SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES
SURF COURSE DETAILS
Learn to surf on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, in the waves of Taghazout Bay. Every morning our instructors choose the best spot for your level and drive you there, so you spend your time in the water.
Every morning the instructors check the swell, the wind and the tide, then pick the spot for the day. We surf all the local spots near the house, starting with the beach of Tamraght and Banana Beach.
Three levels, one lesson plan for each
- Beginner: never surfed? We start on the beach with safety, paddling and standing up, then you catch your first waves in the white water.
- Improver: you can stand up. Now you learn to paddle out, read the waves and ride green waves.
- Intermediate: you surf on your own. We polish your technique on the right spots.
Not sure about your level? Tell us on WhatsApp and we place you in the right group.
Many of our guests are complete beginners. Your instructor starts from zero on the beach and adapts every lesson to your level.
The sea changes every day, so there is no fixed spot. If it is flat or too big for your level, the session is replaced by a trip to Paradise Valley or a visit to Souk El Had in Agadir.
Transport to the spots is included in the surf week: we load the boards in the van and drive you there and back every day. Lunch is at the beach, so you can stay for free surf in the afternoon.
A typical day
- 08:30: breakfast at the house
- 10:00: 2-hour surf lesson with your instructor
- 13:00: lunch at the beach, then free surf
- 17:00: sunset on the rooftop, dinner and a movie night
Times change with the tide and the swell, so your instructor confirms the plan each morning.
Lessons are taught by certified local instructors.
Your instructor explains currents and surf etiquette before you paddle out. Beginners always learn in the white water close to the shore.
SURF MATERIALS
Surfboard and wetsuit for the whole stay.
Pack light: board and wetsuit are included, bed linen and towels are provided.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
On a rest day you can join an optional day trip, for example to Paradise Valley, Imsouane or Agadir. Day trips are not included in the price.
Optional day trips are not included in the surf week, but we are happy to help you organise them – ask us for the price on WhatsApp.
MORE INFO, HOW TO GET THERE & FAQ
SURF CONDITIONS
Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots
Tamraght sits in the middle of Taghazout Bay, with many surf spots a short drive away. Every morning our certified instructors check the swell, the wind and the tide, then take you to the spot that suits your level that day.
Banana Beach (Aourir)
A sandy beach in Aourir, just south of Tamraght. It is one of the spots we use most for lessons: the white water is good for learning to stand up, and there is plenty of space on the beach.
Imourane
A long beach north of Taghazout that we use when the conditions there are right for our groups. On the right day it offers clean waves for surfers who can already stand up.
Taghazout
The best-known surf village of the bay, a few minutes north of Tamraght by car. We surf there when the waves suit your level.
The spots around Tamraght
The coast around the village has several other spots. We choose between them every day, depending on the waves and on your level.
How we choose the spot
- The swell: how big the waves are and where they come from
- The wind: offshore wind makes clean waves, onshore wind makes them messy
- The tide: some beaches work better at low tide, others at high tide
- Your level: beginners need gentle white water, intermediates want green waves
This is why we never promise one fixed spot: the right one changes from day to day.
Seasonal conditions
You can surf around Taghazout and Tamraght all year. What changes is the size and the regularity of the waves, so the best time depends on your level and on what you want from your trip.
Autumn to spring: the main surf season
From autumn to spring the Atlantic swell is bigger and more regular. This is the classic season for surfers who already know the basics, and the time most surfers visit Taghazout Bay. Mornings are often clean and the waves come in long, regular sets.
Beginners still learn in this season: when the swell is big, we choose more sheltered beaches where the white water stays gentle.
Summer: smaller, friendly waves
In summer the waves are usually smaller and gentler, which is ideal for complete beginners learning in the white water. It is also the warmest time of year on land, so the afternoons on the beach and the evenings on the rooftop are long.
Which season for which surfer?
- Complete beginner: any time of year; summer is the gentlest
- Beginner who can stand up: autumn to spring for more regular waves
- Intermediate: autumn to spring for the best swell
The weather
The Souss coast is sunny most of the year. Days are warm, but evenings can be fresh, especially in winter, so bring a warm top. The ocean stays cool, which is why a wetsuit is used all year; it is included in your surf week.
SURROUNDINGS / REGION
Characterization of surroundings/region
Paradise Valley
A palm-filled gorge with natural rock pools in the hills above the coast, about an hour inland. It is the classic day out from the bay, especially on a hot day. It is also where we take you for free if the sea is flat or too big for your session.
Souk El Had in Agadir
One of the biggest markets in Morocco: spices, fruit, argan oil, leather, pottery and much more. Go in the morning, take your time and agree on prices before you buy.
Agadir Oufella viewpoint
The hill above Agadir with the old kasbah walls and a wide view over the bay, the port and the city. Beautiful at sunset.
Agadir seafront and marina
A long promenade along the beach, cafés and the marina – an easy walk for an afternoon in the city.
Taghazout village
A few minutes from Tamraght: walk the main street, watch the surfers on the points, have a coffee or a fresh juice with an ocean view.
Activities and facilities
Ocean-view rooftop, Moroccan lounge and a private cinema room.
Sun loungers on the ocean-view rooftop, a mint tea in the Moroccan lounge, a film in the private cinema room. Sometimes the best rest day is the one with no plan.
