1. Your surf vacation on Tenerife
Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary Islands. It also offers mild climate all year long and perfect conditions for surfing. Whether you are a beginner, an advanced surfer or even a professional surfer - you will find your wave among the long point breaks, fast reef breaks and crisp beach breaks. Both the north and the south of the island get good swells all year long and fulfill any surfer wishes. Apart from surfing, Tenerife also offers a wide range of other activities such as kite surfing and windsurfing. There are wonderful places to discover and especially the evergreen north should be explored sufficiently. Its natural diversity is spectacular. The island of eternal spring is also super inexpensive. These are our reasons for a surf holiday on Tenerife:
5. It is very cheap
2. The best time to travel
While considering when to go to Tenerife, we recommend you to take your surfing level into account. The island is optimal for beginner. If you are an experienced surfer, the best time to travel is between October and March. You will find good waves for you all year round, but it is during these months that the swells are reliable due to recurring storms on the Atlantic.
3. Climate and water temperature
Due to this year-round mild climate, the water temperatures hardly fluctuate. With water temperatures of 19° between February and April and 23° from August to October, a 3/2 mm wetsuit is enough for even surfing in winter. In late summer and early autumn, you can even go surfing in board shorts or a surf bikini.

5. The best surf spots
Playa del Socorro
This surf spot is located on the north coast of the island in Los Realejos. It is considered to be one of the most reliable surf spots on Tenerife, as there are good waves all year round. You should either go here as an experienced surfer or try surfing with a surf instructor.
Playa Jardín And Playa Martiánez
On the north coast of Tenerife you will find the best conditions for beginners and intermediates. The two surf spots are located in the region of Puerto de la Cruz. The entry into the water is easy and you will see a beautiful black sand beach. In addition, there is usually no drift and the waves are rather small.
Playa San Juan in Bajamar
You will mostly meet locals here. As there is no sandy beach, you should be careful when getting in and out. The waves at this spot are mostly medium and therefore good for experienced surfers.
Playa de los Troches
Here you will usually find waves even when there are hardly any somewhere else. However, the conditions are challenging, so beginners are better off not surfing here.
Almaciga and Benijo
This surf spot is located next to Taganana. Due to the strong drift, beginners should not get into the water here. However, if you already know how to surf, this is the right place for you!
Igueste de San Andrés
When conditions are good, you will find left-breaking waves here. These are especially liked by the locals. You should definitely surf here if you want to have a natural landscape around you.
Porís de Abona
The spot is suitable for beginners as well as advanced surfers. There is a surf school where you can rent equipment and book a surf camp.
Playa de las Américas
Playa de las Américas is probably the most famous surf spot on Tenerife. There are many surf schools here and the beaches are easily accessible via the long beach promenade. The waves at Playa del Bunker (El Guincho) and Playa de las Américas are especially recommended here.

6. The most beautiful places
Teide
At 3718 m, Mount Teide is the highest point in Spain and the third highest volcano in the world. If you are on Tenerife and want to explore the island off the surfboard, you should definitely visit the Teide. You can reach it in two ways: By cable railway or by foot. In both cases, the landscape and rock formations around the Teide will amaze you. You will also see the well-known rock "Roque Cinchado".
Puerto de la Cruz
Vilaflor
If you decide to do a full hike to Paisaje Lunar, we recommend that you take time to explore the municipality of Vilaflor. The village of Vilaflor is one of the most beautiful places in Tenerife - and it is even the highest in Spain. It is a testament to tranquillity and culture, far removed from the trappings of the tourist centres and located in the Parque Natural de la Corona Forestal. You can visit the Casa del Marqués museum house, the old water mill and discover vast vineyard landscapes.
San Andrés
San Andrés is located in the north-east of Tenerife. The special thing about the village is not only the beautiful beach Playa Las Teresitas, which is right next to it. The beach was made in the 70s with sand from the Sahara. The fact that the colorful houses are completely built on a hillside also speaks for itself. One of the sights here is the Catholic church, which was built in 1505 and is one of the oldest churches in the Canary Islands. There are also numerous bars and restaurants here. The fishing village invites you to enjoy fresh fish with a glass of wine.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife
The capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife has a beautiful old town. In it you can find, for example, the Church of the Conception of the Virgin Mary from the colonial period and the Museum of Nature and Human. The Plaza de España square invites you to go shopping, as it is directly connected to the famous Calle Castillo shopping street. The port city is bursting with Art Nouveau architecture and enchants with avenues, sculptures, monuments and beautiful green spaces. It is home to the largest shipping port in Spain. The carnival in Santa Cruz is also a particular source of amazement. The city offers many restaurants and bars, but also flea markets and, for example, the market Nuestra Senora de Africa. Here you can find many exotic foods.
