 SURF CONDITIONS
Panama has some of the best surf breaks in all of Central America! Whether you like point breaks, beach breaks, hollow tubes, or long peelers, Panama has a variety of surf breaks to accommodate your style. Panama is virgin and you can catch most of the best surf spots by yourself with your buddies. Few people know about Panama's surfing potential, which is a big plus for surfers who visit! However, you better go soon because Panama is becoming more and more popular for surfers from around the globe.   The province of Los Santos has some of the best Panama surf spots as it is located out on the peninsula of Panama. The west-facing coast of Veraguas Province and the south coast of Los Santos contain some great river mouth points and some good quality reefs, that have enough water over them to appeal to beginner and intermediate surfers, with fantastic beach breaks such as Playa Venao, Cambutal, Playa Guanico and Boca de Oria which can be great to learn to surf, Panama has it all!   Selina Surf Club Venao is located just in Playa Venao, this spot catches just about any swell, so it is a good bet when there is little or no surf anywhere else. It is best surfed at medium to high tide. At low tide, it tends to close out. Also, on swells over 8 to 10 feet, it tends to close out.

Seasonal conditions

Panama surfing is definitely recommended, is a legendary surfing location and is seen as more of a 'hardcore' destination  and for the adventurous it could be the trip of a lifetime.

Major swells
April to October, but the clean surf season is December to April when swell from deep antic lows reach the Pacific coastline with offshore winds a common occurrence. Typically morning surfs are offshore and afternoon are light onshore, make sure you are up early to get those classic glassy sessions.

 SURROUNDINGS / REGION

Characterization of surroundings/region

Panama is bordered by Costa Rica to the west, Colombia (in South America) to the southeast, the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. The capital and largest city is Panama City, whose metropolitan area is home to nearly half of the country's 4 million people. Panamanians believe in general that the word Panama means "abundance of fish, trees and butterflies". Panama was inhabited by several indigenous tribes prior to settlement by Spanish in the 16th century.

Panama's tropical environment supports an abundance of plants. Forests dominate, interrupted in places by grasslands, scrub, and crops. Wildlife is the most diverse in Central America. It is home to many South American species as well as to North American wildlife.

The culture is reflected in traditional products, such as wood carvings, ceremonial masks and pottery, as well as in Panama's architecture, cuisine and festivals. In earlier times, baskets were woven for utilitarian uses, but now many villages rely almost exclusively on income from the baskets they produce for tourists. Panamanian cuisine is a mix of African, Spanish, and Native American techniques, dishes, and ingredients, reflecting its diverse population

Activities

Need a break from the sand? Venture inland for a canopy tour of Cañas in the Azuero peninsula, or, head off the coast to explore the Isla Iguana or go fishing off Isla Cañas. Looking for wellness activities? After a day in the sun, recharge with a wellness workshop or tropical cocktail at The Playground. Yoga is always a popular activity. Try one of our yoga classes or mindfulness sessions. Here, like all of our locations, we go out of our way to help you experience all the awesome activities Venao has to offer. Whether you want to zipline through the jungle or explore the hidden islands of Venao we’ve got you covered.
