ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS

Our surf camp is located in Lajares, Fuerteventura, ideally positioned between El Cotillo, Majanicho, and the dunes of Corralejo. Situated in the heart of the north coast, Lajares gives you access to all the major surf spots within just 15 minutes. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced surfer, you’ll find waves suited to your level.

Lajares is perfect for those seeking a peaceful escape. The village itself is charming to explore, and our surf house offers plenty of tranquil corners to unwind. For more lively moments, we do alot of actvities in the surf house and you can enjoy live music on Wednesdays in Lajares, or head to Corralejo on Fridays for a night out. We also stay updated on special island parties hosted in villas or in the desert, adding something unique to the experience.

Why stay in Lajares and not Corralejo? We are closer to the surf spots, especially to the North Shore, which has the most consistent breaks. You’ll still get plenty of beach time, as we head out at least once a day and we aim to include as much time at the beach as guests prefer. For parties, no worries — a taxi for 6 people to Corralejo is only 20 euros, and the desert parties or jam sessions at Canella Café are often the best options!

Our camp is set in the stunning volcanic landscape of Lajares, just 10-15 minutes from Fuerteventura’s top surf spots. We’re closest to the North Shore, home to the best breaks on the island, with a variety of spots for all levels: beginner-friendly waves like La Lagunita, consistent spots like Punta Blanca, and more advanced reef and point breaks.

With our prime location, we can easily adapt to the incoming swells and be at each coast in the same amount of time, offering everything from longboard-friendly waves to challenging beach and reef breaks.

CAMP CHARACTER

Our surf camp caters to a diverse group, primarily attracting solo travelers and small groups of adults ages 18 and up (average age is between 23 and 35) who are looking for more than just a vacation. The camp is perfect for those who are passionate about surfing, physical activity and relaxation. Our guests often come to get away from it all and connect with like-minded people. That's why we tailor the week to the vibe of the group and don't just follow our own routine. We have a list of 30 activities, including 10 deceleration activities such as beach meditation, 10 sports activities such as a beach volleyball tournament, but also a party and fun segment including charades, icebreaker games and more. Each week the group democratically chooses 3 of these activities to make the week fit their idea of a perfect surf camp week.

The camp itself maintains a medium size of 12 to 18 people per week, creating a warm, family-like atmosphere that allows for personal connections while still leaving enough space for individual reflection. However, there's still plenty of room for light-hearted fun and social interaction, with activities designed to foster connection among the guests. Of course, we try to find a common language, so in the common area we ask guests to hold conversations in English so that everyone can participate!

CAMP OPERATOR

Kyuka Surfclub was founded by the Swiss brothers Sascha and Timo Imhof, who transformed a casual idea that originated during their first surfing experience, into a full-fledged surf camp rooted in passion and commitment. With Sascha’s background in business administration and Timo’s expertise in social work, they bring a well-rounded skillset to managing the camp and bringing people together. Their shared vision is to create more than just a surf camp – they wanted to offer a second home, a place where people feel welcomed, safe, and part of a community. This led them to establish Kyuka in Fuerteventura, the perfect location for their surf retreat, where they focus on holistic experiences beyond just surfing.

The Kyuka Surfclub team includes Sascha as the financial manager, Timo as the operational manager, and Anina, who brings her passion for music and a flair for creativity to the commercial side of the business. Completing the team is Buddy, their loyal Italian greyhound, who is a beloved mascot of the camp and brings warmth and companionship to every guest. Together, they’ve crafted a retreat where surfers not only develop their skills but return home with newfound friendships, confidence, and life-changing experiences.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

SURF COURSE DETAILS

At Kyuka Surfclub, we prioritize small group sizes to ensure personalized attention for every participant. Our participant-to-surf-instructor ratio is around 5:1, allowing for tailored coaching that helps each surfer progress effectively, regardless of their skill level.

The surf courses typically follow a half-day schedule, with mornings or afternoons dedicated to lessons. The total course duration can vary depending on the package, but a standard surf week includes about 15-20 hours of instruction (around 4h daily), spread across 5 days. The course program covers all levels, from beginners learning the basics to advanced surfers looking to refine their technique. Lessons are designed to improve paddling, balance, wave selection, and maneuvering, with goals personalized to each participant’s progression.

For people who have outgrown traditional surf lessons we also offer personalized surf coaching by our partner TightArcs. These sessions are led by an ISA/FES Level 2 High Performance Coach and include personalized video analysis to refine your technique. With a maximum of 5 participants per session, we ensure that each individual receives tailored guidance and feedback. The coaching combines theoretical instruction, mobility work, and practical water sessions, allowing you to immediately apply what you've learned.

Our surf sessions take place at various surf spots around Fuerteventura, chosen daily depending on weather and surf conditions. While our packages include accommodation, we also offer the option for participants to stay with us without surfing, making our camp flexible for different needs and preferences.

SURF MATERIALS

In our surf courses, all necessary gear, including wetsuits, soft-top boards, and leashes, will be provided through our partners. Participants will have access to soft-top boards ideal for beginners and intermediates, as well as a range of other boards suited for different skill levels. Advanced surfers are encouraged to rent performance boards from our partners, ensuring that they have the right equipment to enhance their surfing experience.

While we do not have our own equipment for rent, we assist our guests in sourcing the best boards for their needs. You can choose to rent boards for the duration of your stay, which allows for flexibility to try different types and sizes based on daily surf conditions. This setup is especially advantageous for discovering the board that suits your surfing style best.

If you plan on participating in surf coaching sessions with Tight Arcs, please note that you will need to arrange your own board rental separately for those sessions. Our surf coaching is designed for those looking to improve their skills through personalized feedback and video analysis, while our standard surf lessons focus on group dynamics and fun in the water.

MORE INFO, HOW TO GET THERE & FAQ

SURF CONDITIONS
Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots

There are reef, beach and point breaks all reachable in less than 15min. Depending on the conditions the best one for a specific day can change. The best beginner spot is Piedra Playa, a true white wash machine beach break, that can also barrel if the conditions are right. Punta Blanca, an amazing reef break that works pretty much under all conditions, but if the outside wave is working, one of the nicest places also for advanced surfers.

Seasonal conditions

Winter (November - March)

This is prime time for advanced surfers and those looking for coaching. The waves are more consistent and powerful, perfect for honing high-performance skills. Beginners can still find plenty of safe spots, while intermediate surfers enjoy dependable waves. Average temperatures range from 20-23°C with minimal rain, making it ideal for winter getaways.

Spring (April - June)

Spring offers a mix for all skill levels, with fewer crowds and ideal conditions for beginners and intermediates. Wave quality remains high for advanced surfers, especially in April. Temperatures rise to 22-25°C, and rain is almost non-existent. It’s the perfect time to enjoy steady waves with warmer weather.

Summer (July - August)

Summer is mellower, with smaller waves that cater best to beginners and intermediate surfers. While the waves aren’t as challenging for advanced surfers, it’s a great time to relax, enjoy warm water, and focus on paddling or technique. Temperatures peak at 27°C, and rain is virtually unheard of.

Autumn (September - October)

As we move into autumn, conditions start to pick up again, especially for intermediates and advanced surfers. Waves become more consistent, but still manageable for all levels. Temperatures remain warm, around 26-27°C, with almost no rain. It’s an excellent season for anyone looking to improve their surfing skills.

Crowd factor and local people

Fuerteventura, being one of the last colonized islands in the Canaries, is known for its rather quiet beaches and open spaces, even during busier times. While some waves can get crowded, especially with surf schools, this can easily be managed with good timing and planning. Unlike other surf spots around the world, Fuerteventura’s localism is less intense. There are certain local-only surf spots, but these tend to be very high-level, dangerous breaks with shallow reefs and heavy barrels. These conditions make them less appealing to most surfers, and they're usually not the kind of waves beginners or intermediates would want to surf. If you behave respectfully towards everyone in the water, you will have an amazing experience.
