Moon Palikir is owned and operated by Mr. Sutharshan and his family, a proudly family-run Indonesian surf charter that has been operating for nearly a decade. Based in Padang, West Sumatra, the team includes a dedicated local crew, an experienced onboard chef, and professional surf guides with extensive knowledge of the region. Over the years, they’ve explored every corner of the Mentawai Islands and, beginning in 2026, will expand their adventures to the Banyak Islands.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING

Moon Palikir Surf Charter is a 35-metre luxury surf vessel designed for both comfort and functionality while exploring Indonesia’s remote islands. The boat features five air-conditioned guest cabins four twin rooms and one quad room accommodating up to 12 guests. Each cabin includes personal storage shelves and comfortable bedding, with fresh linen and towels provided. Common areas include a spacious indoor lounge and an open-air upper deck offering panoramic ocean views. Guests can enjoy Starlink Wi-Fi, a TV and entertainment system, and two speedboats for fast and convenient surf transfers. Electricity is available 24 hours a day throughout the trip, ensuring a comfortable stay at sea. Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas, and valuables can be safely stored in private cabins or with the captain upon request.

All trips aboard Moon Palikir include full-board catering prepared by the onboard chef. Guests enjoy three freshly cooked meals daily, along with snacks, tropical fruits, tea, coffee, and soft drinks served throughout the day. The menu combines Indonesian and international cuisine, featuring fresh seafood, local produce, and hearty dishes designed to keep surfers energized after long sessions. The chef can accommodate vegetarian diets and mild allergies with prior notice. Each charter also includes 15 cartons of Bintang beer, with additional beer or wine available at cost. As the boat operates in remote island regions, self-catering or outside dining options are not available, ensuring guests can relax and enjoy a complete, all-inclusive onboard dining experience.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

Moon Palikir is not a surf school, but a guided surf charter designed for surfers who already have experience in the water. Trips are organized and led by professional surf guides with extensive knowledge of the Mentawai, Telo, and Banyak Islands. The guides provide daily surf briefings, choose the best breaks according to swell and wind conditions, and assist with safety.

The starting point, Padang, is the provincial capital where guests arrive before boarding Moon Palikir. The islands are remote and sparsely populated, offering an authentic Indonesian experience far from major tourist areas.

Guests fly to Minangkabau International Airport (PDG) in Padang, West Sumatra, which is accessible via Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, or Singapore.

Airport to harbor: 45 – 60 minutes by private transfer

Transfers: All guests are met at the airport and transferred by private shuttle to the harbor for boarding

Public transport: Not required as all logistics are handled by Moon Palikir staff

Important details

Visa: Most nationalities are eligible for a 30-day Visa on Arrival, which can be extended once for an additional 30 days.

Travel insurance: Mandatory for all guests.

Mentawai Surfer Tax: A Mentawai Regional Surf Tax of IDR 2,000,000 per surfer is required by the local government. The Moon Palikir team assists guests in arranging this payment before departure to ensure a smooth boarding process.
