Great Surfing for Beginners with Jerry The Surfhouse is a little 5 to 10min walk aside the town center. It has a full equiped kitchen and nice rooms with little welcome packages and a nice cleaning lady, who comes everyday.
It is super easy to get in contact with other surfers there, though it was not very crowded while I was there. Equipment is alright, staff chilled but from the "quality" of the course very different. The very best surfing experience and lesson with full theory and practice was for me with Jerry, who I recommand here 100%! He´s the best, very patient, funny friendly and he teaches you so much in one day, that another surf camp on Fuerteventura didn´t manage to transmit in 1 week :) Famara is a very little town and to get around on Lanzarote to nice places with something like nightlife, you definetely need to rent a car. I enjoyed my time there a lot.

ABOUT THE SURF CAMP
LOCATION AND CAMP CHRACTER
Internationally renowned for it’s fantastic Surfing, Kitesurfing, Tow-in Surfing, Sailing, Scuba Diving, Windsurfing, Fishing, Hang Gliding, Paragliding, Snorkelling, Cycling, Mountain biking, Running and Ironman events, just to name a few. Here at Red Star Surf & Yoga Camp we love to surf and kite, and Famara beach is one of the best places in Europe to learn, from beginners’ level to advanced.
If you never tried surfing or kitesurfing before, Lanzarote is the place to take the first steps. For intermediate or advanced surfers and kite surfers, Lanzarote offers a wide variety of locations that work in all different conditions throughout the year.
Yoga at Red Star Surf is very popular and our relaxing classes will have you cleansed and energized. Amazing sunrises and sunsets with the help of Yoga will leave you feeling reborn. Take in the fantastic scenery and explore this magical place whilst enjoying all Lanzarote has to offer – from amazing surf, to great kiting, relaxing yoga or any other great sport your heart desires.
ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING
ACCOMMODATION
Another important part of the Surfcamp experience is to stay at the surf school base. Share your emotions with other course participants, make new friends from all over the world. Exclusively for the participants of the surf, kite, yoga lessons or surfari, the school base offers perfect lodging all year round. The school base lodges up to 25 people and comprises of shared, double and single rooms, fully equipped kitchens, WCs, baths and roof terraces.
The RSS School Base has a Living- and breakfast room and a roof terrace with sea view. Here you can chill out watching a surf movie or have a nice party, play surfing games or have a dart tournament, what ever – it’s up to you guys, anything is possible!
If you don’t want to share your room with anybody and still participate in the surf house life – a single room is the right choice for you. You can also use this room as a double room.
CATERING
All our surf houses in Famara have a fully equipped kitchen, which you can share with other guests. The small local supermarkets provide a good selection of international and local products. For dinner, we still recommend to go out. Most of the local restaurants and bars are good, inexpensive and provide international menues. Famara offers a choice between cheap and quick canarian local fastfood to fine cuisine. Ask our friendly team for recommendations.
SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES
SURF COURSE DETAILS
We offer INDIVIDUAL and GROUP SURFING LESSONS with up to 8 students per instructor/lifeguard. Our attitude to surfing makes possible, that we always find the appropriate approach to each student – you will love surfing! Surfing is not just a sport, it is a culture. We offer you to get acquainted closer with the culture of surfing in informal conditions together with our crew. Open all year long and every day!
If you have never tried surfing before it’s never too late, and here at Red Star Surf we cater for everyone at all levels to help you realize your surfing potential. In a safe environment, with the right equipment we help you step by step to achieve the surfing goals set. This is exactly what our teaching methodology is based on, the successful and globally recognized educational approach of the British Surfing Association (BSA). Our experienced instructors are trained and certified by the BSA. They are also lifeguards trained and certified by the Surfing Life Saving Association (SLSA).
Children over 6 years of age, who can already swim can take part in the surf lessons. Experience has taught us that pure children groups are not very effective. Children and adults benefit in many ways from each other and can learn together better and faster. Without any stress or pressure the kids are introduced to their first steps in the water. The surfing students get used to the ocean and the waves, then they learn to glide on the water and then comes the surfing. Classes are always held in a secure waist depth where you stand and always are close to the instructor. The class usually lasts for 4-5 hours which includes lunch and a short break. We also offer private coaching for all levels. Famara beach is one of the best places in Europe to learn to surf with great waves, nice weather most of the year and the experienced Red Star Surf team to guide you all the way.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
For advanced surfers who want to rock Europes finest reef breaks we also offer a SURFARI to the best spots of Lanzarote and the neighbouring islands. Lanzarote has a very high surf spot density, within 10 min up to max. half an hour drive you can reach over 50 surf spots for all swell and wind directions. May and June are the wave poorest months, but we still have great surf a few days a week.
We will introduce you to the best waves Lanzarote has to offer during the time you are here. Some spots are hard to find, to surf or even just entering and exiting the water can be quite a challenge at some spots. Especially during a large swell, which is quite often here on Lanzarote. Our experienced surf guides/instructors will walk you through everything you need to know to get the most out of your surf trip, so take the surfari option and come catch some perfect waves with us!
Furthermore we offer relaxing yoga classes to compliment the physically demanding water sports like surfing, SUP, kiting or windsurfing. Yoga also prevents stiff muscles and accelerates the regeneration process.

SURF CONDITIONS
Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots
The beach Playa Famara, just a few minutes walk from any part of the village is a surfers paradise. You have the choice of a lot of surf spots just by walking a couple of minutes. There are beginner beach breaks, reef breaks, point breaks and a couple of tow-in big wave spots.
Lanzarote has a very high surf spot density, within 10 min up to max. half an hour drive you can reach over 50 surf spots for all swell and wind directions.
Seasonal conditions
Best time is from September to May, but all months receive some amazing wave options, over the island and surrounding islands.
SURROUNDINGS/REGION
Surfers from around the world love Lanzarote and appreciate it as the perfect place to escape from the north european harsh winter or to enjoy the nice summer conditions. Our dream place is only 4 hour flight away from Central Europe! Many airlines offer very cheap flights to Lanzarote. In the category ARRIVAL you will find links for the flight search and other useful travel tips. The Red Star Surf Shop and the surf school base are located in the village Caleta de Famara. We offer relaxing yoga classes to compliment the physically demanding water sports like surfing, SUP, kiting or windsurfing. Yoga also prevents stiff muscles and accelerates the regeneration process.
JOURNEY
Ways to get to the camp
Our airport is Arrecife (ACE). The cheapest way is usually via the Internet travel agencies. Sometimes the airlines offer cheap flights as well. You’re flying with Ryanair starting at GBP 60, – return from London.
Taxi from the airport to the camp: € 30,-. Takes about half an hour. Address for the taxi driver and an arrival scheme you will find in the booking confirmation.
Bus connection also exists, you just take any bus to Costa Teguise and there you switch to Caleta de Famara. Total cost about € 5,- takes about 1.5 hours.
We can also arrange an airport pickup for groups € 100,- per bus (up to 10 people) return.
