Summary
Due to its geographical position Portugal is blessed with some seriously sweet swells throughout most of the year. For intermediate to advance surfers both Spring and Autumn is when best conditions are gathered for surfing. Swells do slow down in the summer period, which is when is best both for beginners to intermediate surfers.
Esposende is a top surfing area with beautiful, long, sandy beaches, perfect for someone wanting to learn or improve its skills. With an outside reef that slows down the Atlantic swells in some of its spots, you can always find a spot which will be more exposed or more protected from the waves suitable for every level of surf. Also, there are some sea walls along the beach which allow you to be more protected on stronger swells, they also originate point breaks which can deliver you some sweet surf sessions. The uniqueness of Esposende comes from its interaction with Cávado estuary its dune system and the Atlantic Ocean.
The surf in the region still enjoys the pleasure of uncrowded beaches and the fact that some of the spots are inside a natural reserve will give you some unforgettable experiences. Having different spots so close together gives us the opportunity each day to choose the one that gathers the best conditions for your specific level of surf.
We have several sizes of boards suitable for whatever is your level, both for lessons or rental. We have also a professional and experimented team, which is very familiar with the spot.
From the endless beach days, improving your skills or learning new ones in your favorite sport, having dinner in the best local restaurants enjoying the amazing Portuguese flavors, discovering new and old places and people. Toping that up with a night in the local renowned clubs, pubs, and cultural places around, and you have all the ingredients for some explosive vacations.
The proximity to two of the most emblematic cities of Portugal gives you the opportunity to travel back in time while exploring medieval sites and discover the legacy of Porto and Guimarães on their world heritage historical center.

ABOUT THE SURF CAMP
LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS
You will be staying in the center of town close to the surf spot and Surf School. From the surf school, we will check the best places to go surf and either by boat or in our surf bus we will go to the best location for surfing. We have departures at 10-12, 14-16-18 to the best surf spot of the day. All places are sandy beaches, the best times varies with the tide so we move from place to place according to the best tide for the spot. The camp is situated in town next to all bars and restaurants.
CAMP CHARACTER
This camp is part of a multisports camp. There are several people for kitesurfing, yoga, surf and other sports. There are people from all places and all ages. The usual is from 18 to 45 years. It’s a big camp that can go up to 40 people. The location is relaxed but close by there is a lot of party places. So it’s up to you to have an easy going time or party hard. The main language used in the camp is English as people come from all over the world.
CAMP OPERATOR
Kook Proof is owned by surfers and kitesurfers that have turned their hobbies into their lifestyle. Since 2008 they have been investing in equipping the center to have all that is necessary to teach surfing, kitesurfing and paddle surf. The whole camp is targeting people interested in enjoying the sun and beach times surfing in all possible ways.
ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING
ACCOMMODATION TYPES
The camp Is in a completely renewed hostel. It will have 34 beds in total. 2 Multiple standard rooms with 6 beds each and shared bathroom, 3 superior multiple rooms with 4 persons each and bathroom in the room, 3 standard double rooms with shared bathroom and 2 superior suites with balcony. The hostel is located in the city center and walking distance from the school. All the restaurants and small bars are at a close distance from it. On the hostel, you will have access to the kitchen and to 2 main common rooms equipped with tv and a chill out place. Airdryer is provided upon request and a towel is included. All beds have their own lockable place.
CATERING
On the Surf camp, we only have bed and breakfast, there is full use of the kitchen provided and we organize daily trips to the local restaurants at very low prices. There is always a possibility to find vegetarian meals around
SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES
SURF COURSE DETAILS
We organize the groups by skill level, at a maximum of 6 students per instructor, each lesson has a duration of 2h and we do at least one lesson per day plus an extra renting time of 2h is included in the camp. The lessons are run in English most of the times. You can sign up just for lessons also at the school.
SURF MATERIALS
During the surf lessons, we give beginners foam boards to maximize the evolution. There is fiberglass board available for the more experienced riders. The participants will have access to all the equipment necessary including the wetsuit, however, we recommend that you bring your own if you happen to have it. Outside of the lessons, you can use the surfboard for 2h each day
OTHER ACTIVITIES
We organize several other activities and trips such as Porto Tours, Kitesurf lessons, paddle surf tours, canyoning, geres tour, cable park, etc

SURF CONDITIONS
Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots
The spots we go to are all sandy beach spots, all are at close distance and can be reached in less than 20min. Some are accessible by boat and some by car.
Seasonal conditions
The temperature in the Atlantic coast is around 18-20C in the water. Outside temperature ranges between 20C and 28C, the wind is stronger in the afternoon and usually nonexistant in the morning. Waves are pretty consistent all year round.
Crowd factor and local people
Our main spot is only for us as the beach is a bit exclusive. Since we go by boat only we can use this hidden gem. The other spots are also used by other schools and surfers as they are accessed by car. Still, those are not super crowded and can be surfed pretty alone.

Ways to get to the camp
Saturday’s is the only arrival day unless it’s impossible for you to check-in due to flights. Other dates can still be obtained at an extra cost. Once you submit your request please let us know your plans, we can help you to stay one day or more days on departure or arrival in Porto/Esposende or another place that is convenient for the client.
From any place in Porto or train station, there is a metro to the airport. All transfers will be done from airport: There will be several departure times each way per Saturday done with different providers and with different costs.
