LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS

As with most areas of Indonesia, West Java gets the best surf conditions during the months March through to October. Depending on where you decide to travel, you will have access to breaks suiting both your skill levels and desires. Mostly this area is uncrowded and you will definitely get to experience the isolated Indo perfection you've always dreamt of! The waves in West Java are really under-rated. They are some of the best in Indo, even the world, it's just a matter of timing.

Todd Bradley is the proud owner of Just Dreaming. Todd has been travelling searching for uncrowded perfect waves in Indonesia for 24 years. Todd will be organizing all aspects of your holiday to ensure it runs as smooth as possible and you get the waves and service you desire. Although not present on each Just Dreaming charter, Todd remains a part time skipper and a very good surfer himself, relishing his chances to travel to the uncrowded waves of Panaitan and West Java.

CATERING

Dana our cook is dishing up excellent food, non-stop for ravenous surfers. Feeding charter after charter of starving surfers for this time, Dana is definitely doing something right! His specialty? Catch yourself a Yellowfin and shortly after he'll present you with wasabi seasoned sashimi and a cold Bintang... he'll be your new best friend!

SURF COURSE DETAILS

Just Dreaming will then depart Anyer Harbour that evening on high tide for the overnight trip, arriving at the first surf break early the following morning.

Once you arrive at Panaitan Island early that morning, your guide will ensure you are in the best possible waves considering the conditions.

Following this first surf, the rest of your 8 - 10 days at sea is entirely dependent on the surf conditions and your desires.

If there is a consistent ground swell, it may be as simple as making your way around the natural horseshoe bay, switching between waves as the wind changes. One Palm, Apocolypse, Illusions, Napalms, Indicators and Pussy's are all accessible inside the bay.

If it is small, or the winds are unpredictable, you might make your way outside the bay to surf different waves that our crew has the expertise to find and surf, some even on mainland Java. Angels, Ranger Station, Ranger's Rights, as well as many other waves, are found outside the bay.

Whatever the conditions, our crew will ensure you are surfing in the best waves possible for the entirety of your stay.

SURF MATERIALS

Please bring your own Material

Boards: size and shape is entirely personal. However, a good recommendation is to pack your regular/standard short board so you are comfortable and confident with it under your feet, as well as a step-up board for the bigger days. If you can stretch you're quiver to three boards, then a step down/fish style board is often a popular choice, or conversely, if you are going to chase the bigger, barrelling days, another step-up, or spare short board, may be a good idea!

Surf Accessories: reliable leg ropes + spares, fins + spares, tropical wax, ding repair kit/suncure, booties, rash vest/surf t-shirt, Gath helmet, beach towels. A full wetsuit may be advised for anybody that's really serious about getting deep, long barrels at solid One Palm. They give confidence and protection. Only really needed for One Palm and for those wanting to push themselves that little bit further.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

In between surfs, again, fulfilling your desires is our crew's mission: fishing, spearfishing, snorkelling, cliff jumping, island visits and exploration are all possibilities.

The fishing and snorkelling are fantastic and are often a favoured downtime activity. Guests and crew always catch fish, crabs and lobsters and Cookie ensures a fantastic meal is made of the catch.

In the very rare circumstance that both the surf and weather are below average, of course Just Dreaming is fitted out with a stereo and TV with an extensive music and DVD library to keep you entertained.

There are four known breaks around Panaitan Island that Just Dreaming charters often frequent, you may already be familiar with them. But what you may not be familiar with, is the plethora of other waves in the local area, suitable for all abilities, from beginners right through to professionals.

ONE PALM

A SHALLOW, OPEN RELENTLESS BARRELING LEFT.
For the experienced surfer. This point reef break is one of Indonesia's left-hand wonders. Waves here peel perfectly from outside to inside, barrelling the whole way over a shallow bottom that inspires paranoia but creates record-time tube rides. Indeed this is not a place for timid or inexperienced wave riders, but it is a place to score the best, longest barrels of your life, period.

APOCOLYPSE

A JAW-DROPPING RIGHTHAND PIT
For the intermediate to experienced surfer. Apocalypse doesn't look like much as you approach it from behind, but paddle into its lineup from Just Dreaming and you will discover a feisty wave that peaks, walls, plumes, and fires. The water is quite deep at the take-off point, but a combination of funnelled wave speeds, strong offshore winds and a receptive, stationary reef causes incoming swells to rise fast, hover, before hollowing out and breaking defiantly.

NAPALMS

A SMOKING LEFT
For the intermediate to experienced surfer. This is a fun, barrelling, left-hander located further inside the bay at Panaitan. If you know anything about barrel riding, you can't fail at Napalms. A perfectly shaped reef allows this left-hander to bend and refract at just the right angle for you to set your line, pull in and get spat out. Different swell angles and sizes make this more or less rippable, but it always remains fun!

ILLUSIONS

A GRINDING RIGHT THAT FULLY BARRELS
Beginner, intermediate and experienced surfers. Just seaward and up-shore from Apocalypse is yet another right, Illusions. A right hand point break, however not as reckless as the left at One Palm Point, Illusions is just as perfect providing barrels and ripable sections aplenty. A natural footers dream.

PUSSYS

A LONG LEFT FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS
An incredibly fun, and incredibly long, left-hander. Sometimes this wave seems like it can go forever, judging from the burning in your legs. Picking up almost any swell, it can be a go-to wave when conditions are small or, conversely, it might be a good option when the heart has had enough racing from it's more intense neighbours. All comers are welcome at Pussys.

RANGER's Station

A FUN PEAK WHICH CAN TURN RIGHT ON
Directly in front of the only building on Panaitan Island, the Ranger's Station, lies an A-frame peak that throws out a playful, sometimes hollow left and a fast pockety right with an occasional killer air end section. With a great mooring right next to the left in an idyllic bay, it's a great place to get fun waves, watch your mates surf or just relax and enjoy the scenery.

RANGER'S RIGHTS

A HOLLOW STEAM TRAIN RIGHT
Across the channel and seaward from the Ranger Station left lies a fast, open right-hander that can provide epic barrels when the conditions come together. Ranger's Rights shows shades of HT's in the Mentawais when it all comes together: paddle hard, take off, set your line, pull in, spit out. Of course, there is about 5% of the crowd here compared to HT's.

INDICATORS

FAST, DOWN THE LINE WAVE FOR ALL ABILITIES
A super fun left-hander that breaks in a deserted, isolated bay. Starting off fast, and sometimes hollow, this gem races along and ends in deep water, catering to all skill levels. Another go-to spot when the heart needs a rest and the crew just wants to have some fun and smash out a few turns.

ANGELS

GREAT FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS
A super fun left-hander that breaks in a deserted, isolated bay. Starting off fast, and sometimes hollow, it runs along and ends in deep water. Another go-to spot when the heart needs a rest and the crew just wants to have some fun and smash out a few turns.

After 8 - 10 days of this amazing routine, you may make the decision the day before your trip concludes to sail to the volcano of Krakatoa which is still active. It is an incredible experience, but as this will take most of the day to reach please be prepared to miss out on surfing this day.

JOURNEY

Ways to get to the camp

Your flight will arrive at Jakarta International Airport.

Upon arrival at Jakarta International Airport, you will meet the Just Dreaming drivers in the Arrivals Hall at Gate 2, in front of Dunkin' Donuts store.

The drivers will then transfer you and your luggage to the awaiting Just Dreaming vans for the leisurely 2 - 3 hour drive south-west from Jakarta to Anyer Harbour.

During this drive, your driver can stop at any time at you desire to purchase food, drink, refreshments etc. These stops can also be used to purchase anything else you may wish to have for your days at sea, for example, film, memory cards, chocolate, snack foods etc.

Upon arrival in Anyer, depending on the time, you may be able to head to a local bar or restaurant to relax and have a meal/drink (not included in charter cost) while the crew takes your luggage to the boat and finalises details for your departure.

Once aboard Just Dreaming, the crew will go through all safety procedures and the do's/dont's aboard the boat, as well as cooking up a nice dinner before departure.

Just Dreaming will then depart Anyer Harbour that evening on high tide for the overnight trip, arriving at the first surf break early the following morning.

Important details

No mandatory vaccinations are required for this area of Indonesia, however, we strongly recommend you consult your doctor for suitable medications, prescriptions and provisions appropriate for you and specific to the area.

Malaria will most likely be on your doctors radar when you inform them of the location you are travelling to, however, ensure you take serious note of any side effects of medication they recommend as some are not suitable for the tropics, making your eyes and skin hypersensitive to the sun.
