ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

The Barbados Surf School is completely mobile! This means we travel to the spot with the most ideal conditions to suit your ability. We offer surfing in Barbados for beginners as well as more experienced students.

All lessons take place on the south coast of Barbados where there are a number of surf spots suited to beginners. If required, transportation is provided to the beach.

The Windsurf School is located in Oistins Bay in the south central part of the island where the calm waters and consistent cross shore winds make it an ideal spot to learn the basics, as well as advanced techniques. 

The usual meeting spot is Surfer's Cafe in Oistins on the south coast, but we do also collect from nearby hotels and accommodation. 

From water baby to waterman! Having grown up in a house by the beach there was only one path in life for young Bodie and learning to swim at the same time he was learning to walk was evidence of that.

However his real passion always lay with surf/windsurfing and his innate ability as an instructor. Such that within a week of ending his university studies he was working as the windsurf center's chief instructor!

He is presently the only Royal Yachting Association (RYA) certified instructor actively teaching in Barbados.

Its now been over 35 yrs since that summer day he first got on a board and sped off to the horizon and Bodie has lost none of his passion for the sport. Especially teaching kids, as he is living proof of what a positive and profound effect surf can have on a child's life. Bodie's daughters Kealani and Kiri both caught their first wave with daddy as infants and were standing on the board riding tiny waves when they were 3 yrs old!

Barbados offers a wide range of accommodation to suit everyone's needs. At SOS we always try to use our local knowledge and years of experience in the tourism industry to assist you with finding your perfect holiday home.
The properties listed are just a few recommended by us for persons whose holiday is going to be centered around watersports and surfing in particular. However, there is a huge selection of properties/hotels that will cater to everyone, from the lone student backpacker to the large group of friends/family.
?What the properties we recommend all have in common is being conveniently located close to the coastline of the island, near to all the best beginner/intermediate or advanced surf breaks so you spend less time driving and more time surfing!

The Cotton House
The Cotton House is located at Freights Bay and sleeps up to 9, ideal for large groups!

East View Cottage
East View Cottage is a cosy 2 bedroom home with air conditioning and spectacular views of Bathsheba and the East coast!

Blue Ocean Cottage
Blue Ocean Cottage has seven apartments near Silver Sands.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

At Bodie's School of Surf, we specialize in private beginner surf lessons in Barbados for individuals, couples, families and groups of friends. We also offer the option to join an open group surfing lesson. ?The entire surf lesson is tailored towards your personal needs, from setting up the time of the lesson to adjusting the teaching methods used, in order to help students advance as fast as possible.

Individual attention is the key and so groups are kept small to facilitate this philosophy.

The surf school is mobile in order to always make use of the most ideal locations and conditions but the surf lessons are generally held at the famous "Freights Bay" in the southern-most part of the island.

?Freights Bay is a world class surf spot for beginners and intermediates due to the excellent easy going conditions, long gentle waves and the chance to surf alongside the many turtles that inhabit the bay.

Calypso Catamaran Cruise
The best catamaran cruise in Barbados! This small catamaran has a fantastic crew and they'll take you to the best swimming and snorkeling spots on the island. A must-do when visiting Barbados. 

El Tigre Catamaran

All Surf Lessons are 2 hours long and include the following: 

Transportation to and from the beach from a meeting point in Oistins aptly called Surfers Cafe. We also offer collection from hotels and guest houses in the Oistins area.  

Rash vests to help minimize sunburn and chaffing of the chest, stomach and arms

Safety Analysis of the prevailing surf conditions

The "beach lesson" focusing on paddling and standing techniques while highlighting safety and awareness in the water

Assistance paddling out to the break and catching waves

Individual feedback after every wave caught

Introduction: All of our beginner windsurfing lessons in Barbados begin with learning about your gear, safety, awareness in the water and a briefing on the prevailing conditions

Beach lesson: How to handle your equipment, learning the "start position", the "secure position" and the "sailing position" 

Windsurfing Lesson: Average 90 mins of water time with your instructor by your side all the way

Fresh Water Shower: Access to an outdoor fresh water shower and secure changing area

Beach Umbrella: We will also provide a beach umbrella for your cheering squad if required
