ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS

---

Our surf house is located approx. 200 m from the beach. Consolacao has 2 intermediate/advanced surf spots Consolacao and Porto Batel (both reef breaks). On the other side there is 3 km long beach that leads all the way to Peniche. After about 20 minutes walk there is Supertubos – most famous surf spot in Portugal (it hosts one of the biggest surf competition in the world – Rip Curl Pro). We organize our surf school in Baleal bay as it has best conditions for beginners and intermediate surfers.

CAMP CHARACTER

---

Camp can held up to 15 guests so it has family atmosphere. Main language is English. It is relax type of camp but ofcourse if someone wants to party there are few beach bars in Baleal. Average age of guests is from 20-45 but everyone is welcome. Children under 18 should be accompanied by an adult.

CAMP OPERATOR

Owners of the camp are Lea and Mislav. Most of the time they spend in camp with the rest of the team.  They founded first Croatian wave surf camp in 2010. Kohola was founded with a desire to finally popularise this great sport in the country and the region, because we wanted to clarify to everybody that you don`t need to travel to far exotic beaches in California, Hawaii or Bali to find a good surf. Soon surf camps grew up beyond the borders and now we are offering great surfing experience to anybody who would like to learn to surf or to improve his surfing skills and at the same time have fun with the rest of the people from the surf house.

ACCOMMODATION TYPES

---

Kohola surf house is hostel type of accommodation. It has private and shared rooms. House has 3 double rooms, 1 room with 2 single beds, 1 room with 2 bunk beds and 1 room with 3 bunk beds. It has 3 shared bathrooms (1 on each floor), shared kitchen and spacious living room. There is also a terrace with BBQ. Smoking is not allowed inside the house. Bed linen and towels are included.

CATERING

---

Breakfast and dinner are possible for extra fee (not included in price). Breakfast is buffet and dinner is prepared every day by our chef.  We also prepare food for vegetarians and wea re also flexible with menu if someone has some food allergies. It is also possible to use kitchen facilities if you want to prepare meals by yourself.  First shop is 100 m from the house but bigger supermarkets are in Peniche. Consolacao has few great seafood restaurants.

SURF COURSE DETAILS

---

Groups are maximum 8 students per instructor.  

Every morning between 10:00 and 11:00 (depends on conditions) instructor picks up students in front of the house and take them to surf spot with best conditions.  Group has 2 surf sessions with lunch break between the sessions.Return to house is between 17:30-18:30. All courses are held on English. We offer beginners, intermediate and advanced courses.

SURF MATERIALS

Wetsuit, surfboard, leash and beach transfer are included in price. There is possibility of using surfboards after surf course.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

---

We offer 3 trips:
- Obidos trip  (approx. 3 h) - trip to medieval city Obidos which is under UNESCO protection
  Price: 15 euros.
- Buddha park trip (approx. 3 h)- trip to biggest oriental park in Europe. Price: 15 euros.
- Trip to surfboard factory and Peniche peninsula – visiting one of the Portuguese surfboard
   factory and visiting Cabo Carvoiero – beautiful cape in Peniche. Price: 15 euros

We also offer:
- yoga lessons 12 euros per session
- bike rentals 5 euros per day

 SURF CONDITIONS

Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots
Closest surf spots are approx. 200 m from our house. On the left side are 2 intermediate/advanced surf spots (not for surf shools) Porto Batel and Consolacao (both reef breaks) and on the right side is long Consolacao beach with surf spots also suitable for beginners. We mostly take our students to Baleal bay as it has most of the time best conditions for surf school. It is approx. 5 km from the house and sometimes we go to a beautiful beach of Almagreira (approx.. 20 min drive from house).

Seasonal conditions
Best season for surfing in Peniche area is Spring and Autumn. Air temperatures are over 20 and sea is not cold as in winter time. Summer has less waves so we avoid it.

Crowd factor and local people
In period when we organize surf camps beaches are not crowded. We avoid summer (July and August) as the beaches are crowded with tourists.

Characterization of surroundings/region
Our surf house is located in peaceful village Consolacao just few km from Peniche one of the most popular place for surfing in Portugal. Consolacao has few restaurants and shops, but bigger supermarkets, surf shops, hospital, museum etc. are located in Peniche. Capital of Portugal, Lisbon is 90 km from Peniche but it is very good connected with buses.

Activities and facilities
We offer 3 trips: Obidos trip, Buddha park trip, surfboard factory and Peniche peninsula trip. There are also boat trips to Berlenga islands in Peniche.  There is also possibility to organize a SUP tour in Obidos lagoon. Peniche has one museum, few night bars and lots of restaurants. In Baleal you can find few beach bars which are working long in the night.

Ways to get to the camp
Closest airport is airport in Lisbon. It is approx.. 90 km from Peniche. There is good connection with public transfer. Buses are going to Peniche from Sete Rios and Campo Grande bus stations (it is around 1.15 h ride). Bus costs 10 euros per way. We also offer airport transfer and it costs from 20-60 euros depends on number of guests. There is also an option with  a taxi (approx. 100 euros per way). If you are coming by bus we can pick you up on a bus station in Peniche.

Important details
Visa is not required for European citizens.
