ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS

---

Blind Dog Inn is located in a quiet gang 10 minutes walk away from the white sand beach and the nearest surf spot. It's around 15 minutes walk away from the town centre.
Sanur and the whole east coast of Bali has great surf from September till April for all levels. The surf lessons are held in Sanur, on a spot called Baby Reef. It's a good spot also for beginners since it's flat reef and the waves are small & mellow. The wave is really long and slow left hander wave so you can improve your surfing really fast. For intermediate surfers there are also other spots with bigger and faster wave nearby, all reef breaks.

CAMP CHARACTER

---

The camp is very laid-back and with lot of free time. Only schedule is in the morning: breakfast and surf lesson. The rest of the day you can relax, go around and get to know your surfer fellows. The camp is +18, but kids over 13 can come with their parent. The average age of the guests is around 23. The main language used at the camp is English.
There are dogs at the camp, but unfortunately guests cannot bring their own pets.

CAMP OPERATOR

The surf camp used to be just a big villa for private renting for many years. To get more fun vibes, since September 2018 the villa changed to a hostel and now recenty changed also to a surf camp. The owner of the camp is a local man from Sanur, but he rarely comes to the camp. The owners nephew lives behind the camp with his family and mostly all the guests think he is the owner since he is always hanging around. The camp manager and most of the staff is local people from Sanur, and there is also some European surfers helping around at the camp.

The accommodation is a villa style hostel 15 minutes walk away from the beach. There is 8 bed dorm, 4 bed dorms, private room for 1 person and private couple room to choose from. All the rooms come with AC, Wi-Fi, en-suite bathroom and lockers. Bed linen is included and towel is provided with Rp.100k deposit.
At the surf camp theres also a large outdoor pool, lounge area to chill after surf and a bar with affordable meals. Rooms are non-smoking.

The surf camp package includes breakfasts. At the camp there's a bar with small food menu and healthy juices. The price level is low. Vegetarian food available at the camp. Nearby the camp there is also many cafes and restaurant with variable price level (also restaurants with vegetarian and vegan options).

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

SURF COURSE DETAILS

---

The lessons are held by our partner Rip Curl School of Surf, which is located 10 minutes away from the accommodation. The duration of a lesson is 2 hours and there will be 1 lesson every morning during your surf camp. The time of the lesson depends of the tides and we will always inform you latest one day before that what time the lesson will be next day. 
The instructor-student ratio is 1:5. There is normally 1 instructor and 1 assistant instructor for 5 students. The course language is English. 

You will choose the package according to your surf level and you will get the best results on your surfing. The levels are 1. Totally beginner, 1. Advanced beginner, 3. Intermediate.
What you will learn:

Level 1: Basic surfing technique, Paddling, Popping-up, Wave riding stance, Turning your board on the wave, Ocean knowledge & safety 

Level 2: Paddling out, Reading the waves, Take-off positioning, Starting to learn some maneuvers like bottom turn and cutbacks

Level 3: Smoothly linking your maneuvers, Riding bigger and faster waves, Correct and easy way of duck diving if riding shortboard, Surfing etiquette

SURF MATERIALS

During the lesson all surf equipment and material is included. Rashgurads, booties, helmets, sunscreen, drinking water and the boat ride to the spot is provided free of charge during the lesson. So you only need to bring yourself. For beginner surfers there is soft top longboards and for intermediate surfers there is fiber glass longboards and mini mals. It's also possible to change the board during the 5 days course depending how fast you improve.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

For the guests there is 2 SUP boards, kayak and soft top surfboards to use after the lessons free of charge (depending of availability).
Fiber glass surfboard rental outside of lesson is Rp.150k max 2 hours. The boat taxi outside of surf lessons is Rp. 50k for the nearby surf spot and Rp.100k for the further surf spot.

To all the surf spots we go by boat (around 5-10 minute boat drive).

Seasonal conditions

From September to April there is great surf in Sanur for all levels. During the wet season (around November- March), the east coast of Bali is only place surfable and Sanur is one of the best places to be. The water and air temperature is very warm all year around so you never need a wetsuit.

Crowd factor and local people

In the wet season the whole east coast of Bali can get bit crowded but since you are all the time with the local instructors, they will make sure you get plenty of waves. Anyways normally the locals in the water are friendly and sharing the waves.

Characterization of surroundings/region

Sanur is more laid-back than other neighboring vacation destinations. In addition to  surfing, people come here to enjoy the blue skies, 4 km of white sand beaches, calm lagoon to swim and to do other water sport activities. Typical thing in Sanur is to ride your bike along the beach walk, listen to live music and enjoy the chill restaurants and bars.

In Sanur you can find lots of small local boutiques selling sarongs, art and handicraft. There is pharmacies and smaller clinic in town. The international hospital is around 15 minute car drive away. Sanur is a 20 minute taxi ride from the Ngurah Rai International Airport.
   
Activities and facilities

The Blind Dog Inn guests get 15% discount on all the water sport activities at Rip Curl School of Surf and we can arrange them for you from the camp. There is for example kite surfing, wind surfing, wake boarding, diving and the latest addition: Foiling.

Ways to get to the camp

Sanur is a 20 minute taxi ride from the Ngurah Rai International Airport. Drivers may ask if you want to take the toll road, which costs an extra Rp 11,000, and can save some time in peak hour. There are also plenty of metered taxis all over the island who will be keen to take you to Sanur. We do offer an airport pick up for Rp. 200,000 per vehicle total price. Max 4 person per car. (Rp. 250,000 after 10pm)

Important details

The public transportation in Bali is very bad, so everybody uses taxis, users etc. You can download an app "GO JEK" and from there you can order cars and motorbike taxis with cheap price. Citizens of variable countries can enter Indonesia free of charge if traveling less than 30 days.
