Features
The resort is located in the Playgrounds area, where we have the highest diversity of good waves in the Mentawai Islands. Every wave is within a 15-minute speedboat ride from the resort and the closest one is Hideaways only 3 minutes by boat.
There is always a protected wave with an offshore wind somewhere. Our swell window is huge, from 240 SW through to 165 SE, our area gets consistently hit by a lot of swell from the Indian ocean. Our waves are the closest Mentawai waves to mainland Sumatra, which means less travel time for you to access our perfect waves.
We have waves that suit everyone from beginners to professional surfers. Our guest capacity is limited to 12 surfers, which means more waves for everybody! Every difficult wave has an alternate and easier wave nearby. This means we can divide our group by different surf levels. In addition to the huge variety of famous waves of international quality, there are still many other secrets or semi-secret spots of excellent quality in the zone which we do not share in our website!
The “UMA” 2 has two floors:
Downstairs: 1 Suite for couples and single with a double bed and 1 room for up to 3 guests
Upstairs: Master Room with 1 double bed and 3 single beds, for group of friends, families or couples.
Traditional Style, Modern Comfort Orthopaedic mattresses, 400 thread count sheets, air conditioning, mini-bar, hot water in a private bathroom and differentiated lighting decoration, ensure the welfare and comfort of guests. All the furnishings were made at the island resort using wood found on the beach ensuring a rustic and unique design
Breakfast consists of fruit cereal, yogurt, sandwiches, and pancakes, as well as the best coffee around, made with the finest grains of Sumatra.
For a long time SmoothStar has been known to Australian Surfers as the best surf training product outside the water. However, unless you have tried a SmoothStar, it is hard to understand why it feels so much like surfing.
The SmoothStar product replicates the surf feel because the front truck has a special turning device called the SmoothStar Thruster. The Thruster makes the front of the board loose so the board can turn and drive off the back trucks – the same as you would with surfboard rails and fins… the feel is “rail-to-rail” surfing on land.
The Thruster is so unique and so realistic like surfing that we have had to spend a lot of money to protect our innovation with patents. The turns are not sharp, floppy or stiff – they are “Smooth” but as radical as you want them to be and that is why we call it “SmoothStar”.
Andai Pilates – The physical and mind maintenance
All of this is provided by the Resort partnership with The Andai Studio. The owner, Andreia Fornaro, has the responsibility to choose all top-level professionals working at the Hidden Bay Resort Mentawai.
The main focus of our training routines is on stretching and regenerative exercises following the functional model of ‘Five Konzept’ developed in Germany. This allows our guests to enjoy their entire stay while maintaining peak performance levels in the water.
We also offer harder, more personalized workout routines to be executed in the resort under the supervision of one of our trainers – it all depends on each guest and their needs and wants.
Seasonal conditions
October to March- Low season but still with fun medium waves and almost no crowd
April to September- Mai season with a lot of swell.
June to August- High season with constant bigger waves.
Crowd factor and local people
we have many spots around. It will all depend on the conditions, specially the wind. With light winds many breaks work and spread the crowd. But even compared with Bali, we have much less surfers around, and be polite is a must around here.
Activities and facilities
We can also organize other activities like trekking and visiting the Local Mentawai Traditional people. Fishing, snorkeling stand up paddle are other options
The next day dawn, around 6:00am, our representative will pick you up to take you to the Mentawai fast boat which will make your journey from the city of Padang to the Resort. It’s around a 3-7 hrs trip depending on weather conditions. On your return, you should usually arrive in Padang around 18:30 hrs on the last day marked on your schedule. You must book your ticket out of Padang for after 21:00 hrs. Sometimes you will need to spend the night at Padang and take your fly on the next day.
People with CONNECTING INTERNATIONAL flights should pay EXTRA ATTENTION to the schedule and dates of the flights; If you are flying from Jakarta we recommend booking the international flight for the next day or after 23hrs on the day of your return. * We have organized our schedule in order to allow our guests to surf on the first and last day of their trip. This is another advantage we offer to our guests in order to make the most of their trip
Our transfer service includes all transportation from the airport to the resort and the way back. We use the modern Mentawai fast boat. Due to its design that allowing it to navigate safely in extreme winds and stormy conditions, this long boat is safer and more stable than the big speedboats as it can navigate in all weather conditions. This way we will have a much greater chance of a guaranteed departure on the scheduled dates avoiding delays and inconveniences due to bad weather.
Itinerary
The departures from Padang to the resort are always early in the morning around 07:00 am of the first day marked on the schedule allowing our guests to arrive at the resort around 03:00 pm, in time to get settled, have a healthy and energetic meal and go for their first surf session on the islands. The return from the Resort to Padang is organized late in the morning of the last day marked on the schedule allowing one last surf session early in the morning before getting back to mainland Sumatra. The arrival in Padang occurs around 6:30 pm.
