The coziness of a hostel and the luxury of a hotel

I decided to work on my Barefoot ideas and how to share it with others. To help getting that feeling, I created the idea of a ‘mature hostel’. A combination of the coziness of a hostel, where we can connect with others. And the luxury of a hotel, where we can have the comfort and space to retreat.

Olá! I’m Marion, 38 and born in the Netherlands. After living an adventurous and fun life in Utrecht, I followed a long spoken dream to the ocean. Together with my partner and 3 kids, we found our little paradise in Portugal.

We can smell the ocean when we wake up and have the space and nature around us to do the things we love. Feel the sand between our toes, build sandcastles on the most beautiful beaches, connect with ourselves while surfing, doing yoga or walk through the amazing nature here. But also the like-minded people we’ve met, became close friends and made us feel at home, in paradise. Pretty damn happy!

ACCOMMODATION TYPES

The house has a total of 5 rooms. All have a private bathroom, WiFi and access to the common areas and facilities. Our rooms are great for digital nomads, with a lot of light, a desk and good Wifi.

The house has a big living room with fully equipped kitchen, a lounge area, a fireplace and a reading corner. With a big dining table in front of the fireplace, shared meals are a common theme. On top we have a coworking with communal desks, which makes the house perfect for digital nomads and people on workation. We offer fresh teas and a coffee corner with a good filter machine and grinder, to make a freshly ground coffee. And a therapy room for your energizing practice or small group session.

Outside we have a lounge terrace, pool, bbq and a huge Portuguese table to enjoy some fun and delicious meals. It’s only a 10 minute walk to the Ribeira beach and the world’s famous surf spot.

SURF CONDITIONS

---

Ericeira is THE surfing capital of Europe. For being the only European spot among the World Surfing Reserves and due to the exceptional coastline conditions for the practice of Surf.

Ericeira is a popular retreat for locals, tourists, and surfers from around the world, owing to the forty beaches with good conditions.

One of the 7 surf spots mentioned in the World Surfing Reserve is Ribeira d’Ilhas, only a 10 minute walk from our Guesthouse.

Besides surfing, Ericeira has such a lovely vibe with her mixture of locals, expats and travelers. Even in winter, you can enjoy the Ericeira vibes, for example at one of the terraces at Praça da República.

JOURNEY

---

There are several options:

1. By car
We are on Google Maps  

From Lisbon airport it will take you around 40 min. when taking the high way. Be aware this is a toll road and they don't always take foreign cards, some coins / cash money is very recommendable. When renting a car, you can also choose the option with automatic road toll system, called Via Verde. With this little reader, you can just pass straight through the road tolls and pay them later.

2. With our neighbour Uber driver, Pasi
Very trustworthy, always on time and will wait for you at the gate with a sign, with your name and the Barefoot logo.
His price is €45 one way and €40 when you also drive back with him. Prices are  between 07:00 and 19:00, when before/after the price is €50.

Lisbon city centre will be €50 one way.

3. By Uber
You can order an Uber, which will cost you between €40-60 depending on the hour. Please be aware that they sometimes cancel your drive because they found a better deal...

4. By public transport
You first need to go to bus station Campo Grande, which takes around 12 min. You can take a bus (€3), shuttle or Uber. From there you can take the bus to Ericeira. You can check on the bus station or at www.carrismetropolitana.pt for schedules. Be aware that you take a bus which takes the highway! These 'fast' buses take you to Ericeira in around an hour, but only drive 1 (sometimes 2) times an hour. The 'slow' buses can take up to 2+ hours. You can pay in the bus and the price will be around €7 one way. From Ericeira bus station, we unfortunately don't have a regular schedule, it is not even going every hour. So we suggest to take an Uber, it will be around €4 one way.
