THE MENTAWAIS
The Mentawai Islands are a chain of more then seventy islands and islets on the Indian Ocean located approximately 150 km from the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. The strait that separates them from Sumatra is the Mentawai Strait. Siberut (4.030 km ²) is the largest island. The other major islands are Sipura, North Pagai (Pagai Utara) and South Pagai (Pagai Selatan) and the indigenous inhabitants of the islands are known as the people of the Mentawais. The Mentawai Islands have become a major surfing destination in the world during the last decade.

The resort is located in the Playgrounds area, where we have the highest diversity of good waves in the Mentawai Islands. Every wave is within a 15-minute speedboat ride from the resort and the closest one is Hideaways only 3 minutes by boat.

There is always a protected wave with an offshore wind somewhere. Our swell window is huge, from 240 SW through to 165 SE, our area gets consistently hit by a lot of swell from the Indian ocean. Our waves are the closest Mentawai waves to mainland Sumatra, which means less travel time for you to access our perfect waves.

We have waves that suit everyone from beginners to professional surfers. Our guest capacity is limited to 12 surfers, which means more waves for everybody! Every difficult wave has an alternate and easier wave nearby. This means we can divide our group by different surf levels. In addition to the huge variety of famous waves of international quality, there are still many other secrets or semi-secret spots of excellent quality in the zone which we do not share in our website!

The Hidden Bay Resort Mentawais is the first High-Performance Center in Indonesia, specially designed to offer the best physical and psychological conditioning so that our guests surf at their best in the most perfect waves in the world.A special team of physiotherapists, trainers, and surf coaches work full time at the resort providing a completely new Mentawai experience. Here you will find the next step in the evolution of your surfing! Beside surfing is also a great place to enjoy nature in a private bay even for non-surfers. The Resort try to be as much eco-friendly as possible, including minimize our foot print and invest in coral restoration and beach clean projects.

Alexandre Ribas and his Family live at the resort, and he wants to make sure every single guests can have the best experience ever and feel like home. Alex also have a great knowledge about the region and waves.

The De Luxe “UMA” was made in traditional Indonesian style.
The 77 square meter rms can accommodate 1 couple or up to 3 individual guests sharing it, making it ideal for groups of friends, couple and families. The spacious room offers a king size bed and two single beds, a bathroom, and a balcony a sea facing balcony. The design of the space is about allowing the use of each space without comprising the privacy of other guests.

The “UMA” 2 has two floors:
Downstairs: 1 Suite for couples and single with a double bed and 1 room for up to 3 guests
Upstairs: Master Room with 1 double bed and 3 single beds, for group of friends, families or couples.

Traditional Style, Modern Comfort Orthopaedic mattresses, 400 thread count sheets, air conditioning, mini-bar, hot water in a private bathroom and differentiated lighting decoration, ensure the welfare and comfort of guests. All the furnishings were made at the island resort using wood found on the beach ensuring a rustic and unique design

Based on a natural and nutritional menu with touches of local and international cuisine, all meals aim to provide guests with light, healthy and tasty food. This special menu resets the energy for the next surf session with fast and light digestion.

Breakfast consists of fruit cereal, yogurt, sandwiches, and pancakes, as well as the best coffee around, made with the finest grains of Sumatra.

Power Surf – Surf Coaching Methodology
For surfers, Hidden Bay Resort aims to take performance to new heights and levels by offering the professional surf coaches from Power surf Team. Rodrigo Machado is the creator of the methodology based on natural ginastic movements and using Smothstar surf trainer to make the movements on land to later practices on our perfect waves. Whatever is the surf level, beginners, intermediate or advanced surfers, in only one trip you goona take your surfing to the next level.Power Surf Training to push your surfing to the next level During the last 20 years, Rodrigo Machado has dedicated himself to researching exercises and techniques to assist the greatest number of surfers in gaining and improving performance. In the process of searching, he found in Karate the discipline of body and mind. In Yoga, self-knowledge, the art of breathing and meditation. In Natural Gymnastics, the essence and consciousness of movement. In Capoeira, the “mandinga and acrobatic movements. It starts the Art of Hacking the Surf, result of connection between technical movements that effectively impact on the improvement of the surf performance, with 4 base pillars of the sports training: Physical, Technical, Tactical and Psychological. The true result of Hacking Surf takes the surfer to the next level of performance. And it was developed for those who want to achieve effective changes and high performance through POWER SURF. ABOUT RODRIGO MACHADO Rodrigo Machado is a surfer who for two decades has been deepening and perfecting the Art of Hacking Surf, facilitating physical and technical exercises that impact the largest number of surfers who want to improve their performance. In Brazil, he was coach of the professional surfer Peterson Rosa and worked with the base categories of the Peterson Rosa Surf School. During his performance the school revealed talents like Jihad Khodr and Peterson Crisanto. Graduated in Sports Science and Physical Activity from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR) and currently master’s dregree in High Performance Sports at the Spanish Olympic Committee. Today he lives in the north coast of Spain, Basque Country, where he Has worked for 10 years as Surf Coach of the basic categories of the Pukas Surf School, and also performs surfers’ physical training at Hurley Surf Club.

Smothstar – The best surf trainer SmoothStar is arguably the world’s best surf training tool, helping to improve technique, body position and flow on a wave. SmoothStar is designed and Distributed globally by SmoothStar International Pty. Ltd.

For a long time SmoothStar has been known to Australian Surfers as the best surf training product outside the water. However, unless you have tried a SmoothStar, it is hard to understand why it feels so much like surfing.

The SmoothStar product replicates the surf feel because the front truck has a special turning device called the SmoothStar Thruster. The Thruster makes the front of the board loose so the board can turn and drive off the back trucks – the same as you would with surfboard rails and fins… the feel is “rail-to-rail” surfing on land.

Andai Pilates – The physical and mind maintenance
All of this is provided by the Resort partnership with The Andai Studio. The owner, Andreia Fornaro, has the responsibility to choose all top-level professionals working at the Hidden Bay Resort Mentawai.
The main focus of our training routines is on stretching and regenerative exercises following the functional model of ‘Five Konzept’ developed in Germany. This allows our guests to enjoy their entire stay while maintaining peak performance levels in the water.
We also offer harder, more personalized workout routines to be executed in the resort under the supervision of one of our trainers – it all depends on each guest and their needs and wants.
