The 9 most important facts about surfing in the region
1. General information
The Moroccan coast is especially popular in the European winter! The North African country attracts surfers from all over the world mainly because of the top conditions, the pleasant climate and good travel conditions. Even in the "cold season" you can enjoy warm and relaxed days here during the day besides surfing, which is one of the reasons why Morocco attracts so many holidaymakers. While in other countries rain, wind and temperatures at zero degrees decorate the wintry months, 5 hours away by plane you experience 20 degrees and pure sunshine. In this country you can immerse yourself in a foreign culture, learn about fascinating customs and gain new life experiences. As you can see, Morocco is home to a different culture than Europe - but you're sure to enjoy the oriental surfing feeling!
2. What time of year is it to surf in Morocco?
In general, you can surf in Morocco all year round. It should be noted, however, that in summer there can be an increased trade wind which affects the quality of the waves. As the trade winds blow from west to east, the point breaks are often destroyed by an onshore wind. However, this does not always have to happen. In the winter months, things turn around so that offshore conditions prevail. The quality of the waves improves and point breaks are not destroyed. So if you want to go to Morocco to surf, you should make the month of travel dependent on your surfing level! Basically: In summer, especially surf beginners find good conditions for learning to surf - winter, on the other hand, makes all surfers happy.
3. Surf spots for beginners in Morocco
Basically, you can say that the towns of
Taghazout,
Tamraght and
Essaouira all offer surf spots that are designed for beginners. Plage Taghazout is located south of
Taghazout and is a two-minute walk from the centre of the village. This spot is located on a sandy beach where there are a lot of waves to surf, depending on the surf bank. At the beginning of this beach is the Panoramas surf spot, which is also very popular for beginner waves. This is evident from the fact that many of the surf schools are located here. It is about two kilometres to Devils Rock, where you have a free choice of spots. At almost all tides you can surf at Crocos. This spot offers you waves that break over rocks but end in a sandbank. After that you come to the spot Devils Rock where you will find a right wave that breaks along the rocks. Especially at mid tide (when there is little wind), Devils can be a long beautiful wave.

4. Advanced surf spots in Morocco
Coming to Morocco to improve your technique, work on your turns and surf longer than the usual five second waves? You definitely decided on the right place! In Morocco, you will find many long point breaks as well as steep and fast waves, which will make it possible for you to achieve your goal. Boilers is the northernmost surf spot in
Taghazout and an absolute highlight. There are particularly fast waves here. Speed and courage are definitely required, but this spot has a high fun factor. Next door is Myteries, the wave there is not too steep and breaks beautifully along the coast. You can really work on your turns here. Myteries runs best at low tide - mid tide. Anchor Point is probably the most famous surf spot on the coast, not without reason. The wave doesn't break too fast and the barrels are great to surf. Here you will experience a unique feeling!
Anza is a little to the south and is also one of the most popular spots on the Moroccan coast. You are sure to have fun at all the surf spots and the waves in Morocco will not disappoint you.

Surf + Yoga
Not only surfing is one of the most popular trend sports in the world, but yoga is also increasingly practised in our society and stands, above all, for bringing body and mind into harmony. Yoga can be wonderfully combined with surfing because, depending on the practice, it promotes your strength and stability on the one hand, and on the other hand also stretches body regions that are particularly stressed during surfing. So it's no wonder that yoga is already an integral part of many surf camps and can be done both as preparation and as relaxation after surfing. In many camps, such as
The Yogi Surfer and
Blue Mind Marocco, you can enjoy your yoga session on the roof terraces typical of Morocco or on the beach with the sound of the waves and the sunset, thus giving the day a perfect ending.
