ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

Location and surf conditions:

No matter if you are a complete novice or have already surfed a few waves – in our camp you will get the type of surfing lessons that suit you perfectly. What makes it even better: With more than ten surf spots within a radius of 20 kilometers around our house we can guarantee that we always find the right wave for you.

Camp character

The surroundings offer endless possibilities: When you are not in the water you can make use of one of our other sports activities or you can just make yourself comfortable in our house: Barbecues in the big garden, chilling in the cozy living room, relaxing in the winter garden or watching movies in our home cinema. For all those who like it wild: In spite of the peaceful setting the next party isn't hard to find. The port city of Ferrol is only ten kilometers away and can easily be reached by car. Bars, restaurants, shops – here you will find everything you are looking for.

Camp operator

Tom: Tom started surfing in South Africa in 2005. After spending a semester in Australia it became obvious that life as a teacher in Switzerland was out of the question. He completed the Surf Instructor Course and worked in surfschools in France, Portugal and Indonesia. The opportunity of combining his passions for surfing and teaching has fascinated him ever since. To him there is no better feeling than hearing the screams of joy coming from students surfing the first waves of their lives.

Bernd: Bernd started surfing eight years ago and has since adjusted his lifestyle to the search for the best waves. Out of the last six years he spent three traveling the world. His trips have led him to Australia, Central and South America, France, Portugal, Morocco, Indonesia - and to Spain, of course. In addition to a university degree in Physical Education / Sports he possesses the ISA Surf Instructor and Lifesaver licenses.
Ines: Ines surfed her first waves in Panama in 2010. During a campervan trip through France, Spain and Portugal she discovered that Europe offers great waves for improving one's surfing skills, too. Having gained the confidence to discover the wide world of surfing she started searching for waves in Morocco and her beloved Asia. As you can see, she knows a thing or two about surfing and will surely be able to provide heaps of tips and tricks for novice surfers.

SURF COURSE DETAILS

To make sure that your surfing skills improve as fast as possible you will have the best instructors at your side: Tom and Bernd are both ISA certified and have surfed as well as taught in many countries and at countless surf spots all around the world. Having undertaken numerous trips along the Spanish coast they know the area like the back of their hand. They will make sure to select the perfect beach with the best waves for you every day. Five-day (20h), three-day (12h) and one-day (4h) surfing courses are available. Every course includes practical instruction, theory and video analysis. As we consider your progress our primary objective there is a maximum number of six students per instructor.

What would a surf school be without the proper equipment? That is why we have gone the extra mile to provide you with the best equipment possible. Brand new soft- and hardboards as well as warm 4/3 wetsuits are available to our guests. To make sure that everyone finds his and her perfect fit we provide boards and wetsuits in all shapes and sizes. (Boards from 6'6'' to 8'6'' and wetsuits from XS to XL).

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Besides surfing we have heaps of other activities on offer. All activities are organized by our team or by qualified partners.

Camp Activities You can play badminton and beachball in the camp's huge garden. A ping-pong table is also available to our guests. Moreover, you can train your balance skills for surfing on a slack-line, an indo board or on one of our longboards. A boule set, frisbee discs and footballs round out the equipment. On the beach you can set up a beach volleyball net and battle it out with your friends. These activities are free of charge.

Hiking Every year thousands of people make the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela via the Way of St.James. The last section of the hike, the one through Galicia, is considered the most interesting and scenic part of the whole pilgrimage. The unique natural beauty as well as the open minded people of Galicia make the area perfect for hiking and exploring. If you want to get a glimpse into the world of pilgrims you can set off towards impressive capes and beaches from our house. Of course we provide detailed hiking maps for our guest free of charge.
Biking Galicia's stunning coastline is a great area to be discovered by mountain bike. With our modern and well serviced bikes and our detailed maps you are optimally equipped. This way you can explore the camp's surroundings under your own steam and discover beautiful capes, impressive lighthouses and lonely beaches – all those great places that cannot be reached by car. Rental price for mountain bike: 9€ per day
Tennis Six tennis courts lie 9 km from the camp and can be reached in ten minutes by car. Rent for the courts is only 5€ per hour. Rackets and balls can be rented in camp.

Fishing With our fishing rods you can try to catch some fish at our house beach. If you make a good catch you can prepare it together with us and enjoy it during a communal barbecue dinner.

Snorkeling In calm seas Galicia's underwater world becomes visible. With a bit of luck you can see various types of fish, octopus and even dolphins.

Paragliding When the winds are right our house beach and the adjoining hills offer great conditions for paragliding. Our partner Diego from Parapentelandia is an experienced paraglider and possesses the instructor's license. In English he will introduce you step by step into the world of paragliding.

Wakeboarding The rias offer great wave protection and therefore perfect conditions for wakeboarding. Our partners provide a specially crafted boat that creates the perfect wake for jumps – lots of fun is guaranteed.

Sailing The important ports of Ferrol, La Coruna and Vigo bear witness of Galicia's history as a nation of seafarers. In contrast to the rough seas of the Costa da Morte the natural fjord-like rias provide protected conditions for relaxed sailing trips along stunning coastline.

Golf Galicia's naturally green countryside makes a golfer's heart jump for joy. The 9-hole golf course Campomar, 10km from the camp and the 18-hole course Club de Golf Miño, 25km from the camp invite licensed golfers to their greens and fairways.

Ways to get to the camp

Getting there and away Arrival and departure days in the camp are Saturday and Sunday because surfing courses start Monday. However, it is also possible to arrive on other days and join running courses so that you can benefit from the cheapest flight deals.
By plane The closest airports in Galicia are Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) and La Coruña (LCG) RyanAir provides cheap direct flights to Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) from Frankfurt-Hahn and Milan. EasyJet flies to Santiago from Basel and Geneva Another smart alternative to get to WaveRocker is taking a cheap flight to Porto or Santander, organizing a rental car at the airport for little money and driving along the beautiful coastline. Buses are another option to get from the airports to the camp. Especially the flights from Frankfurt Hahn (HHN) to Santander (SDR) are very cheap. By Bus
From Santiago de Compostela Airport you get to Santiago de Compostela bus station by taking the Freire shuttle bus (3 €; 20min) that leaves every half hour. From the Santiago bus station Monbus buses (9 €; 1h 20min) leave every two hours to Ferrol bus station. In Ferrol we pick you up free of charge.
