ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS

Surf school Tribo do Mar is located in Consolação, on the south beach of Peniche. This small peaceful village has several surf breaks on its doorstep. Consolação has more to offer than just good waves, though. It is the perfect place to enjoy nature, diverse and stunning beaches, great local food and beautiful sunsets. Next to being famous for its waves, the Peniche area is also known for its gastronomy. There are many great local dishes to taste, many fish to eat. With several bars and clubs around, you don't have to worry about having to go to sleep early in Peniche. From our base several trips can be made. A visit to Óbidos, a medieval village for example, to the island of Berlengas, a natural reserve full of animal life. Consolação is also only 45 minutes away from Lisbon and it's airport. There is a highway to Peniche and from Lisbon there is a good bus connection.

SURF COURSE DETAILS

The surf classes are given in small groups. Next to beginner courses we also offer surf training for advanced surfers. The surf classes consist of theoretical explanations on the beach and lots of practice in the water. We use video analysis so you can see your performance in the water. 

All teachers are licensed surf instructors and experienced surfers. Being local surfers we know exactly where to go to catch the best waves of the day. And that´s where we go. 

Surf school Tribo do Mar puts safety first. Each teacher works with a maximum of 6 persons at a time. We devote a lot of attention to explanation of rip tides, surf rules and safety in the water. 

SURF TRIPS

If you are an experienced surfer and you want to surf the best breaks of the day join us on a surf trip. Instead of renting a car, you can be guided to the best waves in the area. You might find some hidden gems too…

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Tribo Do Mar also give lessons in Stand Up Paddleboarding in the area around Peniche, Berlenga Island and Óbidos Lagoon.

MORE INFO, HOW TO GET THERE & FAQ

Peniche is known for its consistent and high quality waves and its numerous spot options. It's peninsular shape is a guarantee for offshore surf conditions. Surfing every day is a common pleasure, in winter and in summer. We have waves for every surfer, beginner or pro. It's truly a surfing paradise.

Seasonal conditions

Peniche has a mild climate all your round. In spring expect air temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius, in summer around 28 degrees, autumn 20 degrees and in winter around 15 degrees.

If you are an experienced surfer and want to catch big waves, we recommend spring, autumn and winter time. Due to spring tides we also get big swells in August. In principle there is always a suitable beach for beginners found all year round.

In spring, summer and autumn we surf with a 3/2 mm wetsuit, in winter with a 4/3mm wetsuit. Since the water stays relatively fresh during summer (around 20 degrees) we recommend using a wetsuit all year round.

JOURNEY

Ways to get to the camp

The nearest airport is Lisbon airport.

By car: 
From the airport, get the A8 in the direction of Leiria. Take exit 14 to Peniche. Drive to Peniche on the IP6. Once getting to the first roundabout of Peniche, take the 3rd exit to Praia da Consolação. Surf school Tribo do Mar (meeting point) is in the center of Consolação and indicated with signs. 

By bus: 
Take the airport bus to bus station ´Sete Rios´. Please ask at the information point at the airport where this bus stops. You can also take a taxi to bus station ´Sete Rios´, this should cost around 10 euro. From ´Sete Rios´ there is a direct connection to Peniche. Please write an email to the Tribo do mar Surfschool for the bus timetable. Note that buses normally only run until 19.30h.

Transfer:
We arrange a taxi to pick you up at the airport to take you to Consolação. Costs: 80€ per ride 90€ in the night or weekend. Note that arranging a taxi yourself at the airport is more expensive.
