and dessert. The products are all fresh and from the region. Price: 14€/dinner.
We also offer special meals for vegetarians or persons who are allergic to something; f.e.: gluten free.

SURF COURSE DETAILS

---

The surf courses are exclusively in small groups (max. 7 people). This allows us to respond individually to our participants and thus, a faster learning in a friendly atmosphere is guaranteed. The provided surfing equipment is in perfect condition and comply with the latest safety standards.

All beaches are about a one to 15 minute drive from each other. Some of the best spots are: Vilar, Ladeira, Corrubedo, Las Furnas and Rio Sieira.
You are going from the Surf House together with our surf instructors to a nearby beach where you are going to have a total of 4 hours of class a day, divided into 2 units.
Prices of the courses include transportation, equipment and class. The surf lessons are only for people, who stay in the house.

SURF MATERIALS

The provided surfing equipment is in perfect condition and comply with the latest safety standards. We have as well softboards as fiberglass surfboards for our advanced surfers. Who is doing a surf course can also have the materia for free outside the course; others can borrow it of course.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Yoga
The yoga classes are always designed to complement surf lessons. In good weather, the classes are given either in the garden at the Surf House or at the beach of As Furnas, while in bad weather they take place in the cultural centre of Xuño. The classes are outdoor on our beautiful yoga platform in the middle of our own little forest.
We only work with experienced and qualified yoga teachers who know exactly what constitutes the right combination of stretching, breathing and concentration, and relaxation.

Spanish language course
The course should be fun in the first place. Within a week you’ll not become an expert neither you shall be able to write poetry in Spanish. But the language course should serve you as some basis on which you can build later. The aim is to implement what you have learned and apply it in everyday situations as well.
In our language course, all aspects of a general language training are taken into account, however, the communicative aspect stands in the foreground.
In addition to the ideal conditions for surfing, the area around the Surf House also offers a wide range of activities and excursions.

Whether you choose beach volleyball, fishing, snorkeling, rock climbing, horse riding, scuba diving or sailing with a partner in the area, you’ll definitely find something to suit your taste.
But if sport alone is not enough for you, there is a number of interesting destinations, ranging from the impressive Celtic settlement in the neighbourhood of Castro de Baroña, the Galician capital Santiago de Compostela, to fishing villages and their charming ports such as Rianxo and Pobra do Caramiñal.

SURF CONDITIONS

Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots
All beaches are about a one to 15 minute drive from each other. They are all beach breaks. The two homespots, As Furans and Rio Siera, are looking to west and picking up the most swell. When they are too big other spots; further south are good.

Seasonal conditions
Galicia is undoubtedly the place with the highest probability of waves in Mainland Europe. The best months for beginners are June , July and August.  For intermediate and advanced surfers waves are good from April to mid of June and from September to October.
The water temperature during the summer months amounts to about 20 degrees, which usually persists until late October. We recommend a 3/2mm wetsuit during the summer months, and a 4/3mm wetsuit for the rest of the year.
The weather in summer is very good, with temperatures about 30 degress during the day and cooling down at night. In spring and autumn temperatures are around 25 degrees.

Crowd factor and local people
The surfspots in the area of the Surfhouse are completly uncrowded and locals are very friendly.

Characterization of surroundings/region
The Surf House As Furnas is located in the northern Spanish region of Galicia, in the small village of Xuño, on the western Atlantic coast.
The Atlantic climate and fertile soil create a green Spain, with lush meadows and forests, and the coastline is known for its miles of sandy beaches and secluded coves.
The good Galician cousine is one of its tourist pillars. The excellent quality and variety of local products serve as a basis for diverse delicacies and dishes. The people are friendly and the area around the Surf House is completely untouched by mass tourism.

Activities and facilities
For taking a walk along the sea, the 4 kilometers long wooden walkway starting in Xuño offers a perfect opportunity. It runs from the beaches of Rio Sieira and As Furnas up to two lagoons, which are separated by a narrow belt of dunes.
In addition to the ideal conditions for surfing, the area around the Surf House also offers a wide range of activities and excursions.

JOURNEY

 Ways to get to the camp
Possible destinations are Santiago de Compostela and O Porto (Portugal).
From the airport in Santiago you can take a shuttle bus to the bus station every 30 minutes. From there you can go to Noia by public transport. There we come to pick you up. The costs for this are €30 and are shared by the riders (max 4 persons).

An airport transfer from Santiago directly to the Surfhouse is possible by arrangement. The cost is 80€ per tour. They are shared by the riders (max 4 persons).
From the airport in O Porto, there are buses to Santiago - bus station once a week during the week and once a day buses to the Santiago Bus Terminal.
An interesting alternative to public transport is the rental car. At www.rentalcars.com there are already rental cars for less than 100 € a week.
A good tip is to book early. It is worth it!

Important details
The Surfhouse is located in Galicia; in North Spain and belongs to the European Union. The money currency is Euro.
When you go by public transport you need about three hours to come to the Surfhouse; with the shuttle service it is one hour.
