This cove also has beautiful sea turtles that come up to say hello to you while you’re learning how to surf! You should know a lot about your surf instructor before choosing the surf school for you and your family! It’s important to make sure they know what they are doing, if they are permitted, and have experience teaching beginners how to surf.  Most importantly, does the surf school provide a safe atmosphere for your family or yourself learn how to surf?

With all my lifeguard experience over the years here in Hawaii, I have been professionally trained in how to teach people ocean safety and how and where to enjoy the ocean safely.  The winter months can have big surf but there are safe, small wave coves that are still perfect for beginners. So, before you choose a Hawaii surf school please take your time to learn more about your surf instructor!  My dogs and I  would love to show you and your family where and how to surf safely here in beautiful Hawaii and also come into close encounters with some sea turtles! My sweet golden retrievers Kaya and Coco are with me every day helping me teach you how to surf! We hope to be surfing with you soon!

Aloha, everyone! My name is Sunset Suzy. Thanks for visiting my website! Please let me tell you a little about myself! I was the only female lifeguard here on the north shore of Oahu  and have been teaching surfing now to beginners for over 25 years here on the beautiful islands of Hawaii!  I also played a surfer girl In the Movie “Blue Crush” and was a stunt women for “Bay Watch Hawaii”. With my experience in lifeguarding and ocean knowledge, I started a surfing school to help beginners learn the awesome thrill of surfing! Thankfully, here on the North Shore of Oahu, we have a super fun small wave that provides perfect beginner waves for you to learn on!

Sunset Suzy’s Hawaiian Surf School offers private surf lessons on Oahu for beginners and intermediate surfers. Often taking her students to the lesser-known or “secret” surf spots to avoid the tourist crowds, Sunset Suzy can take you to the best possible location to complement your skill level and the current weather and ocean conditions. A private surf lesson on Oahu ensures you receive the highest possible ratio of student to teacher attention during your Oahu surf lesson. If you want to get the most out of your limited time surfing, a private surf lesson on Oahu is the way to go. Suzy can meet you where you are with your skill level and work with you on a beginner level or more advanced. We work on timing, catching your own waves, popping up, turning, wave selection, body position, and catching some bigger waves.

The North Shore of Oahu is home to hundreds of Hawaiian green sea turtles who share many of the same beaches Sunset Suzy’s Hawaiian Surf School chooses for beginner surf lesson on Oahu. The turtles, and beginner surf students generally opt for sheltered bays protected from open ocean waves with plenty of soft sand where one can easily drag themselves out of the water to nap in the sunshine. Turtle tours are $50 per person and include a two-hour guided tour of where our beautiful Hawaiian sea turtles like to swim. We have some great secret beaches where we always find our turtles basking in the sun or taking a nice swim near our beautiful shore lines. We do provide masks and snorkels, snacks, and water and some amazing close encounters with Hawaiian sea turtles you will never forget!

Alot of people ask me over the last 30 years, Is the north shore a Safe place to surf for beginners? Well that is a complicated question, the real answer is Yes! And no! Surfing for beginners on the north shore of Oahu can be extremely dangerous and tumultuous event if you don’t know where to go. We have one of the most dangerous coastlines in the world here in the wintertime. The surf can get gigantic and even the expert surfers have drowned before.  So why not really know and get familiar where you can surf as a beginner on the north shore of Oahu.  It could save your life and give you the thrill of a lifetime!
