Don’t go on the trip if your a veggie Don’t book this trip if you are vegetarian or vegan. Before I booked the trip I informed frank I was vegetarian, and reminded him a further 2 more times before the trip started.
Once onboard it was apparent that little to no effort had been made to accommodate my dietary requirements. 90% of the meals had meat or fish in them, and I was only given a vegetarian alternative 4 times. One of those meals tasted of fish so I didn’t eat it, the other I was violently sick afterwards. Needless to say IThe boat ran out of fruit for breakfast after about 5 days even though we docked on land to get more water, the food wasn’t topped up.

Seit Anfang / Mitte 1990 besuchen Surfer die Mentawai-Inseln, um unberührten Regenwald und hervorragende Wellen zu erleben. Die Mentawai-Inseln sind so ein großartiger Ort zum Surfen mit klassischen Wellen, die in kristallklarem und warmem Wasser brechen. Was könnte man mehr wollen? Die einzige Möglichkeit, die vielen Wellen der Mentawai-Inseln zu überwinden und sich von den Mücken fern zu halten, ist nur mit dem Boot. Boote geben Ihnen Freiheit und Beweglichkeit.
Hier gibt es Hunderte von "Weltklasse" -Riff- und Strandpausen, die es zu einer der am meisten von den Surfen besuchten Regionen der Welt machen. Die meisten Spots variieren in der Intensität für alle Surf-Level, was sie zu einem idealen Surf-Urlaubsort macht.
Unser guter Freund, der Südindische Ozean, produziert die Wellen, die die Inseln von Februar bis November bei 3 bis 15 ft durchgehend pumpen, und manchmal größer!
Du kommst zu den Mentawai's, und wirst surfen können! Die ruhigen Winde sorgen dafür, dass die ankommenden Wellen immer aufgereiht und von sehr hohem Standard sind.

What size boards should I bring and how many?
3 boards is generally enough: your normal shorty, mid (say 6’6 – 6’8) and a gun (7’0) just in case a few thick ones come through whilst we’re out there. If you feel you need to bring more it would be wise to double up on your shortboard. A note on glass jobs: if you are getting boards made especially for the trip, it is a good idea to go for a mid weight glass job. Nothing worse than snapping your brand new featherweight shooter on the first day!
What if I hurt myself?
In the first instance, your skipper holds a St Johns Senior First Aid Certificate. Further assistance can be reached via use of the satfone +870 776 44 0873; we have the ability to consult direct with doctors in Australia or your own GP. Finally in the slim chance that you would need to be evacuated out, your travel insurance will cover you.
What communications are available on board?
We communicate with other boats and shore bases in Padang via HF and VHF marine radio. The sat phone +870 776 44 0873 is a Byru Marine model and operates via the stable ACES satellite network. It’s a good idea to note the sat phone number from our contact page and leave it with someone at home in case you need to be contacted.
How many waves do you surf in one day?
Depends on swell, winds, movements of other boats in the area and how fit you are! Some days you could easily find yourself having 3 sessions at one location. Other times it is possible to surf 3 different waves in a day.
Is it a long way between locations?
In parts of the Northern area you will find 4 surfable waves in less than a mile radius. Other times it is a few hours steaming between breaks, most of which we do at night.
What clothes should I bring?
As little as possible. You will be onboard for nearly the whole duration of your trip and generally wearing a pair of boardies and a t-shirt (if your are a guy that is!)
