Because the waves break on sandbars just offshore, it’s excellent for novice surfers as the perfect place to learn how to catch your first wave. For the experienced surfer there is more than enough to do in the high rear.

We welcome guests aged 21 and over. Here at the Pura Vida Lodge, we appreciate maturity and a sense of responsibility from our guests, which is why we have an age limit. Most of our guests are probably between the ages of 21 and 35, but we also welcome people who are a bit older than that (after all, so are we!).

Our Pura Vida Surf Lodge offers the kind of accommodation that surfers are looking for in Mimizan Plage, France.
The spacious rooms with sturdy beds and comfortable mattresses provide a perfect nights rest. The rooms vary from 2 to 8 person’s capacity and most of them even have their own private terrace. The lodge has reliable and clean showers and toilets.
The lodge is also equipped with a huge common relax-garden with a nice heated private swimming pool. With a small maximum capacity of guests you will certainly be able to find your peace.
In our lounge area, we have nice comfortable sofas in a unique “surfy” decor. They create a super relaxed atmosphere and function as an ideal place to share time with others or enjoy your own space and rest. A library and boardgames keep the boredom at bay.
In the garden area, our 100% south facing sun terrace with swimming pool is equipped with lounge beds, garden furniture and an outside solar shower.
Retreat from the midday sun and chill out in the garden, in a hammock or with a book in the love-seats -no problem at the surf lodge!
The more active guests can play darts, table tennis or a game of bowls. You can also enjoy a cool beer by the pool during the “apres-surf”. In addition, the lodge provides Free WiFi (wireless internet connection) throughout the house and garden. Surfing costs energy. Therefore it is important to reload your batteries in order to best enjoy the sun, sea, surf and beach. Tasty and healthy food, that is our aim.
Every morning we will wake you up with a delicious and healthy breakfast buffet on the sunny terrace to get the day off to a good start. Freshly brewed coffee and tea, juices, hot sandwiches, eggs, jam, yoghurt, cereals, cheese, fruit, … At dinner time, our fantastic chef makes a surprising menu, an irresistible mix of traditional and international dishes. An exquisite BBQ simply can’t be missed. If you have specific dietary needs or allergies we will take this into account.

Want to learn how to surf? Then you have come to the right place! Surfing is an experience that is more than a fashionable sport.
Learning how to surf requires perseverance and time. The ultimate goal is that after the peddling you stand up from a lying position on your board and drive down the wave.
Under the guidance of a qualified surf instructor you’ll receive proper instruction and direction, which give you quick success when surfing.
Surf School Pura Vida works only with qualified specialists, who are both Lifeguards and Surf Instructors. All our instructors are ISA certified. ISA= International Surfing Association.
They make themselves fully available during the week for both beginner and advanced surfers.
During the theory sessions you get an explanation of the material, maritime safety and basic techniques.
After that you go under supervision and in small groups to experience your first surfing experience on the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Once you catch your first wave, you will see and feel that surfing is more than a concept: ”It’s a way of life”!
Guests at the Pura Vida Surf Lodge get a 6h course (6 x 1 hr). During class, we use a soft-top (soft surfboard), but after class you can start practising on our own boards (different lengths).
The whole week you can make free use of our surfboards, wetsuits, bodyboards, skimboards,…
All Lodge guests have a Electra beachcruiser with boardrack, so you can go surfing on the spot you want.

Characterization of surroundings/region

The region “Les Landes” is known for its vast pine forests and kilometers of golden beaches.
imizan is a seaside town (7 094 inhabitants) nestled into the luscious green landscape of the Landes Forest of Gascogne. Silvercoast, an ocean coast with silver reflections, as observed by the poet Maurice Martin, at the beginning of the century.
With a beach of almost 10km of fine sand, the Courant de Mimizan, a 7km waterway, which joins Aureilhan-Mimizan with the ocean, separates Mimizan “North” Beach where most summer activities take place and Mimizan”South” Beach, a vast relaxing space.
Mimizan Bourg centralizes the majority of commercial, industrial, cultural, sports and administrative activities of the town. This part of the town is symbolised by its XIIIth century bell-tower, the only surviving relic of Saint Marie Priory, a stopover on the route to Saint Jacques de Compostelle.
The historic heritage of Mimizan also counts five “safety” pyramids (marking the perimeter of the refuge zone), one fountain (Fontaine de Tuc du Dos) reputed to have healing qualities for ailments of the eye or skin, and restored wash-houses from the beginning of the XXth century.
Mimizan sprawls the south-west bank of the lake, at the edge of which tourist accomodation has been constructed, structures for water-activities, open-air activities 9 hole golf course ratified by the French Golf Federation and Woolsack Castle a Tudor type hunting house built for the Duke of Westminster in the 1910 which welcomed famous characters such as Winston Churchill, Coco Chanel and Salvador Dali, among others.
The floral promenade also runs along Mimizan Lake.

Nightlife of Mimizan
In the evening Mimizan is alive with action: a beautiful boulevard with many cozy bars and great nightclubs, where you can rock until the small hours. Our favorite bar “Pura Vida” is the place where you can go for après-surf. Here, you can not only party but also relax and watch surfmovies.

Do you want to learn how to surf, but not interested in hanging with the youth? Due to the big success of these 30+ camps, we offer 2 weeks this year.
Pura Vida 30+ is the ideal solution. Learn how to surf with like-minded 30 plussers. Our certified surf instructors will give you a taste of one of the most addictive sports. Work on your skills on one of the beach breaks within walking distance from the Lodge. A nice bed and a healthy breakfast, we end the day with a great dinner in a local restaurant, exactly what you need with an active surf vacation.
Our surfcamps are “All-in”, about everything you can think of is included: sleep in a comfortable bed, large communal garden with heated swimming pool and Sun terrace, large breakfast buffet and delicious dinner, daily surf lessons, all surf material, Electra beachcruiser, Wi-Fi (from your private hammock on your own terrace to the back of the garden from your Fatboy next to the swimming pool), enthusiastic host and hostess, …

“Surf & Yoga” is based on a first come, first served basis – while we would love to accept everyone who registers, there is a limitation on space and how much we will accept to ensure that we can maintain a high quality of service.Sun. Surf. Yoga. You. At Pura Vida Lodge, we believe that Yoga can improve the strength, flexibility and balance in the mind and the body, which will be helpful for your surf skills.
What?
The “Surf & Yoga” retreat is kind of an “All-in” week: from a comfy bed, extended breakfast buffet, delicious dinners, a nice garden with heated pool, fire-place and sun-deck, Surf & Yoga courses every day, all surf materials (boards and wetsuits), Electra beachcruiser, Free Wifi (from your hammock to the Fatboys in the garden.) We’d like to welcome everyone that is over 21yrs and open minded for Surf & Yoga. You don’t need any experience, but if you do, you’ll deepen your Yoga skills and/or Surf practice this week.
