ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

Our Surf Camp is based in Furadouro, one of the best places to stay in North Portugal, located right between two major cities of Portugal, Porto in the North and Aveiro in the South, both accessible with quick trip by car or train. Surrounded by beautiful white sand beaches to discover, like Torreira, Furadouro, Maceda, Esmoriz, Espinho and so many more.
Oporto region is well known for top-notch surf conditions starting springtime that lasts until Autumn. Our Surf Camp is right in the middle of this surfing mecca, home to some of the best waves and surf breaks in north Portugal where you can still find epic spots without any crowd. If you surf here, you won’t want to go elsewhere!
This beautiful coastal town is an inexpensive alternative to big getaways and cities. Furadouro managed to keep a low-key, chilled vibe with a rustic fisherman village charm, a central coastal avenue with quirky local restaurants and colorful cafés. It’s the perfect framework to start your surf dream.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING

Enjoy the comfort and privacy in our Surf Camp just a few minutes from the best-uncrowded surf spots in Portugal.
Located in a quiet neighborhood in Furadouro.  The house has a white, sunny interior feel and has just been renovated. It can be leased as a whole for surfer families or as individual rooms. Located at a short walk of Furadouro Centre and near Furadouro Beach, you will have everything at easy reach.
The house can be shaped with several layouts from, Shared Dorms, Private Single, Twin Rooms, or Double Rooms with shared bathrooms and a Master Suite with a private bathroom.
The Surf Camp boasts a beautiful outdoor entertaining area with a huge pool and garden, access to a large shared communal kitchen and free wifi throughout. Add to it, a magnificent barbecue area to relax and cook your outdoor meals.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

Truth be told, we are passionate about Surfing and we want to share that stoke with you. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first surfing experience, or if you’re already are into the surf vibe and just looking for new challenges. Rest assured, we have a course for you and will take your skills to the next level and have a lot of fun at the same time.

You have unlimited free access to all the surf equipment (surfboard and wetsuit). At Mahalo Surf Camp, we encourage you to surf your heart out!

North Portugal has waves all year round. However, the conditions vary a lot over the year…
SUMMER: Furadouro is a great place to surf uncrowded waves all summer. As such we recommend the summer to both beginners and intermediate surfers. The size varies but is generally the best size for learning and improving, with waves from knee high to head high.
SPRING & AUTUMN: A mixed bag but usually delivers epic conditions with several days of Offshore winds during the mornings. These are great seasons for beginner, intermediate and advanced surfers who are really stoked on surfing glassy waves. This is also a quieter time of year, so well suited to those who want a quiet and cozy holiday but still with lots of sun and friendly green waves.
WINTER: Winter is suitable for advanced free surfers and intermediates keen for a winter getaway. Surf conditions and weather can vary greatly. It’s best to check the forecast, or email us to ask about your specific dates and surf expectations.

Characterization of surroundings/region

Furadouro town center is a short walk or drive from the house. Here you can find many affordable restaurants and bars with authentic Portuguese cuisine. It’s also possible to buy groceries if you prefer to cook at camp.
The House is in an incredible location to access natural surroundings besides the beach. To the North lies Maceda Pine forest, a 10km protected forest reserve that runs up the coastline. A bike path running through the forest is great for renting bikes or for runners.
We are very happy to arrange bike rentals during your stay and highly recommend exploring our coastline by bike.
Ovar Skate Park is also just a short drive away. Or if you prefer to practice skating on flat, there are plenty of good skate spots in our neighborhood.

Places to visit

Aveiro and Porto are two popular city destinations only 30 mins away by train.
Aveiro is a small picturesque city with historic canals used for transporting salt produced in the area.
Porto is the main city in North Portugal, rated Best European Destination in 2017. This stunning and authentic city is famous for Port wine, friendly people and of course great year round city surfing.

Ways to get to the camp

Plane: OPO Oporto airport is just 40km away. It is also possible to arrive at Lisbon airport and take the 2hr train to Ovar.

Airport transfer: We can arrange airport transfers from OPO for €60 each way.
Please make your request in advance.

Train: Our nearest train station is Ovar. We are happy to pick you up from Ovar Train Station. Please let us know your arrival time in advance.

Car: If you’re interested in exploring the area, we recommend renting a car.
