Welcome to Desert Surf Camp
Desert Surf Camp was born in 2017 out of a dream—and a lot of waves. Founded by Ismail, who has been surfing since he was 9, the idea was simple: to create a place where people can recharge through ocean energy, new connections, and inspiring adventures—just like we did when we found surfing.
Life moves fast, full of responsibilities and goals. That’s why Desert Surf is about sharing our love for surfing, connecting with like-minded people, and experiencing adventures. Whether it's catching waves, exploring Morocco, or sharing stories over tea, every moment is designed to refresh body and mind.
WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE ?
We don’t follow trends—we set them. While most surf camps in Morocco offer the same experiences, we believe in creating, not copying. From day one, we’ve focused on developing new, enhanced surf and travel experiences that go beyond the basics.
At Desert Surf, quality and organization are at the heart of everything we do. We take care of every detail so your adventure flows effortlessly, from well-planned surf sessions to immersive cultural experiences. Our team is constantly refining and improving what we offer, making sure every part of your trip meets the highest standards.
Features
Morocco is renowned for its consistent year-round waves and friendly surf culture, so we think it's a must-visit destination for any surfer. At Desert Surf Morocco, our experienced team is always on hand to make sure you get the most out of your time in the water. Every day we check the tides to find the best place to surf. Expect no day to be the same. Our goal is to provide you with the best surfing experience possible.
Morocco has waves all year round, and usually the most consistent months for big waves are from September to April, with a peak period from December to March. In the summer months from May to August, there are fewer waves, but there are always places with great waves for beginner surfers.
Beginners: Learning to surf in Morocco is possible all year round, thanks to a wide selection of surf spots and some excellent indoor beaches.
Intermediate: Intermediate surfers who want to improve their skills on green waves and are looking for consistent medium to big waves, we'd recommend a trip between September and May.
Advanced: Advanced surfers who are confident on the point breaks and are after more powerful waves, we would recommend a trip between December and March.
The coastline in our region offers a wide range of surf spots, from secluded beach breaks to point breaks, and with over 15 different surf spots at our feet, we are lucky enough to be able to choose where to go depending on conditions. We believe it's this diversity that makes this country a must-see for surfers of all levels
At Desert Surf Camp Tamraght, we offer a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere designed for those looking to fully immerse themselves in the surf lifestyle. Our camp is ideal for solo travelers, couples, and small groups who value connection, nature, and adventure. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced surfer, our programs combine quality surf coaching with authentic Moroccan exploration, creating a perfect balance between activity and relaxation. English is the main language used at the camp, and our team also speaks French, Arabic, and occasionally Russian. We focus on creating a calm and comfortable environment where guests can unwind, connect, and enjoy the journey. Please note that pets are not permitted in the camp to ensure hygiene and comfort for everyone. If you’re looking for a peaceful surf experience infused with adventure and local culture, Desert Surf Camp is the perfect place to start.
Ismail - Founder:
Born and raised in Morocco, Ismail has been chasing waves since he was 9 years old. Surfing has always been more than just a sport for him—it’s a way of life. But he’s not just a surfer; he’s a perfectionist when it comes to creating the best surf camp experience.
Every day, Ismail brings new ideas to enhance and improve Desert Surf Camp. He’s always thinking about how to make things better, whether it’s refining the daily schedule, improving logistics, or adding fresh experiences for guests. For him, this isn’t just a business—it’s a passion. FAVORITE SURF SPOT: Banana Point
FAVORITE MOROCCAN TRADITION: Fresh msemen in the morning before a surf session—nothing beats it! Jane - Co Founder:
With a background as a product manager in IT, Jane knows how to turn ideas into reality—and she brings that same expertise to Desert Surf Camp. Passionate about marketing and creating new experiences, she’s always thinking ahead, refining and improving what the camp offers. For her, it’s not just about running a surf camp—it’s about building something truly special.
Jane started surfing seven years ago and still loves every moment in the water. For her, surfing isn’t just a sport—it’s a lifestyle. That mindset shapes everything at Desert Surf, from the carefully designed itineraries to the seamless organization that makes every trip stress-free and full of adventure. BEST PART ABOUT MOROCCO: The stunning contrasts—high mountains, endless desert, green forests, the wild Atlantic, and the calm Mediterranean, all in one country.
TOP TIP FOR FIRST-TIME SURFERS: If you're used to managing and controlling everything in life—that won’t work in the ocean. Relax, let go, and trust the waves.
At Desert Surf Camp Tamraght, we welcome you to a cozy surf-focused guesthouse located in the peaceful village of Tamraght, just a short walk from the beach. Our camp offers a mix of shared dorms, single rooms, and double rooms with either double or twin beds. Some rooms come with private bathrooms, while others share facilities. While there are no private kitchens or balconies, guests enjoy access to our rooftop chill area with a partial sea view—perfect for unwinding after a surf session. We provide free Wi-Fi throughout the camp, and offer surfboard and wetsuit rentals, as well as airport transfers on request. Bed linen and towels are included, and a hair dryer can be provided upon request. Standard European power outlets are available, so no adapter is needed for most travelers. At Desert Surf Camp Tamraght, our surf courses are designed to provide a safe, fun, and enriching experience for all levels. We operate in small groups to ensure quality coaching and personalized attention. Each group typically consists of 4 to 6 participants per instructor, maintaining an excellent instructor-to-student ratio for effective learning.
The surf course includes 5 full days of surf instruction, each day starting around 9:30 AM and ending by 4:00 PM, depending on tide and weather conditions. The day usually includes a morning surf session, followed by a break for lunch at the beach, and then a second afternoon session focused on practice or surf theory.
Our program covers:
Surf basics (stance, paddling, pop-up) for beginners
Reading waves and positioning
Improving technique for intermediates
Safety and ocean awareness
Courses are held at various surf spots along the Tamraght and Taghazout coast, selected daily based on conditions and participant level. We welcome all levels, from complete beginners to intermediate surfers, with personalized goals such as catching green waves, turning, or improving paddling efficiency.
Instruction is provided in English.
At the moment, surf lessons are only available as part of our full camp packages we do not offer surf courses separately without accommodation. This ensures a complete, immersive experience for our guests.
we provide all the necessary surf equipment for the duration of your course. This includes soft-top surfboards for beginners and intermediates, as well as fiberglass boards for more advanced surfers upon request. All participants also receive high-quality wetsuits suited to the local water temperature.
Everything you need for the course is provided—surfboard, leash, wetsuit, and wax. Participants only need to bring their swimwear, towel, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle.
Surf equipment is primarily intended for use during lesson hours, but outside course hours, you may continue to use the gear depending on ocean conditions and with instructor approval, for safety reasons.
we offer a variety of activities to complement your surf journey and help you connect with the natural and cultural richness of the region. In addition to daily surf sessions, guests can take part in yoga classes held on our rooftop or at the beach, as well as sandboarding excursions in the nearby dunes of Tamri. We also organize peaceful sunset hikes through the hills of Tamraght, offering stunning ocean views and a tranquil atmosphere.
For those looking for more excitement, we can arrange a wide range of additional activities in collaboration with trusted local partners. These include skateboarding lessons at the nearby skatepark, quad biking, jet skiing, and camel or horse riding along the coast. You can also join day trips to iconic spots such as Paradise Valley, famous for its natural rock pools and palm-lined landscapes. These optional activities are available at an extra cost and can be booked directly through our team.
Characterization of surroundings/region
Desert Surf Camp is located in the peaceful village of Tamraght, on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, just 15 km north of Agadir and a short drive from the lively surf town of Taghazout. The region is known for its consistent waves, beautiful beaches, and laid-back atmosphere. Nearby sights include Paradise Valley with its natural rock pools, the vibrant souks of Agadir, and the scenic Atlas Mountains, all easily accessible for day trips. Tamraght is a traditional Berber village where locals are welcoming, respectful, and used to hosting international visitors. Moroccan culture places a strong emphasis on hospitality, modesty, and community. While many locals speak some English or French, basic knowledge of French or a few words in Arabic or Tamazight can go a long way in connecting with people. The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD), and the cost of living is affordable compared to European standards—meals, transport, and groceries are generally inexpensive. No specific vaccinations are required for travel to Morocco, but we recommend standard travel insurance and bringing any essential medication with you. Medical clinics and pharmacies are available in Tamraght and Agadir for minor needs, with larger hospitals located in Agadir if necessary.
Activities and facilities
At Desert Surf Camp Tamraght, the main focus is of course surfing, but we also offer a variety of other sports and experiences to enrich your stay. Guests can enjoy yoga sessions, sandboarding, and even skateboarding lessons at the nearby skatepark. For those looking for more adrenaline, we can help arrange quad biking, horse or camel rides, and jet ski sessions through trusted local partners.
We also organize excursions and guided tours to explore the best of southern Morocco. These include trips to Paradise Valley, the Agafay desert, the Sahara (Merzouga), and the High Atlas Mountains, including a guided ascent of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa.
In terms of shopping, Tamraght has small local shops for essentials, while the nearby city of Agadir (15 km away) offers souks, supermarkets, and modern shopping centers. For nightlife, Tamraght is a quiet village with a few relaxed cafés and restaurants, while Agadir has bars, beach clubs, and cinemas for those seeking more entertainment. Taghazout, just 5 minutes away, also offers a small but growing scene of surf cafés and live music spots.
Throughout the year, the region hosts local festivals, surf competitions, and cultural events depending on the season. Just ask our team if something special is happening during your stay—we’re always happy to help you discover more.
Whether you're here to surf, explore, or relax, Desert Surf Camp offers access to a full spectrum of sport, culture, and adventure.
