2. General information about Andalusia

Surfing in Andalusia means a mix of Spanish flair and a wave for everyone. Andalusia is located in the mild south of Spain, with most of its coastline on the Mediterranean Sea. You can have fun here all year round and experience unforgettable moments. Most of the spots are suitable for all levels and offer a fantastic backdrop. From snow-covered high mountains to dreamy sandy beaches, everything is there to make your heart beat faster. There are plenty of surf spots to choose from, from beach breaks to point breaks, there's pretty much everything which surf beginners and pros like to have under their surfboards. Escape the grey winter and enjoy the time under the sun of southern Spain!

3. The best time to travel

From absolute beginners to experienced surf cracks: Every wave fan will get their money's worth here. Basically, you can say that the best time to surf in Andalusia is from September to June. In summer (July, August), the chances of waves are increasingly rare, but the beaches are more crowded. Every now and then, of course, there may be a small swell during this period. You can learn to surf in many places in Europe, but in Andalusia the sun takes its winter break with mostly mild temperatures - especially in spring and autumn you can enjoy the warm weather, while the rest of Europe is rather grey and wet. Another big advantage for us surfers - and a good argument for a surf trip to Andalusia!

4. The best surf spots in Andalusia

Beaches like Los Lances in Tarifa, Caños de Meca in Barbate or La Fontanilla in Conil are famous among surf lovers. Many beach breaks and mostly relaxed waves are perfect for surf beginners to try their first attempts at line-up. A very popular surf spot is Playa el Palmar. It offers waves for every level and some good beach breaks. The months of November to May are considered the best time to visit. If you want to surf directly in Andalusia, you will find some very good spots directly between Tarifa and Cadiz. Beach breaks, reefs, right and left waves - there is something for every taste and every surf level. Here is just a small selection of spots:

Barbate

Quiet village with point and beach breaks. Both only work with larger swells, but then with barrel potential. If something is going on here, check out the challenging Caños de la Meca reef break!

Cabo Roche

A small settlement between Chiclana and Conil with a nice bay. The beach break gets stronger waves than the neighbouring villages and is relatively sheltered from the dreaded Levante. There are also a number of surf camps here, which offer plenty of fun for beginners and experts alike.

Playa de Los Lances

One of the most perfect places in Andalusia to learn surfing in a cool surf camp.

Conil

One of the most beautiful beaches in Andalusia. Long beach break which produces good waves in big swells and gives you a lot of fun. You'll find some cool surf camps here too.

El Palmar

Surf epicenter in Andalusia, extensive beach break with reliable sand bars and several peaks. The spot is popular with all levels of surfers and will not disappoint.

5. Water temperature

The water temperature only drops to 16-18 degrees in winter. This means that your neoprene does not need to be thicker than 4/3 mm. In summer, the temperature rises to 24 degrees. Here, a shorty or a surf bikini is completely sufficient.

6. Transport

The cheapest way is to fly directly to Seville or Malaga, but there are also cheap flights to Gibraltar. From the destination airport, it's best to take a rental car to get to the coast and be mobile on site. If you want to travel by bus, the nearest bus station is in Conil. Of course, Andalusia is also perfect for arriving in your own car or van. However, most camps also offer airport transport, making it easy for you to arrive in comfort and without stress.

7. Price range

The price range for surf camps in Andalusia is between 140€ - 539€ per week. So there is something for everyone and nothing stands in the way of your surfing adventure. If you have any questions about the prices, feel free to contact us!

Camps that leave nothing to be desired

You want to be flexible on holiday and organise every day according to your mood? At Camino Surf Caños de Meca, you can not only work out during the surf lessons, but also benefit from a large garden with a chill-out area, surfer bar and many other offers. If you would like to cater for yourself during your stay or try out the numerous restaurants on site, you can do so quite informally at the O´Neil Surfcamp or Oceano Surf Camps. Many tapas bars offer Spanish delicacies for little money. In addition, a surfing holiday in Andalusia can also be combined with skateboarding, because camps like the Homies Surf & Skate Camp and the Take Surf Hostel have specialised in exactly that.

Camps where you can relax and unwind

El Palmar is a charming little town with a long white sandy beach that has been spared from mass tourism. Here you can really relax in the sunshine and with perfect waves. Some surf camps, such as the Nexo Surf House and the Bagus Surf camp, have adapted to the special atmosphere here by pampering their guests with yoga or massages in addition to surf lessons. Your well-being and a relaxing time-out are the focus of your trip. Culinary pampering is not neglected in El Palmar either, as La Luz Surf and the a-frame Surfcamp serve freshly prepared and delicious dishes every day. Whether you're travelling alone, as a couple or with the family, everyone is welcomed here with open arms.

The full surfing experience

In Tarifa there are several camps which, due to the optimal conditions, have not only focused on classic surfing but also on kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddling and other water sports. For example, you have the option of spending your surfing holiday in the modern Tarifa Kite Hostel, where you can end the day after surfing with other hostel residents while enjoying beautiful sunsets on the roof. If you like camping and would like to come with a group, the Chicken Loop Kite Club is the place for you. There you can choose whether you want to take lessons in groups or take advantage of private coaching to get the most out of your surfing stay. At Kitesurf Tarifa and 3Sixty Kite School Tarifa, everyone is guaranteed to find their dream holiday, because here you can choose between different types of accommodation - whether hostel, flat or hotel - according to your budget and individual wishes.
