We are Dominical Surf School. Proudly the local surf experts, sharing the stoked and love for surfing since 2005. Surfing is more than a sport to us, it is our passion! Teaching surfing is a way for us to extend our knowledge while sharing our biggest joy and way of living! When you get on a surfboard and ride a wave, all the big life’s questions and worries disappear, in exchange a feeling of bliss and exhilaration will overtake. That’s why they say “only a surfer knows the feeling”. Surely is a great emotion of constant stoked, and we are more than thrilled to share it with you! With a background in professional surfing, we are not just passionate about it but also highly qualified. Transmitting our knowledge into our personalised lessons! Our instructors are certified by the ISA (International Surfing Association) as surf instructors and lifeguards. All of them with a minimum experience of 4 years teaching, most of them with a lifetime of surfing background. With our Costa Rica Surf Camp packages, every detail is taken care of to guarantee a stress-free vacation. Beautiful accommodations await you just a few meters away from the beach.

ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS

We are located in Dominical beach, this is a small surf village located in the south pacific of Costa Rica. One of the reasons why this place is so special, is due to it’s evergreen look, the mountains embrace the sea in a romantic kinda way! It is 75 meters west of ICE KOLBI office in Dominical Beach between Quepos and Uvita. It’s about 3 hours away from SJO airport and 25 min from Quepos domestic airport.

CAMP CHARACTER

We provide professional, attentive and patient surf lessons in Dominical beach for all levels and ages. Whether you are a first timer or a seasonal surfer our daily surf lessons and surf coaching programs will exceed your expectations.
You can be sitting in the line-up waiting for waves and in the meantime you can meditate to the beauty of everything surrounding you. On top of this, locals are very friendly in and out of the water, within a couple of days around town you will feel very welcome, recognizing faces and receiving greetings as if you were already part of our beautiful community.

ACCOMMODATION TYPES

We offer 2 different lodging options, both locations within a 2 min walk to the beach! Our standard partner hotel Tropical Sands Inn offering ceiling fan cabins (option to upgrade to A/C), ensuite bathroom, safe box, private little patio with your own hammock. Our premium hotel Mavi Surf offers a great swimming pool and mini bar, A/C rooms, and beautiful private patio outside of each room. We also provide accommodation in beach houses and luxury villas for bigger groups upon request.

CATERING

Applies for premium packages only: your hotel serves fresh breakfast daily from 7.00am to 9.00am.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

SURF COURSE DETAILS

The reason why this town is so popular among the surfing community is due to its uncrowded waves, warm water and surfing for all levels. Join our women only surf retreat in Dominical Beach Costa Rica, where every detail is taken care of to guarantee a stress-free vacation. Each lesson is about 2 hours long. We provide instruction for beginners to advanced intermediate surfers.

Our groups are small, maximum three students per instructor ratio. Transportation, equipment, water and small snack is included.

SURF MATERIALS

We have a variety of boards that you can use throughout the week for extra practice. Some restrictions will apply. For example, during low tide if the conditions are rough we may not let you use it for safety reasons.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Some of the activities that you can enjoy during your visit are hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, horseback riding, Nauyaca waterfall, Whale tale, bird watching, rafting, kayaking, SUP yoga, and guided visit to the animal sanctuary. SURF CONDITIONS

Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots

As many other surf spots in Costa Rica, Dominical has a reputation for its strong and consistent waves. Our great advantage for the surfers who want to take it easier is that there is bay called Dominicalito, which has perfect waves for beginner and intermediate surfers. It’s much softer and has almost no current at all, making it easy to enjoy surfing while feeling safe at the same time.

Seasonal conditions

Temperature is in average 26 C (78 °F) all year round, we recommend you to travel light! Camp is closed during September-October and November due to rainy season.

Crowd factor and local people

Costa Ricans are kind, friendly, and helpful people. The motto of the country is “Pura Vida” which means pure life and it’s the first Spanish word that you will learn, since it means almost everything! Pura Vida is a non-stress lifestyle but also a “thank you”, “how are you”, “hello” and “goodbye”.

JOURNEY

Ways to get to the camp

If you travel solo we offer shuttle transportation from SJO airport to your hotel in Dominical, picking up between 1:00 pm to 3.00 pm every day. For your return, the shuttle departs Dominical to Airport at 7:00am or 3.45pm.

If you travel with more people and have same arrival and departure times we’ll gladly upgrade you to private transportation at your desire times.

Important details

Travel insurance is recommended. During traveling or surfing accidents may occur, it is not common but it’s always better to be ready for any possible incident.
