ABOUT THE SURF CAMP
LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS
Set Up Around The Surf Day
Everything is set up around the surf day. Two surf sessions, a daily coaching session in between — video analysis, land training, or surf skate — spot selection based on your level and the conditions, and a recovery setup that completes the picture: ice bath and sauna, yoga available daily, massage arranged through the surf camp, and a pool to decompress between sessions.
Back at the surf camp, you’ll eat well — food made in-house daily using locally sourced ingredients. Sleep in a private room. And most evenings, join the group for dinner or whatever our social coordinator Maria has organised.
Around 20 guests at a time, all in private rooms. No dorms. Arrive on any dates — no fixed programme weeks.
Where There’s Always Somewhere Offshore
Padang Padang, Impossibles, and Bingin are a short distance from the surf camp, with Uluwatu, Dreamland, and Balangan also close by. Bali has rideable surf 365 days a year — somewhere on the Bukit is always working. In the dry season, the trade wind blows offshore across the breaks closest to us; when it shifts in the wet season, our focus moves to the south coast and the Nusa Dua area.
We’ve been checking these conditions in person every morning since 2005, and the plan is always built around what’s actually working that day, for your group’s level.
CAMP OPERATOR
Western managed by experienced surfers, the camp has top local Balinese surfers who will guide you to the best breaks. We have expert local knowledge that allows us to take into account TIDES, WIND, SWELL to find the best quality waves on the Bukit peninsula.

CATERING
Choose Two From Fourteen, Every Morning
Breakfast is à la carte — choose one main and one smaller dish, served from 7 am to 2:30 pm so it works around your surf session. Smoothie bowls, granola and yoghurt, avocado toast, morning greens, Bali pancakes, and more… Extra dishes and add-ons are available at a small charge.
Every morning starts with blended fruit juice and free-flow Bali coffee or tea. Coconuts, lattes, and espresso are available at a small additional cost.
LunchThe Meal Between Sessions
Lunch runs from 12pm to 2pm — a rotating mix of Western and Indonesian dishes, with dessert every day. The falafel wrap and linguine with prawns are guest favourites, and local dishes like seafood nasi campur keep the menu tied to where you are. When fish is on the menu, it comes from the local fish market, straight from the sea. Portions are generous — there’s always enough if you want more.
Dietary requirements are handled properly, not as an afterthought: gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and allergy-sensitive cooking, including care around cross-contamination for coeliacs. If you have an unusual requirement, contact us before you arrive and the kitchen will plan for it.
SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES
SURF COURSE DETAILS
FOur coaching team has been teaching and guiding surfers on the Bukit Peninsula since 2005 — led by Richie, who grew up at Bingin and has coached here for over 20 years, and Randy, a former Rip Curl Grom Search winner. Whether you’re staying at the surf camp or joining us from elsewhere in Bali, you can surf with us.
Groups are organised by ability, spot selection is based on your level and the day’s conditions, and an instructor or guide paddles out with you every session.
Beginner Surf LessonsYour First Waves Done Properly
Surfing is one of the more technical sports to pick up — but most beginners are riding waves on their first day with the right coaching and the right conditions. We keep group sizes to a maximum of six students, which means your instructor can actually see what’s happening and give you feedback that’s specific to you rather than generic.
Sessions cover the fundamentals: paddling technique, wave timing, pop-up, stance, and how to read what the water is doing around you. Spot selection is based on conditions and your ability — so you’re not being taken somewhere too powerful for where you are. Both land-based preparation and in-water coaching are included.
Intermediate Surf LessonsCoaching That Addresses What’s Actually Holding You Back
If you can catch and ride waves on your own but feel like something isn’t clicking, this is where it changes. Intermediate coaching at Padang Padang Surf Camp focuses on the specific technique, wave selection, and timing issues that stop surfers from progressing — not a repeat of the beginner fundamentals you already know.
Sessions are in the water with your instructor, with feedback given in real time. Video analysis is part of the daily coaching session for guests staying with us — you watch your own surfing back and work through what happened, not just what it felt like. For intermediates, seeing it on screen often explains more in two minutes than an hour of instruction in the water.
Groups run strictly by ability — you won’t be grouped down to fill a slot.
Surf GuidingYou Can Surf Independently, We Know Where To Take You
Surf guiding is for experienced surfers who can surf independently (catching overhead reef waves without help, riding both ways, and paddling out through breaking waves) and want local knowledge, condition-led spot selection, and a guide who knows the breaks from the inside. It’s not instruction. It’s not a lesson. It’s surfing the right wave at the right time with someone who surfs these breaks every day.
The Bukit has some of the most consistent surf in the world. Uluwatu, Padang Padang, Bingin, Impossibles, Dreamland, Balangan — each one has its own character, its own timing, its own entry. Twenty years of daily surf checks means we know which one is working on any given morning and exactly how to surf it well.
Guiding groups are a maximum of four surfers to one guide, and typically run at three to one or two to one. Want coaching rather than guiding? Private lessons work at any level, including for experienced surfers who want technical input on their turns, timing or barrel riding.
SURF MATERIALS
When you surf with us, you can bring your own board or use one of ours, selected to match your abilities, goals, and the day’s surf conditions.
Surfboard use is included in the price of group, private, and semi-private lessons for both residents and non-residents.
Our selection includes shortboards, mid-lengths, longboards, funboards, and soft-top foam boards.
ShortboardsWe offer a wide range of shortboards in various lengths, styles, and fin configurations. Whether you’re looking for John John Florence’s pro model for high-performance surfing or a wider, thicker board for a more relaxed ride.
Mid-lengthsHas it been a while since your last surf or you’re not ready for a shortboard yet? Our mid-length boards are perfect for you. The extra length helps with paddling and wave catching, while the shortboard-inspired design offers high performance with added drive. We prefer thruster fin setups for precise control.
FunboardsFunboards are easy to catch waves with, offering more manoeuvrability than longer boards while remaining stable. They come in a wide range of sizes, allowing you to choose the right fit as your skills progress.
Soft-topsA surfer always begins their journey on a soft-top surfboard. These boards have a foam padding on the top and sides to keep everyone safe. They are very stable and designed to get you up and riding for the first time.
LongboardsWe have a range of longboards to suit every style. They are great for just getting comfortable catching your own waves if you are new to surfing. Or for stylish cruising on a small wave day.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
At Padang Padang Surf Camp, community is what turns a good stay into a great one. Because we intentionally keep our scale intimate with just 13 rooms, you will actually get to know everyone by name. These genuine personal connections are the core of our surf camp.
It is not uncommon for friends made at these evening activities to keep in touch for years and return together for a second trip. To make sure you never have to figure out your evening plans alone, our dedicated social coordinator curates and leads nightly outings. Our host brings everyone together every evening to share surf stories, enjoy an amazing dinner, and experience the real Uluwatu.
While we have our favourite local spots, we never just stick to a rigid schedule. We keep things fresh and tailor our evening outings based on the vibe of the guests staying with us that week.

SURF CONDITIONS
Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots
Uluwatu
Uluwatu is the indicator break for the west side of the bukit and is very consistent. The wide reef offers many different peaks which all turn on at different tide stages. The Peak is immediately in front of you as you paddle out of the cave and is a consistent wave that works at all tide stages. Outside corners only breaks at low tide on the biggest swells and is a classic wave. Racetrack is a fast racy wave that works best at low tide. Temples is a bit of a paddle from the main peak so tends to be less busy. The bombie will break on the biggest swells and is rideable at up to 20' or even bigger!
Padang Padang
Padang Padang is known as the balinese pipeline. It is a very fast long barrelling wave that lives up to it's reputation as the most serious wave in bali. Similar to Hawaii's very own pipeline, the bali pipeline also breaks over a shallow coral reef and is only for expert surfers.
Lesser known is Padang Padang rights which breaks in front of a beautiful white sandy beach. This is a very easy wave and is suitable for beginners, longboarders and intermediate surfers. This is a perfect surf spot for learner surfers to progress from riding whitewater to unbroken waves. The conditions at high tide are very forgiving - a long slow unbroken wave which can reform from whitewater to swell. It is also a beautiful location for sunbathing and watching the sunset.
Impossibles
Impossibles is a fast racy wave that is very picturesque. There are 3 seperate peaks on this wide reef which breaks up the crowds. On the right conditions with a good size swell and offshore wind it is possible for the sections to link up and to get a ride of a mile or more to the warungs at bingin.
Bingin
Bingin is a perfect machine wave that works best around mid tide. It is a very consistent wave and throws out many perfect barrels. If you want to practice barrel riding lefts - bingin could be the perfect location. At low tide it can be very shallow and for expert surfers only. At high tide the wave can break very soft and is where the bali children learn to surf. High tide can be perfect for long boarders or intermediate surfers.
Dreamland
Dreamland is a beautiful white sand beach a short walk from Impossibles & Bingin. There are many different breaks that work at different satges of the tide and is suitable for novice surfers as it breaks over sand. The best wave is an A frame peak that works best at low tide on a big swell. There is also a punchy shorebreak wave where you will see balinese and visitng surfers exhibiting their skills at the water's edge. Dreamland is a perfect location to spend the day surfing, sunbathing and handing out in the local warungs.
Balangan
Balangan is the next break on the bukit and is waking distance from dreamland. It is a reef break but has a beautiful white sand beach which is very quiet and beautiful. Balangan is a fun left hander that is not so fast as the other reef breaks on the bukit and is suitable for intermediate surfers.
