Summary

Surfana Bali – Pelan Pelan Retreat

Surrounded by rice fields, beautiful beaches and Hindu temples we’ve found an ultimate “good life” destination in the retro-surf epicenter; Canggu, Bali.

Our cosy surf retreat in Bali features three separate villas, situated around a large outdoor swimming pool in the middle of a stunning Balinese garden. At the lounge area you can relax and sip from a freshly prepared cocktail, fruit juice or order a bite.

We fully live by the saying “Pelan Pelan”, which means ‘slow down’ in Balinese, and that is exactly the way of life we’d like to show you.

It’s a true paradise for those who are searching to fully relax, (learn to) surf, eat healthy, meet likeminded people and experience what we think is good life.

We hope to meet you soon!

Much love, the Surfana Bali crew

ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS

There is no better place to learn surfing than Bali. Year round waves and perfect weather make it ideal for the beginning and advanced surfer. No need for a wetsuit, just put on some sunscreen, a bikini or boardshort and you’re all set to get in the water.

CAMP CHARACTER

Surfana has been giving more the 20.000 surflessons around the world since 2007. The reason we are known for giving great lessons is because we love doing it. Sharing our passion has become a fundament of our good life philosophy.  With over a 100 skilled surf teachers we have been (and still are) developing a way of surfteaching that learn people surfing in the most fun and best way.  When we came to Bali and met our head surf coach Putu, we knew he would be the one combining the Surfana way of teaching with the important local surf knowledge to provide the best possible surf courses in Bali.

To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” ~Buddha

CAMP OPERATOR

Surfana is a surf and good life collective founded in the summer of 2007.  The motivation of collective was nothing more than a desire to be happy. Our love, passion and freedom mentality soon gave us wings which resulted in several surfschools, camps and surftrips around Europe and the Maldives. In 2013 we felt we had to celebrate and organized the much beloved Surfana Festival. In november 2014 we met Emma and her surf retreat “Pelan Pelan” in Canggu. We instantly felt a connection that could fulfill our purpose of being happy. We drank some beers, surfed some waves together and decided to join together our love for living the good life by creating the most amazing retreat someone could imagine. Apart from all the fun things to do, meeting new people and enjoying delicious food it’s also a place to rest and feel zen. That is why we call it a ‘surf and good life retreat’.

As of the 1st of January 2015 the retreat is known as ‘Surfana Bali’ and open for anyone who wants to experience what we think is good life.

MORE INFO, HOW TO GET THERE & FAQ

FAQ

Where do I fly to if I want to book?

You have to book a ticket to the international airport of Bali called Den Pasar. Have a look at skyscanner.com for cheap tickets.

How do I get to the Surfana Bali retreat from the airport?

Most of the people select a package or ask for an airport pick up. We will then pick you up at the airport, waiting there with a name sign, so you can’t miss us. If you are already on Bali or want to visit us you can use the Google Maps to get to us (found at the contact page). If you have to tell a taxi where to go, tell him Jalan Sempol in Pererenan. You will see a wooden sign at the main street. Our phone is always reachable if we expect you.

Does the retreat have WIFI?

Yes, there is WIFI at the lounge area which is freely accessible to all the guests.

What else is good to know?

It’s good to know that Bali is no western country. Thats why we think it’s so charming. The other side of it is that accidents can happen more often. Our experience is that if you act normal, follow your instinct and never drink and drive, chances of getting hurt decreases substantially.

People drive at the left side of the road in Bali (experience is that you will pick this up very fast).

The local currency is called the Rupiah (IDR). 100.000 rupiah are worth around €7.

If you arrive by airplane you will have to buy your visa at the airport. The costs of a visa are $35. You can pay the visa in euro, dollars or rupiah. Any change will be paid back to you in rupiah.

If you leave the country you will have to pay 200.000 rupiah which equals around €15 euro or $20.

It’s always handy to have $100 cash if you arrive.

The weather is Bali is tropical year round. Meaning that you spend most your days in shirts and shorts.

The Balinese mentality is very nice. People always smile and are very friendly. If things take a bit longer then expected, please relax, Balinese will always try their best to help you as good as possible.

Part of the culture is to bargain about a lot things. Don’t feel you are being ripped off, it’s just their way of doing business. We’ll help you to get good at it and to pay the right price.

You can buy a lot of things in Bali, so don’t worry to much about packing your bags as you will probably buy more then first thought of (things are way cheaper than in Europe).

Top 10 things to bring: 1) passport (valid at least for 6 months) 2) shorts and bikini’s 3) sunglasses 4) sunscreen 5) thongs 6) $100 cash 7) creditcard or bank card 8) a good book 9) headphones 10) your lovely personality

Can I come by myself?

Yes you can. The relaxed and open vibe at the retreat makes it perfect for those who are traveling by themselves. The shared areas such as the living room, lounge and pool are a perfect place to get to know the other guests.

Can I come with a friend or partner?

Yes you can. You can choose for a double bed in a shared room (budget option) or a private suit.

What is Bali like?

Bali is an island of Indonesia. It’s mostly hindu and becoming more and more popular. The beautiful rice fields, mountains and beaches make it a heaven for people loving nature. Besides nature it’s also a hotspot for artists, hippies, surfers, hipsters, celebrities and the rich. Each village and area attracts it’s own people making it possible to see Bali from a lot of different angles.

The area around the retreat (Canggu) is known for it’s excellent surf, beautiful nature and peacefulness. It is a nice getaway from the crowded areas in Kuta, which are more hectic and include a lot of tourism and partying. It’s the friendliness of the locals that make a lot of people want to come to Bali each year. We find it important to involve the local traditions and lifestyle in our retreat. Doing so creates an environment in which you can learn from them and they can learn from you resulting in a lot of good life moments for everyone.

Do I need a travel insurance?

We advise you to take a travel insurance. They will mostly cover medical and cancellation costs caused by things out of your control.
