At Selina Surf Club we teach surfers of all levels. We provide surf lessons for those who want to learn how to step on to the water and surfers that want to improve having more speed and control in the green waves. Also for advanced surfers who wants to go one step further in their technique and style. Professional and experienced surf teachers coach you. They will get you to that next level and help you get the most from your surfing. We use the latest and most advanced equipment to provide the best feeling ever, all the lessons include surfboard and all the equipment needed. We have incredible year round surf conditions for all surfing levels, probably one of the best places worldwide to improve your surfing or learn to surf for the first time.

SURF CONDITIONS
Nicaragua is known for its volcanoes and lakes. Cocibolca Lake (the largest lake in Central America) creates the perfect atmospheric conditions in Rivas and San Juan del Sur, causing winds to blow offshore all year around, and perfects waves in this area. Birds, iguanas, turtles, monkeys swinging in the trees that line the sand and endless waves that begged to be ridden. From beginner to advanced, there is a wave for everyone along one of Nicaragua’s beaches. Unpaved roads and hidden paradises have kept these magnificent beaches from becoming overcrowded and will have you feeling as though you are entering a secret paradise. Selina Surf Club Maderas is located in Playa Maderas spot. Playa Maderas has incredible year round surf conditions for all surfing levels, probably one of the best places worldwide to improve your surfing or learn to surf for the first time. Just 10- 15 minutes of rest of the most importants spots in the area. Playa Maderas is a consistent and sometimes hollows spot around San Juan del Sur. There is no doubt that Playa Maderas is one of the best places to begin your surfing journey. Beginners can learn to ride here and veterans can get their groove back. Working super good on both small and medium swells, the outside section is good for intermediate surfers that wants to improve their surf as well its perfect for advances surfer that looking to show off their skills. The inside section reform and just perfect for beginners.

Wet Season: May to October
Major Swells: April to October, but the clean surf season is December to April when swell from deep antic lows reach the Pacific coastline with offshore winds a common occurrence. Typically morning surfs are offshore and afternoon are light onshore, make sure you are up early to get those classic glassy sessions.

Characterization of surroundings/region
Nicaragua officially the Republic of Nicaragua is bordered by Honduras in the North and Costa Rica in the South, the Caribbean Sea in the East and the Pacific Ocean in the West.
Nicaragua has three geographical regions: Pacific lowlands, Central highlands and Caribbean lowlands. On the Pacific side are two big freshwater lakes (the largest in Central America), one of them is Cocibolca Lake or Nicaragua Lake. This lake is home to some of the world's rare freshwater sharks. Nicaragua also is known as the land of volcanoes, there are around 40 volcanoes, many of which are still active, have sometimes devastated settlements but also have enriched the land with layers of fertile ash.
Nicaragua is home to a rich variety of plants and animals. There are currently 78 protected areas in Nicaragua, wildlife refuges and nature reserves that shelter a wide range of ecosystems. In addition to lakes, volcanoes and nature, the Pacific lowlands contains most of Nicaragua's Spanish colonial architecture and artifacts. Cities such as Leon and Granada abound in colonial architecture; founded in 1524, Granada is the oldest colonial city in the Americas

Ways to get to the camp
Private transportation: 20 minutes from San Juan del Sur, La Chocolata or Pepesca road and just follow the signs (really easy). There are rental car service in the airports (Managua and Costa Esmeralda)
Public transportation: From Managua to San Juan del Sur: taxi from the airport to Roberto Huembes, Managua bus station. Bus from Managua to San Juan del Sur. From San Juan del Sur to Selina Surf Club Casa Maderas: taxi from San Juan del Sur market or ask us for ours shuttles.

Important details
Formalities: No visa for stays of less than 3 month except for Cubans. $10 entry fee tax. The capital is Managua.
Language: the official language is Spanish. Second language: English.
Health: No vaccine is required to enter in Nicaragua except “yellow fever” if you come from South American countries. Nevertheless, think about taking a treatment against malaria if you wish to hazard in the jungle.
Time differences: -7 hours in winter, -8 hours in summer.
Weather: Nicaragua is a tropical country and only has two seasons: humid and dry. The dry season usually lasts from the end of December to mid-April. The wet season lasts the rest of the year. The Caribbean coast remains humid all year long. Temperatures not change too much.
Nearby airports to San Juan del Sur: Managua (2,30 hrs) and Costa Esmeralda (1,30 hrs). Book your Selina Surf Club airport transfer.
Environment: Nicaragua is the safest country in Central America.
Water/Electricity: Do not drink the tap water and bring along medicine for intestinal problems. Use an American outlet with flat connections because the electric current is 110 V.
Currency: The local currency is Cordoba (NIO) but it is not exportable. We recommend you to have US dollars in small denominations and change on the way there. Credit cards are not accepted everywhere.
