ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

Alankuda Beach is a 2 kilometre stretch of beach recently developed in the Kalpitiya peninsula off the north western coast of Sri Lanka. Alankuda Beach is a starting point for off-shore Whale and Dolphin watching at Alankuda and offers a range of water sports: sailing, standup paddleboard, kayaking, water skiing, kitesurfing, scuba diving and snorkelling.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING

Accommodation at Bar Reef Resort, Alankuda features Three kinds of settings; Seven garden cabanas, Seven Beach Cabanas and Two villas. Each of these is set within their own private enclosures amidst beautiful natural surroundings, individually landscaped for each property, with an open-air bathroom and toilet to make you one with nature. The gentle rustling of the palm fronds amid soft golden rays together with the feel of the ocean sand beneath your feet will awaken your mind to a feeling of blissful relaxation, that can only be found at Bar Reef Resort.

There are several water sports centers and kitesurfing schools in Kalpitiya that have kitesurfing equipment available for purchase or rental. Most schools will include rental of equipment in the course price if you’re interested in lessons. If you do not need lessons, you will also be able to rent out equipment; rental of full equipment costs approximately 60 € for one day.

There are several kitesurfing spots in Alankuda-Kalpitiya for beginners and advanced kiters. Those that are interested in flat water, freestyle and freeride and need lessons will enjoy Kalpitiya Lagoon, which is approximately 20 km away from Bar Reef Resort, and Kappaladi Lagoon, which is approximately 7 km away from the Resort. Expert kiters can head on to the Indian Ocean, which presents an amazing 500 m long wave that unrolls during May – October (South West monsoon) that is perfect for exciting wave riding sessions.

Characterization of surroundings/region

Alankuda lies roughly 100 kilometres north of the International Airport, on the coast of the northern-western peninsula of Sri Lanka. Alankuda is scenically located between the Indian Ocean and the vast Puttalam Lagoon. Alankuda is a little paradise on its own.

The biodiversity of mangroves, marshes, saltpans, golden beaches, sand dunes, wild dense jungles and scenic beauty combined with tropical weather conditions makes Alankuda a fine destination for rest, relaxation and a prime location for adventure and nature tourism alike. Until recently Alankuda was considered a rural backwater with hardly any tourists or local visitors. Nature lovers and adventure sport enthusiasts have since discovered the hidden beauty of Alankuda. Alankuda has steadily gained popularity as a prime Tourism destination in Asia. The Dutch fort is today occupied by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Dutch church to remains well preserved through the decades gone by.
