ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

El Paredón is a small fishing village located on the wild pacific coast of Guatemala. This coastal town has miles of virtually untouched volcanic black sand beaches.

El Paredón is gradually creeping up on the list of the top surf destinations in Central America – and it’s definitely the best beach for surfing in Guatemala. With 14km of incredible volcanic black sand beaches, no crowds, and some of the biggest and most consistent waves in Guatemala – this is the place to be if you love to surf, or want to learn how.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING

At The Driftwood Surfer, we offer a variety of different accommodations to suit any traveler’s needs and budget. For the budget traveler we offer a cheap place to stay in the dorm, affordable private rooms with shared bathroom or luxury private rooms with private bathroom for couples or when you travel with friends. All of our rooms are fitted with comfortable beds, electrical outlets, and complimentary air conditioning from 7:00 PM to 9:30 AM so you can have a cool night’s sleep. 

We’ve done our best to make sure that we have everything you could possibly need during your stay with us! Some of the hostel’s facilities include: 

- 4 shared bathroom blocks fitted with open-air showers
- 2 fully stocked bars (including a swim-up beachfront pool bar!)
- Table tennis & a pool table
- A licensed panoramic rooftop restaurant serving up breakfast, lunch and our delicious all you can eat buffet-style dinner
- Space for parking
- Beachfront space fitted with hammocks, a volleyball court and a palapa.

At The Driftwood Surfer, we have 2 fully stocked bars so we can guarantee you won’t have to wait long for a drink. We have our upstairs bar with panoramic views of the gorgeous black sand beaches and our swim up pool bar – so you don’t have to stop tanning to grab a drink. We have a wide range of beverages on offer, including – a variety of beers, mixer drinks, wine, cocktails, non alcoholic beverages and smoothies. Our pool bar is open from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, and our upstairs bar is open from 7:00 am until midnight.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

We offer the cheapest surf lessons for beginners and the more advanced surfer with professional and experienced teachers. For only Q120 per hour you will learn how to surf and have an unforgettable experience. Just ask at reception and we’ll schedule you in for a lesson!

If you don’t have your own, we’ve got a whole rack of surfboards up for rent and some professional teachers ready to show you some pointers. 

Just about every day we have some sort of cool activity running at the hostel. When we have a resident yoga teacher, we run morning classes – if not, we have a gorgeous ocean view yoga deck and a bunch of mats for you to zen out in the morning. If you’re feeling active, we have evening volleyball games on our beachfront court. Each night after dinner, we host an activity in our upstairs bar to keep the fun going. Activities like karaoke, bingo, pub quiz, and power hour – just to name a few. We also regularly give out some jaw-dropping prizes like bar tabs, dinners for 2, and a night stay at some of our partner businesses throughout Guatemala. If you want to get out of the hostel and explore the area – we have a long list of cool activities you can do around town:

The town itself is made up of sand roads, friendly locals, and small outdoor comedores serving up delicious, fresh seafood. El Paredón is the surfers’ paradise, the vacationers’ oasis, and the Instagrammers’ dream.

Ways to get to the camp

PUBLIC SHUTTLE (DIRECT)

From Antigua: The shuttles normally leave at 9:30 am and 2:00 pm every day and they take about 2.5 hours to get to us.

From Lake Atitlan: Shuttles depart every day from Panajachel at 1:00 pm and generally take around 3 hours.

From Guatemala City: Shuttles depart every day except Tuesday from the following places, you can check them out on your maps app:

– 7:30 AM – Gasolinera Puma, Proceres zona 10
– 8:00 AM – Miraflores Mall
– 8:30 AM – Sankris Mall
