CAMP CHARACTER

What makes our team unique is that they are not just your surf-, fitness instructor, chef or cleaning lady, they might become your friend and they will be there guiding you step by step and that’s what is different.

We are not just providing you a surf lesson and that’s all. We want to know our customers so we interact with them, invite them for exploring trips, a drink or two before some nightlife adventure, boat parties and more.

We eat breakfast and dinner together, after dinner there will be different kinds of activities going on in the camp to ease up the vibe and bring everyone together and share unforgettable moments. In our camp we are all like a big family with different nationalities but with same passion and vison of how to live life to the fullest.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING

Our dorm room has its own balcony, bathroom and beautiful outdoor shower with jungle views.

CATERING

We know how important having the right food and plenty of it is for hungry surfers here at  Lanka Living. Using the best local, fresh produce our brunches and dinners are legendary and sure to fuel those big surf sessions.

Depending on swell and weather conditions and how everyone is feeling we usually start the day with some coffee, fresh fruit and other snacks before our surf lesson at around 8am. Surfing on a full stomach is not the greatest feeling and can hinder your performance. After the lesson it’s brekky time! We have a huge spread of fresh fruits, banana pancakes, coconut oatmeal, coconut rotti, omelettes, fresh bread, roast tomato, tea, coffee, fresh smoothies and more!

Four nights of the week we have a big family dinner inside the camp. We mix it up every night and once a week have a Sri Lankan feast or Barbeque. On the two nights that we eat out we will show you to our favorite local spots you will love as much as we do!

All meals in the camp are prepared by our teams chefs who will happily cater to any dietary requirements you might have.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

SURF COURSE DETAILS

Surf lessons

Lanka Living surf squad includes 5 guided surf tours each week we split into two groups, level 1 (beginner) and level 2 (intermediate) . We stack our surfboards on top of our tuk tuks and will drive you down to one of the many amazing breaks we are lucky enough to have on our doorstep.

Our surf lessons are around 2 hours long divided in two parts:

Theory – Safety, technique, surfing history, ocean knowledge and video analysis.

Practice – We practice paddling, pop ups and stance on the beach so we have it down perfectly as we head into the water. Once in the water our instructors will be with you every step of the way making sure you catch as many waves as possible, improve your technique and most importantly – have fun!

OTHER ACTIVITIES

It is definitely a fascinating place to visit.

Why we Love Surfing in Sri Lanka?

With tropical, warm temperatures all-year-round and perfect waves nearly every day during our season (November-April) South Sri Lanka is a surfers paradise. Winds are offshore making clean waves, swells are consistently good and rain is at a minimum. Sri Lanka offers ideal conditions and a variety of breaks to suit all skill levels. Sri Lankan locals are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet so the lineup is always full of good vibes, especially with our squad!

 JOURNEY

Ways to get to the camp

The distance from Colombo airport to Ahangama is about 135km.

We highly recommend airport transfer which is by far the fastest and smoothest way of getting here. The transfer will cost $100 and will take up to 4 people/Taxi, you will be in our camp around 3 hours after pickup. We can easily arrange this on request, just notify us by email.

For the hardcore ones, you can make your own way to the camp by bus or train, it will be a bit more tricky though. You need to get either a Taxi or Tuk Tuk to Negombo, from there you take a bus to Matara followed by another bus to Ahangama or the train to Ahangama.

Please note bringing surfboard with you on bus, train might not be allowed or charge you extra for it.

Surfing:

As an instructor she strikes the right balance between supportive and taking no bullshit. She observed our ability and bought us out surfing out on some of the local reefs. D and I were confident in the water but unsure of our skills when it came to knowing what to drop into. Mikaela pushed us out of our comfort zones encouraging us to take risks and progress our surfing, knowing what we able for and what we weren't. We both came out buzzing from surf sessions. You can be guaranteed to learn about the technical aspects of surfing, whilst having a balance of banter, and building your confidence with Mikaela and her team. Mikaela took time out of her own day to show us the lay of the land, give us useful tips an info when we set off to explore central Sri Lanka.

Other (e.g. Surroundings, Nightlife, etc.):

Mikaela took time out of her own day to show us the lay of the land, give us useful tips an info when we set off to explore central Sri Lanka. I'll be back to train with Mikaela and hopefully push my surfing, have the banter and enjoy the beautiful beaches and mountains and curry Sri Lanka and Mikaelas team has to offer.

Surfing:

When I met this girl the first time in the tropical zone, I got little scared cause she had “balls like a bull”- she was damn strong. After the first surfsession with her- I knew SHE is it, she should be my teacher: she took all my fear from my shoulders, she gave me faith in myself whereof I started to trust myself, she was still honest with me and accepted as well as respected my limits [whenever my fear got bigger than the waves] and of course she showed me how to get control over yourself/myself if you get into a runaway situation in the wild ocean. This girl is not just a motivation bomb- she is a gorgeous all around packet: she can dance with you- whenever you miss music in your life, she will cry with you- whenever you want to share your sufferbaggage. But she will show you as well her teeth through a huge smile to remember you on the sunny moments in life and she will be the best lifeguard buddy you can imagine- whenever you need to catch a new vibe.

Other (e.g. Surroundings, Nightlife, etc.):

So all in one: she is an unique, strong, disciplined, open, interesting, beautiful and faithful person- so the best “bar” you can get. See you hopefully soon, babe.
