Surfing conditions on Lanzarote
Lanzarote is also called “Hawaii of Europe” for a good reason. There are numerous surf spots for all surf levels and pleasant temperatures all year round. The average temperature is around 26 degrees Celsius in summer and 22 degrees Celsius in winter. The water temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius in winter and 23 degrees Celsius in summer. So you don't necessarily need a wetsuit in summer, but in the winter months we recommend a 3.2 mm wetsuit. Lanzarote has consistent waves all year round but the best time, especially for advanced surfers, is from September to April when the waves are bigger and the winds are not as strong. Beginners can come here all year round as there are always some great and usable waves along the island and surrounding islands. Famara is a surf town in the northwest of the island. Here you will find numerous surf shops and surf camps, especially near the beach of Famara. Without a doubt it´s a perfect place to learn surfing, but there are also big waves for intermediate surfers. The beach belongs to the Natural Park of the Biosphere.
