Summary
M.I.A Surfcamp is a beach front surf camp overlooking five different reef breaks, catering to all board riders of all levels. The Mentawai's are without a doubt the number one surf destination on the planet, no where else can you find the perfection, consistency and number of breaks in such a small area. People travel from all over the world to surf the perfect waves they see online & in the surf videos and magazines the Mentawai Islands have to offer, but don't be fooled there are also plenty of breaks in our area (playgrounds) that are suitable for all surfing abilities.
Your experience at M.I.A is paramount, and it's for this reason we limit our numbers to a maximum of only eight guests at any one time. This boutique style is a more personal experience and surpassing expectations is our goal. For us our trips are not about reaching high numbers, but delivering great experiences (and waves), at a very reasonable price.
We are located in the Northern Mentawai Islands on Nyang Nyang Island, right in front of a break named Nipussi which is the most consistent, user friendly wave in the region by far; plus there's another 4 waves on our doorstep that are more suited to the advanced surfers and bodyboarders one of which is the world famous Bankvaults. On top of this all five waves out front are clearly visible from your spacious accommodation and all areas of camp, so even between surfs your constantly watching epic surf roll in.
We have a relaxed atmosphere here at M.I.A Surfcamp and we want you to feel at home during your stay, getting some of the best surf of your life and experiencing the chilled Mentawai way of life. We know you will fall in love with the waves, the camp, the food, the islands and the people.

ABOUT THE SURF CAMP
LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS
M.I.A Surfcamp is located on Nyang Nyang Island in Northern Mentawai Islands. All breaks are reef breaks, however there are over 25+ breaks in the area and there are waves year round.
CAMP CHARACTER
M.I.A Surfcamp only holds a max of 8 guests at any one time. This is to ensure that you get uncrowded waves during your stay. we are absolute beach front and can't get any closer even if you tried.
CAMP OPERATOR
We are Australian own and have been in the area for over 10 years. M.I.A Surfcamp first opened it's doors in 2016 and we have built it from the ground up.
ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING
ACCOMMODATION TYPES
Our beautiful beach-front surf camp features two traditional locally built guest bungalows only a stones throw from the water’s edge. They feature Italian made 5 star pillow top mattresses and linen with mosquito nets, fans, lockable wardrobes, international wall sockets and large spacious balconies with fixed bench sofas and removable hammocks, perfect to chill out, read a book, use WiFi and watch the waves out front between surfs. All five reef breaks are visible from both bungalows, you can see the waves from your bed, choose which one to surf as the sun rises up over the horizon.
Each bungalow is shared accommodation and has its own separate en-suite with western toilets and showers, both also have an outside beach shower and board racks.
CATERING
All meals are included in your package. Our cuisine is a mixture of Indonesian and Western cuisine and our dishes are a hit with the guests as we use fresh local produce. We have taught the locals how to deliver great western cuisine and always make the meals as healthy as possible as you're surfing all day and it's important to eat right.

SURF CONDITIONS
Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots
We have 5 breaks in front of camp..
The Peak - directly in front of Bungalow 2 (30 steps to key hole).
Nipussi - directly in front of main house (30 steps to key hole).
The Klit - 3 min walk up the beach and suited for surfers and boogers.
Piggy Banks - 5 min walk up the beach and suited for surfers and boogers.
Bankvaults - 7 min walk up the beach'
We have access to another 25+ breaks via speedboat
Seasonal conditions
The prime surfing season in the Mentawais is between March and October/November. Between December and February, the waves are smaller and mellower, thus more suitable for intermediate surfers. The main difference between the prime season and the off-season lies in the wave size. There are also fewer crowds and northwesterly winds actually favor some of the lesser-known waves.The water temperature is warm year-round, between 26-28°C (79-82°F).
This roughly coincides with the dry season, as well as the best time to surf throughout most of Indonesia. But thanks to their location – getting the most out of the southwestern swells that are consistently being pumped through the Java Trench – there are waves in the Mentawai Islands all year round.

SURROUNDINGS / REGION
Characterization of surroundings/region
Mentawai Islands is very remote with no electricity or running water. We run off generators and solar with nearest town being 15 min boat ride from our mooring.
JOURNEY
Ways to get to the camp
Fly into Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Fly from Kuala Lumpur to Padang International Airport (45 minutes).
Or from Bali, fly to Jakarta than Padang.
Pre-arranged MIA Driver will transfer you from Padang airport and take you to the overnight ferry terminal.
If you prefer to catch the Mentawai fast ferry instead you will not arrive at MIA until 4 or 5 pm on 1st day of your trip (ticket paid by guest).
Overnight ferry will take you to Siberut Port arriving in the very early hours (best to stay asleep until sun comes up.)
Your hosts and boat drivers will be at Siberut Port to meet you (at sunrise) with a speedboat and take you to M.I.A Surfcamp. (1 hour trip with breakfast included).
