On the Hotel Garden’s, apart from chilling on the swimming pool or at the cushions you can also enjoy a refreshing Cocktail while watching the fisherman boats arriving at the harbor. You can  use the Hotel SPA for massage, sauna or some gym activity. Before the nightfall, you can get down to the beach to either quietly watch the sunset, or to enjoy the region shellfish together with a good Portuguese wine at the harbor restaurant. If you are more into action you can’t miss the late afternoon party’s, going on at the “Chiringuito Mareta” beach bar, just 20 minutes walking distance from the Hotel. Now, don’t be late for the dinner with the rest of the crew and keep some energy for a drink or dancing at the local bars. But take care because on the next morning a full day of surfing will be waiting for you!

The Team

Marta Mealha
Marta was born and raised in the Algarve and opened with her brother João in 2002 the surfschool. She still has a great passion for teaching.    

João Mealha
João has been surfing in competitions since 1999 and still loves it. When he is not working he is travelling and surfing waves around the world!    

Marta Cayatte
Marta is running Freeride headquarters in Sagres. She’s the one you go to for everything! She will help you with all your questions regarding the Surf School and more!    

Hugo  Figueiredo
Hugo has a great passion for surfing, as a father of 2 kids he knows very well how to teach young and old.    

Tatiana
Tatiana was born and raised in Sagres and knows the area very well and is a great teacher.    

Tom Scott
Tom is from England and loves travelling and surfing, he has surfed in many spots around the world and will be running the beach hut this summer.    

San Pindsle
San is from Norway and has lived in Australia, he has a great passion for the outdoors and the beach!    

Chrissy
Is also from Norway and has been surfing for more then  15 years , she has lived in Australia so she knows the surfing and how to teach it..

SURF COURSE DETAILS

At Freeride we believe that a good surf school is the easiest and fastest way to learn and/or improve your surfing. with an intensive surf course you’ll have a bigger chance to improve in a shorter period of time. We recommend a 5 day intensive surf course (including 3 hours of tuition per day and all the surf gear) to start with and after you always have the possibility of extend it for more days.

The Surf Lessons normally take place from 10h00 in the  morning till 15h00 in the afternoon.
Notice that all times can be changed, due to tides or meteorological conditions.

Our Group Surf Lessons/Courses

    Theoretical briefing/explanations, rules, safety, warm-up
     3 hours of surf lessons (sometimes the lessons are given directly around 3 hours with a
     break, or split in 2 sessions of 1h30 depending on tides conditions)
     All the necessary equipment  (surfboard andwetsuit)
     Insurance
     Transport if necessary

What to Bring:

    Swimsuit and beach Towel;
    Appropriate clothing to the weather conditions of the day and lots of sunscreen;

Private Surf Lessons

Get all the surf coach attention and make the most of your time with an intensive 1h30/2h00 private surf lesson.
Specially aimed at children from 5 to 10 years old and to all surfing levels.
From beginners to Intermediate, and Advanced surfers, looking to improve their surfing technique.
The Private teaching for intermediate to advanced surfers cover a variety of activities designed to improve surfing technique, speed and maneuverability, stance, flow & fitness and give an opportunity for surfers to understand their surfing strengths and weaknesses.

The Private teaching for intermediate to advanced surfers cover a variety of activities designed to improve surfing technique, speed and maneuverability, stance, flow & fitness and give an opportunity for surfers to understand their surfing strengths and weaknesses. Get all the surf coach attention and make the most of your time with an intensive 1h30 private surf lesson. 1 to one or 2 people for one Surf Coach.

Surf Guiding

Get your own private surf guide, transport and surf gear (if you don’t have your own) and go on a adventure to surf the best spots according to your surf skills and expectations.  Come alone or with a group of friends and start your Surf adventures discovering most of the Algarve breaks without any hassle.  A true surf adventure in the SW tip of Europe

SURF MATERIALS

We use only the best quality equipment available in the market. From super comfy and warm wetsuits provided by Billabong or Xcel (3’2 and 4’3 mm) to outstanding surfboards provided by the experts that perform in a wide range of conditions for a broad spectrum of surfers.
Freeride also provides leashes and lycras as long as fiber glass surfboards to rent and also for sale. You can also buy your new BIC surfboard after you had tested it at the surf school.
Used surfboards are also available for sale at our venues.

YOGA

Taking time to develop a healthy mind and body…
Join a yoga class overlooking the Atlantic ocean or take a week yoga course to develop a deeper understanding of mind and body and to overcome mental and physical ailments. There will be 6, 5 or 3 day yoga courses and daily yoga classes Monday till Friday 8 Am and afternoon sessions at 6 Pm.

About the teacher

The yoga classes and courses will be conducted Michaël Bijker. Michaël is a passionate, certified yoga teacher with  800hr YA and yoga therapy certification from the Paramanand Institute of Yoga Science & Research in Indore, India . He mostly teaches yoga in the style of Shivananda Hatha yoga with integrated  mindfulness exercises.

At the moment Michael is in Portugal where he teaches yoga and meditation and organizes and teaches the Pure Flow Motions yoga and surf retreats.

This package is normally Taylor made and works better in a more private approach or in a small group with the same characteristics. So drop us a line, tell us what you are looking for, what you want to achieve with this course, how many days you can stay and we will send you a plan and a price. For now we will need a minimum of 4 people in the same surf level to get it started.
