ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

Welcome to Azores Surf Co & By the Sea surf house.
We are living and surfing on Sao Miguel island since 2006.
The unique landscape with a mix of lush green and black lava fading into the ocean blue makes this island so special.
Here you can escape from the velocity of modern life while you won’t miss it’s comfort.
The island is large enough for you to explore its beautiful nature and small enough that you can reach every surfspot whenever you want.

Ola, I’m David and i’m a natural born surfer from Lisbon.
I started surfing when i was 6 years old and i loved to travel in my own country and the islands of portugal. In my teenage time i start to explore the world and i was fascinated from the diferent cultures, the food, the people i met. But it took me to Sao Miguel island for which i felt in love to live and surf here.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING

We are offering three types of accommodation. Our main Surfhouse “By The Sea” is the place to be. Its located with a stunning overview of the Ribeira beach where you can enter the ocean in a stone throw away. Here everything is neraby, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets etc.
The “By the Beach house” is located close to the popular Pópulo beach. This coastline is south facing and it´s coming alive during the summer month when the south swells are on.

Private kitchen available in the facilities.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

We are offering you the highest quality surfclasses of all azores islands.
We want to help you however your skills are to improve them to get the most out of your surfing and your holidays. You can chose in the wide variety of:

Surfboards & Wetsuits. In our renting pool you can find all kinds of surfboards:
From softboards to hardboards, from shortboards to big wave boards, from minimalibus to longboards, from oldschool retro shapes to high end tow-in boards. You can choose the right quiver for your surfing skills or the waves you want to ride. Even on flat days or when you just want to have a different experience by cruising on the wonderfull lagoons with the stunning view to the mountains, why not getting a SUP from us.

“The Green Island” offers so much to do. You can hike on top of the mountains, take shower at the waterfalls, jump in the warm water of the caldeiras, take a visit at the old tea manufacture museum and theres much more to explore.
We are offering daily surftrips to breathtaking surfspots, surf classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced and you also can book with us your jetski experience.

You’ll find all sorts of waves here, easy beachbreaks which work best on the summers southswells and consistent pointbreaks at the westcoast.
“The Green Island” is the only one of all the island which has northfacing beaches and it’s here where you have the punchy beachbreaks, powerful reefbreaks and the most stunning reef breaks where you walk throug the paradisiacal landscape downhill.

Seasonal conditions

The year round climate and water temperature is mild, which doesn’t go lower than 16°c in winter and gets as warm as 22°c from august till November. In winter bring a 4×3 wetsuit, spring and autum a spring or thinner full suit whilst in summertime you enjoy surfing in boardshorts.

Crowd factor and local people

Sao Miguel has the most surfspots and also the most surfers of all islands. Although this sounds busy, the waves are empty and you won’t find any crowded spot.

Characterization of surroundings/region

The Azores archipelago is in the middle of the atlantic ocean, 1.360 km west of Portugal.
They are vulcanic islands which were developed during the 14th century from portuguese sailors.
Their vulcanic mountanious shapes and the year round mild and humid climate with its blooming green vegitation is coming from the warm gulf stream.
Sao Miguel is the largest of the nine islands and it’s nickname “The Green Island” is exactly what you can expect when your travel here.
Its green graslands are ending into the ocean, the vulcanic landscape is covered in green and flowerish vegetation. You find cows crossing the streets, the freshest fish and stunning landscape while exploring the islands.
The hot springs are famous for taking a warm bath and you find them in the mountains and near the ocean.
If you think you saw it all, take a tour to the flourish tea fields and take a hike to the stunning waterfalls.
Your journey will be unforgetable by visiting this beautiful island.

Surfhouse
Located in north coast Monte Verde beach of azores surf capital Ribeira Grande, only a street cross into water and short walk to its historical square center with terraces, garden and river crossing it as also to pools/beach complex for family time.
Granted the best location for your holidays in S. Miguel.

Indoor facilities are 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, living and kitchen and offers outside a garden area with hammock, chillout beach & sunset balcony, barbecue and table corner.

Beach House
Located right in the south coast and just up to 5 minutes walk from its main Surf spot Pópulo beach, it offers accommodation up to 6 persons, in two independent bed rooms – with double bed or 2 individual beds, living room with sofa bed up for 2 persons., 2 common bathrooms, kitchen and terrace and barbecue area sea view

Bungalows and Camping North Shore
Located in the north coast area and insered in a farm in touch with nature it offers accommodation in Bungalows from 2 up 4 per. and Camping sites for tents, common bathrooms, kitchen with barbecue, laundry and chillout areas.

Hill surf house
Also located in north coast azores surf capital Ribeira Grande, up to 10minutes walk to beach and its historical square center with terraces, garden and river crossing it from shared or private room to full house rent for your group (of to up to 8 persons max) full privacy and confort..
Indoor facilities are 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, living and kitchen and offers outside a chillout fruit trees garden area with barbecue and table corner.

The Cottage
Also located in north coast azores surf capital Ribeira Grande, up to 5minutes walk to beach and 10minutes to its historical square center with terraces, garden and river crossing it
A small traditional Cottage with double bed room, kitchenet and bathroom for full privacy and confort of a small group or family (2-3 persons).
Also offers outdoor area with barbecue.

Country house
Its also located in north coast near Ribeira Grande up to 10minutes drive away.
5minutes drive to the closest beaches of Moinhos or Maia and tea fields, lake
A historical traditional house with 1 double bed room, 1 double/triple single beds room, living, kitchen and 1 bathroom for full privacy and confort of a group or family (5-7 persons).
Also offers outdoor chillout area with barbecue and table

Town private house
Located near and surrounding area of main town Ponta Delgada and just up to 10minutes drive to south beaches, airport and down town historical center
Full private houses for smaller groups or families of 2-3 person in 1 room or 4-5 persons in 2 rooms with extra bed available for your group privacy and confort..
Indoor facilities are 1-2 rooms, 1 bathroom, living and kitchen and offers outside a commom chillout garden area with barbecue and table corner
