MORE INFO, HOW TO GET THERE & FAQ

FAQs
Is Nicaragua Safe?

Yes, absolutely!  In fact, Nicaragua is considered to be the safest country in Central America, way ahead of the region's most popular destination - Costa Rica.  Nicaragua's theft and violent crime statistics are significantly lower than it's neighbours both North and South.
How do I pay my deposit?

We require a deposit to confirm your reservation.  Once you have confirmed your reservation we will send an invoice to your email address.  Please follow the link in this email to complete your payment.
Can I stay more/fewer days than the 7 day package?

Sure, you can customise your stay for as long or short as you like. Also, for stays longer than 7 days, we offer a great discounted rate for every extra night! Please just let us know how long you would like to stay.
I'm Vegetarian/Vegan/Gluten intolerant, can you cater for me?

Food is very important to us, we like to eat and eat well! It is therefore a pleasure to cater to any and all dietary requirements, but it's REALLY IMPORTANT that you tell us at the time of your booking.  We will tailor a menu to suit your needs, but if you have a severely restricted diet we may request that you bring with you some speciality items that are not available in Nicaragua so we can offer you full and varied meals every day.
When is best time to come for waves?

The best swells for Nicaragua are generated by the large Southern Pacific storms. These occur in the Northern Hemisphere summer time, from March until October.
What's the best time to come for beginners/lessons?

The best time to have lessons is November to March. The waves are generally smaller and more manageable. For beginners/intermediates with good water confidence and fitness, however, anytime in the main swell season is usually fine. Just be aware that there may be a couple of sessions where you might sit it out and watch (which is pretty entertaining!), but only when the really big swells come through.
What should I bring with me?

There are some essential items that you will need to bring. Other items on this list are optional, but please note, we do not provide any of the items listed below.

Sunscreen - a good water resistant brand, of SPF 30+
Surf Wax - must be Tropical temperature wax.
Spare leash - we do not have leashes for sale so be sure to bring a spare.
Bug repellant - while not always a huge problem, it's very important to bring insect protection with you.
Light long sleeved shirt and pants - also for bite prevention
Sunglasses
Sun Hat
Camera
Rash guard/T-shirts for surfing
Any medication you will need - including an Epi-Pen if you suffer from allergies. We also advise some anti-inflammatories and pain killers just in case.
Ding repair kit - while we are sometimes able to offer a board repair service, this depends entirely on the availability of time and materials. If you have your own Solarez or similar a ding will not stop the fun!
Cash to pay the remainder of your reservation - we offer private and completely secure transfers from the airport so don't worry about travelling with cash.
Shoes and socks - while we live in flip-flops or just bare feet we sometimes take a trip away from the beach. If you want to join in with a hike or city trip, you will need some practical but light-weight footware.
Surf Magazines - We would be very grateful for any new or old magazines you might have - we miss the up to date stories out here.
First Aid Kit - please bring a basic first aid kit to deal with the more day-to-day issues.
Toiletries - Anything you need along the lines of Shampoo, Conditioner, Toothbrush and toothpaste etc.
Do I need any Vaccinations for Nicaragua?

We always recommend that you seek the advice of your Physician (we're not doctors after all!), but the following vaccinations and Malaria precautions are recommended by www.traveldoctor.com

Vaccinations:
Hepititis A
Tetanus
Typhiod
Polio

Some of these you may already have from your childhood vaccination program.

Malaria:

2 x 150mg Chloroquine Tablets - Weekly

The recommendation is to begin 1 week before and to continue 4 weeks after your trip.

While these tablets taste pretty bitter, it's only once a week and they have very few side effects.
Where do I fly to and who with?

You need to book your flights to Managua, Nicaragua. The airport code is MGA.

From the USA, United and Delta offer good service and a arrival times. Spirit Air is cheaper but they have many red-eye flights as a result.

Flights from Europe and elsewhere will vary significantly by departure country. It is often a good idea to check flights that route via Florida (Miami or Orlando) and Texas (Houston).

Anyone arriving from the Pacific side of the Americas will likely route through LA.

Do I need a Visa to enter Nicaragua?

Most visitors from Europe and the USA do not require special visas but will be issued a tourist entry visa valid for a maximum of 90 days to stay within the CA4 countries (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua). It is important that you check with your embassy or government foreign travel office to be certain of the latest rules and restrictions. Your travel document must be valid for 6 months from the date of arrival.
