The Salty Pelican Yoga & Surf Retreat in Ericeira Portugal, is located right above the heart of Ericeira, just steps away from the beach, town centre and bus station. So don’t stress about being too far away from anything and all the tourist sights, as everything is within walking distance from The Salty Pelican. We have done you a favour by locating at the perfect position with incredible sunset and sea views.  

You’ll find an interesting array of cafés, museums, shops, bars, music venues and various attractions all within close walking distance from The Salty Pelican. Need a restaurant, money or groceries, you will find an ATM machine, supermarket and variety of restaurants and cafes just a few minutes walk away.

The Salty Pelican yoga & surf retreat was started 6 years ago in Cascais, Portugal by 3 friends who spent the last 20 years collectively backpacking and working their way around the world. We have created our yoga & surf retreats based on inspirations we have found along our journey and added them with a touch of our own.

In 2020… Just weeks after the grand opening in Sri Lanka…. realising The Salty Pelican had some great momentum, we decided to jump straight into opening the next project in the beautiful sleepy seaside fishing town of Ericeira on Portugal’s sunny west coast. Although the Covid-19 pandemic would eventually have the final say and push back our ambitious opening plans considerably later till Easter 2021. Everything eventually fell into place slowly and the biggest lesson we learnt from 2020, was to just to have a little more patience.

The Salty Pelican Yoga & Surf Retreat in Ericeira was designed and built very recently.. So you'll find everything new, comfortable, modern, secure, clean and also very central. Our retreat has a combination of deluxe spacious shared rooms and twin rooms for over 40 guests. Most rooms have private ensuite bathrooms and a private balcony/terrace overlooking the infinity pool and endless sea views.

 We offer many great design features at our retreat, including a cosy open plan living area which opens directly out onto the swimming pool deck, covered communal dining area, relaxing sea view sun decks with bean bags & sun loungers to unwind on all day, poolside bar & restaurant with an all day menu, indoor yoga studio, cinema room, wellness centre, tourist & tours information desk, laundry room, FREE WiFi, delicious FREE buffet breakfast daily, premium FLOWT surfboard range available, clean fresh linen and much more.

Don't skip our FREE delicious & healthy breakfast buffet served daily at our poolside dining areas with sea view terraces. Including freshly baked breads, locally baked sweet pastries, selection of cereals & muesli, boiled eggs, cheeses, chorizo, sliced vegetables, freshly cut fruits, dried fruits, mixed seeds & nuts and natural yogurt. Grab an organic tea, fresh cup of coffee or a glass of our cinnamon & lemon infused water and really enjoy the glorious morning sunshine and sea views for days.
Every Wednesday & Sunday evening, The Salty Pelican crew cooks up a yummy Seafood BBQ including delicious grilled vegetarian options also. Every Monday & Friday evening, we  gather our guests together around our beautiful communal dining table to taste a variety of different great tasting local tapas dishes

After breakfast you have the option to head out to the beach for our morning surf lesson. Our surf school is run by a team of certified instructors who follow a very unique approach in teaching. They will make sure that you learn the proper surf techniques and have loads of fun whilst participating in each lesson. The unique geography of our location means we not only have rideable waves almost every day of the year but that we can almost always find a wave to suit everyone.

This picturesque and laid-back place of cobbled streets and narrow lanes, will steal your heart and maybe that’s the magic of this place…. Just a 5 minute walk from our retreat in Ericeira, you have Praia dos Pescadores, the perfect beach for catching some sun and swimming in the calm protected bay.... Ericeira is the perfect spot to learn how to surf with the whole coastline offering a seemingly endless amount of surf-able waves and ever-changing scenery, culminating in the beachside paradise of Ribeira d'Ilhas beach. If you are dreaming about a white sandy beaches and clear blue waters in a peaceful surrounding – this might be it! Located just 5 minutes away from The Salty Pelican, here you will find a very nice beach bar creating a more upbeat ambience which is famed for its tasty food & drinks. Aside from the beautiful beach and delicious food, it’s the perfect beach to learn how to surf. Marvel at the unspoilt sand dunes and untamed waves and really enjoy this special paradise with a nice drink, perfect beanbag lounging and some of the most spectacular sunsets on offer in Portugal.

Exploring Ericeira is a voyage of discovery… On the one hand, there is the endless amounts of beaches where tall cliffs alternate with small sandy coves and surf beaches that have a distinct chilled surfer vibe about them… Then there’s the joy of discovering the back streets of town centre where you’ll find hidden whitewashed houses, vegan cafes, lively bars, grilled sardines, specialist coffee shops, cool bars, fusion restaurants, surfers from all over the world and funky surf shops. You can sit on the terrace of the cosy beach bar with a cup of coffee and a light lunch, feeling the ocean breeze on a warm afternoon and do absolutely nothing.

Our proximity to Lisbon, Portugal’s enchanting capital city, is just an easy 35 minute trip away..... Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city. Spend a day or half day exploring the city, rooftop cafes with wonderful views and end the day in the abundant amount of cosy cool bars, clubs and restaurants that litter the city.

The Unesco heritage town Sintra, just a short 30 minute bus trip away, with it’s lush nature and beautiful palaces of the Sintra Natural park... Ericeira a perfect destination for your next yoga and surf holiday.

Ways to get to the camp

FROM LISBON AIRPORT
Take an uber or catch the underground Metro ( first the red and then the green line ) from Lisbon airport to the bus terminal Lisboa Campo Grande, which takes about 10 minutes. Buses run every 90 minutes to Ericeira, start at 8am, and finish at 11pm. It takes up to 75 minutes to reach Ericeira and express buses that take just 45 minutes. Exit the bus at the last stop BEFORE Ericeira's bus terminal for closest walk to our property.

PRIVATE TRANSFER FROM THE AIRPORT
We can book you a direct private air conditioned transfer from the airport arrivals gate straight to The Salty Pelican. Please send an email to book.

FROM LISBON CENTRE
Take either a bus, Uber or metro from Lisbon centre to the bus terminal Lisboa Campo Grande, which takes about 10 minutes. Buses to Ericeira depart every 90 minutes, start at 8am and finish at 11pm. It takes 75 minutes to reach Ericeira from Campo Grande and express buses that take just 45 minutes..

ARRIVE BY CAR
If you’re arriving by car, the fastest way to arrive in Ericeira is by taking highway A8 and A21 and Its an easy 35 minute drive.
