Taghazout bay is located close to many worldclass surfbreaks. Within just 30 minutes driving there are more than 20 surf spots for every level. The waves are consistently good all year round, with some of the best swells in the world. Depending on the tide and daily conditions, we are taking our guests to different surf spots where beginners can learn on beach breaks while intermediate and advanced surfers can enjoy point breaks.

Tamraght village in the Taghazout bay is believed to be one of the first places where surfing was introduced in Morocco, with the first surfers arriving in the 1960s. Today, Tamraght has become a popular destination for surfers from all over the world due to its consistent waves and laid-back atmosphere. Some of the most popular surf spots include Devil's Rock, Crocodile Beach, and Banana Point.

Tamraght is a special town with a very laid back vibe and is incredibly safe for tourists. The village has everything you need: a currency exchange, pharmacy, barber, food, shops, transportation, and Moroccan friendliness. Tamraght has many restaurants catering to European travellers, some at local prices and some with European prices. Getting around Tamraght, and the Moroccan surf coast in general is incredibly easy. There is a six kilometre promenade from Devils Rock north to Taghazout along the beach that can be walked, biked or skated. The small size of Tamraght means that everything within the village including the beaches are walkable in a matter of minutes.

The hostel has excellent amenities and communal spaces including TV room, workspace area and an amazing roof-top terrace with BBQ facilities and table tennis. You can pop to the beach in just 5 minutes walk and there's a new supermarket around the corner. 

Shared dormitories at a surf hostel provides a livelier social atmosphere and can enhance closer connections with fellow surfers. Staying in the hostel offers the opportunity to interact, bond, and exchange stories with like-minded individuals from diverse corners of the globe. The shared experience of chasing waves, communal dining, and evenings filled with laughter creates a social atmosphere that enriches the surf journey. The type of accommodation and level of comfort greatly enhances your ability to rest, recharge, and recover after long hours in the water.

CAMP OPERATOR

Sattva Surf is operated by Hamza and Charlotte. Hamza has surfed for nearly 20 years and knows the best surf spots in the area. Besides teaching you how to read and catch the waves, his happy nature and superb care will make you want to come back again and again. Charlotte has practiced yoga over 15 years and gained her teacher certification with Triyoga, London. She also handles all bookings and is happy to answer any questions.

Sattva Surf offers different accommodation options depending on your preferences and budget. Our standard package includes a shared room at the excellent hostel and if you prefer privacy within a social environment we also offer a private room in the hostel, where the level of comfort enhances your ability to rest, recharge, and recover after long hour in the waves. If you would like a more private experience we also offer a package for small groups staying at an apartment.

Shared or private room, in hostel located five minutes from the beach

The surf hostel is located close to shops and restaurants and features a two-level terrace, dedicated workspace, communal areas and kitchen. Amenities include all essentials, and there is free WiFi throughout the hostel. The hostel provides a range of rooms from 6 bed dorms to 2 bed private rooms.

During your stay, you'll be served with daily breakfast, and for lunch, you have a freshly packed lunch such as sandwiches, salads or fresh fish on the beach.

Just as a surfer navigates the ever-changing ocean waves, we too ride the waves of life. At Sattva Surf, we believe in the power of finding balance in every aspect of life.

 

Our dedicated surf instructor, Hamza, understands the importance of proper technique, body alignment, and mental clarity. He also offers surf guiding for intermediate or advanced surfers who just want to surf the best waves the area has to offer. Hamza has been surfing and studying each spot for years and will take you to the breaks that works best for you at any given time.

 

We will take you to the best waves suitable for your level and conditions on any day. Whether you are a seasoned surfer or a novice seeking a new adventure, we welcome you with open arms.

There are many activities to choose from if you want a break from the waves. These can be booked and prices given upon request. 

Yoga lessons tailored for surfers to unwind and rejuvenate the body after a long day in the waves.

Paradise Valley in the Moroccan High Atlas mountains is a great day trip for hiking. There are mountain trails that will take you up and above the cliffs that surround Tamraght River. Jump in the crystal clear pools and enjoy a swim in the refreshing mountain river.

Horse or camel riding along the beach: Ride a camel along the beach, take in the rhythmic sway of the camel’s gait from a traditional saddle, and absorb stunning views of the Atlantic coast.

Sandboarding: Try an authentic and original experience in a wild, beautiful place with incredible views. Have a go at sandboarding on a half day trip not far from Agadir where you will hike up the sand dunes then glide back down on an adapted board. Take amazing photos to share with your social media friends and family.

Quad Biking: Have fun while exploring the countryside and beach on an exciting Quad Bike. 

Cooking Classes: Learn to make a traditional tagine the authentic way so you can recreate this delicious Moroccan dish back at home. The tagine is closely associated with Moroccan cuisine, where slow-cooked stews made with meat, poultry, or fish, are cooked with vegetables, aromatic spices, dried fruit, and nuts.

Local markets: The Souk El Had in Agadir is one of the largest markets in Morocco. It offers an endless array of flavors, smells, and sights overriding the senses. Buy Moroccan leather goods, argan oil, carpets, blankets, jewelry and clothing, and much more! The local market on Wednesdays in Aourir is like a little sister of Souk El Had: You find Moroccan spices, vegetables, fruits and popcorn. Don’t miss the authentic experience of this extra. Hammam and massage: enjoy cleansing and relaxing treatments and leave feeling rejuvenated.

SURF CONDITIONS

Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots

Tamraght has a beach break and produces both lefts and rights suitable for surfers of all levels. East, North-East winds and a North-West swell provide the optimum conditions for surfing in Tamraght. The 3 most famous surf spots are: Banana Beach, Devils Rock and Panorama. With a small swell, Banana Beach is a good surf spot for beginners. If the swell gets bigger, the Banana Beach spot starts to work and big waves start to break. Devils Rock is another great surf spot. The sandy beach offers an ideal base for beginner surfers while there is a point in the line that is more suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. 

Seasonal conditions

The best time of year for surfing Tamraght with consistent clean waves (rideable swell with light / offshore winds) is during Winter and most often the month of December. 

Crowd factor and local people

The locals have embraced the surf industry with open arms and will welcome you with their Moroccan friendliness. During the summer months the beach is crowded with locals but in the winter the surf tourists have it more or less to themselves.

Characterization of surroundings/region
This area of the Agadir region has some of the most diverse surf spots in Morocco with around 20 different surf spots that can be reached in 5 to 30 minutes by car. Located 15 km north of Agadir, between Aourir and Taghazout, on the Atlantic coast, Tamraght is a Berber village in Morocco. Imourann, the beach of Tamraght, as well as its other beaches along the Atlantic Ocean have remained wild and very appreciated by local and international tourists.   Tamraght has the same charm, as its famous big brother Taghazout but is much quieter, cleaner and has a more relaxed vibe. Tamraght is located right in the middle of all the surf spots, so it is the most central village to stay in.

Ways to get to the camp

Please book your flight to arrive at Agadir–Al Massira Airport (AGA). 

The local bus system is efficient, with a bus running from Agadir to Taghazout several times an hour for 5.5 MAD (roughly €0.55). Agadir International Airport and the central bus station are both accessible by taxi or bus. There are taxis that run along the coast and are also affordable but make sure to agree to the price before getting in or check that there is a mileage metre running. 


Important details

We can arrange transfer to/from the airport (€30 per trip). The easiest is if you let us know when your flight lands and we'll arrange a driver to wait with your name on a sign outside the airport.
