SURROUNDINGS / REGION

Characterization of surroundings/region

Costa Rican beaches are a super destination for surfing. It is one of those rare countries in Central America that has two coastlines to surf, the Caribbean and the Pacific, only separated by a dominating mountain backbone. Costa Rica has a tropical climate with two seasons and enjoys year-round boardshort water temperatures at all beaches. The wet season lasts from May to October with sunny mornings and rain during the night, the dry season from November to April with sun all day long.

In one of the top but mostly untouched regions & beaches, ZOPILOTE SURFERS TOUR THEIR WAVES! How about you?

Besides surfing and exploring Costa Rica´s beaches you will find many other adventures like white-water rafting, bungee jumping and jungle canopy tours.  Costa Rica is packed with national parks that protect the region´s volcanoes, it is famous for great rain forests  and their animal kingdom but it´s the diamond-dust beaches of Costa Rica and the marine life that attract us surfers to this beautiful country. Costa Rica is a very friendly country with well-mannered people who call themselves `Ticos` and `Ticas`.

JOURNEY

Ways to get to the camp

Arriving in San Jose at the international airport? Take a taxi to the San Carlos (Atlantic) Bus Station in downtown San Jose where direct buses (Transporte Cobano) leave to Mal Pais/Santa Teresa at 6:00 am and 2:00 pm every day (costs about $16 US$). Leave the bus in Cobano and take a taxi to Manzanillo (20US$). The entire trip will take around 6 hours.

If you have any more questions related to your travel SIMPLY CONTACT US!

Arriving in San Jose late afternoon or at night, you might want to stay in one of the many backpackers or hotels and leave the next morning. We recommend staying at Los Volcanes en Alujela near the airport. Friendly and affordable, they offer a free shuttle to the airport. Call (506) 2441 0525.

Another convenient & faster but more expensive option is to take a local flight from San Jose to Tambor (25 min.). From there you have to take a taxi to our surf camp (1h, 50US$). Check Sansa or Nature Air for more details! When booking with Sansa make sure to tell them you are a Zopilote guest to get a better rate!

This exciting journey to our surfcamp is the beginning of an unforgettable surf adventure – ‘BUEN VIAJE’.
