ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

TamaHostel & Glamping is located in the province of Guanacaste, in the North Pacific of Costa Rica, near the community of Tamarindo. The hostel is just a 5-minute walk from the beach and downtown.

As for access to specific surf spots, there are many options, from the closest, a 10-minute walk away: the famous "Capitán Suizo" spot, ideal for intermediate and beginner surfers, to "Pico," frequented by more experienced surfers. The next closest options would be Playa Langosta or Playa Grande, mostly chosen by advanced and intermediate surfers, at a distance of around 20 minutes on foot or even shorter if you have transportation. All of these spots, it's worth noting, are part of the Las Baulas National Marine Park, protected thanks to the nesting and visitation of the majestic Leatherback Turtles.

Other beaches highly sought after by surfers and visitors in general are Playa Avellanas, Playa Negra, Playa Potrero, and many others, all easily accessible by car. TamaHostel offers various and attractive surf tours for its visitors.

Typically, our clientele ranges between 18 and 35 years old, mostly young adults. However, people of other age groups, as well as families and children, are always welcome at TamaHostel. Pets are only allowed for small, trained breeds. A prior application is required and must be approved before your planned visit.

We are a place to relax and feel at home. Music in public areas is played from 11 AM to 10 PM, allowing for rest for those who need it or want it.

At our hostel, most guests and all our staff communicate in English and Spanish.

TamaHostel began seven years ago when a local Italian-Costa Rican family took over the hostel. Through dedication, competitiveness, and the satisfaction of its visitors, it has established itself as one of the most established hostels in the area. It maintains the authenticity of its incredible murals and native garden of almond trees and other plants, as well as a perch for iguanas, squirrels, hummingbirds, and more.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING

TamaHostel & Glamping offers private rooms with private bathrooms, shared dormitories with a capacity of eight people each, both with air conditioning, and glamping accommodations for one or two people, all smoke-free. Among the public amenities offered are a saltwater pool, sun loungers, a relaxation area, hammocks, a fully equipped kitchen/dining room, high-speed internet, five shared showers and toilets, and private parking.

At TamaHostel, we support other local businesses by working with nearby cafes and restaurants, which offer excellent and delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner options within walking distance.

We also have a fully equipped kitchen ready for guests with special tastes or needs who wish to prepare their own meals. We offer complimentary coffee daily to all our guests.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

Our qualified instructors in a group of up to 4 participants will teach you the basics of surfing directly on Tamarindo Beach so you can then tackle medium-level waves either in Tamarindo or on the tour to Avellana beach.

Tamarindo has a dry tropical climate, with temperatures generally ranging between 28° and 36° Celsius, which influences the warmth of the ocean waters. It is known as the "Endless Summer," with the best sunsets in the region, sought after by all travelers looking to escape the winter cold of their home countries, as well as by domestic tourists who want to enjoy the sun and the absence of heavy rain.

The wind in this area of the North Pacific Ocean favors the creation of stable waves that become favorites for surfers of all levels, from inexperienced to advanced. Tamarindo is a multicultural community located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, where everyone is welcome. The local population is not only national but also made up of people from all over the world who, upon arriving here, fell in love with its nature, its people, and its sea, and decided to stay for the rest of their lives.

Arriving at Liberia International Airport

The best way to get to Tamarindo is to land at Liberia International airport at only a 1.5 hour drive from our location and our shuttle service will be waiting to pick you up. 

Arriving at San Jose International Airport

The other option is to arrive at San Jose International Airport and  connecting flight with a local airline SANSA (40minute)  to Tamarindo airport or take the bus (6hours) o private shuttle (5 hours)to Tamarindo 

Regarding medical and hospital services, there are many options for private clinics and even hospitals in case an emergency warrants it.
