ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

Set in the small beachside town of Tamraght, you’re close to so many amazing surf spots and beaches. With the mountains behind you and the ocean in front, you couldn’t ask for a better place to spend a week. There are some lovely cafes in the village, and a few shops to buy some supplies if you need. The village has an easy-going vibe and is full of like-minded that are happy to chill and take in the scenery!

For those wanting beach breaks and for our surf lessons, there are a number of great beach breaks to chose from, all with beautiful beaches to relax on when you need a break! The areas on offer includes Devils Rock, Crocro beach, Panorama beach, K17, Anza, Tamri and Immsouane Bay. Then for the more advanced or adventurous surfers, there is world-famous Anchor Point, Killers, La Source, Panorama Point, Boilers and Draculas close by. Depending on the conditions, we also make the trip north to Immsouane – famous for being the longest right-hander in Morocco. This beautiful spot is a must visit for suffers of all levels, not only for the waves but for the amazing fish lunch as well!

Our family run business not only gives you the chance to surf and enjoy the warm African sun, you can also learn the local language and experience traditional Moroccan life: from listening to Berber music, shopping in the local souk and seeing the beautiful textiles of the region, to discovering how to make the perfect mint tea!

Ismail, surf instructor and founder, is always around to make sure people get the most out of their time in Morocco. A certified instructor with the ISA and experience teaching with the Association Surf Academy, his experience with surfing, teaching and the local area is extensive.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING

Stay with us in a traditional Berbere family house, and enhance your Moroccan experience. A beautiful house with well-equipped, modern kitchen, a number of guest rooms and well-decorated bathrooms, we have all the home comforts you need. We also have a traditional Berbere salon, which is the perfect place to chill out after a long day at the beach. The rooftop terrace is a great place to eat and relax, and watch the beautiful African sunsets.

Food is a big part of Moroccan culture, so we will make sure you get to taste all of our amazing dishes – from tajine to cous cous, grilled sardines to Moroccan omelette and of course our famous bread. And a trip to the avocado juice bar is always on the agenda. With Moroccan Surf Journey you can learn to cook with us, giving you an insight into everyday life and giving you the skills to impress your friends and family with new dishes! You will leave feeling like one of the family, and will always be welcome back with us again.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

Our local instructors with years of experience and knowledge of the surf conditions will help you to get the most out of your surf-time in Morocco! They will show you the best spots depending of your level: no matter if you are a complete beginner or a pro-surfer – with us you gonna step to the next level!

Freedom of surfing is a freedom of choice: you can take a surf lesson or surf guiding with our instructor, or just a transfer to the beach.

Seasonal conditions

Morocco’s coastline has the straightest swell exposure in the North Atlantic. The NW exposed beachbreaks can suffer from a swell excess, but that´s when the pointbreaks and sheltered spots are surfed. In Winter, tradewinds from the NE will make light to moderate cross-shores at most spots, whilst SW facing spots like Taghazout will be offshore. Most of the country’s top surf spots are centered around Agadir and Taghazout, where the average December sea temperature is around 64.5°F/ 18°C. Therefore, even in winter, a thin wetsuit is usually enough to keep out the cold. Sea temperatures vary between 16 and 22°C/61 to 72°F. Morocco’s central surf zone is a semi-tropical venue. The Winter climate gives warm days, chilly nights and some rainfall.

Characterization of surroundings/region

Tamraght and the surrounding area has a long history of fishing, and you can still see the small blue boats around the beaches and out in the ocean – and of course the fish in the area is fresh daily. The area is also well known for argan oil, and you can go into the mountains and see them making it from the orginal argan nut, and there are plenty of places to buy argan products. Berbere peanut butter is another delicious and local treat, as is the specialised honey you can buy. Tamraght and the other villages around are rich in culture and in history, so it’s a great place to visit and maybe buy some treats to take home!

Ways to get to the camp

By Plane

Many airlines fly directly to Agadir and even more to Marrakesh. Approximate flight time to Morocco from Europe is between 3-4 hours.

*Transfers from Agadir airport or bus station are included in the packages.

Guest arriving to Marrakesh airport have the option to take a short taxi ride directly to Marrakesh bus station where you can get CTM or SUPRA TOURS bus to Agadir which costs around 10€.The bus will take you about 3 hours.

If you prefer a private taxi we’ll arrange for you. If your flight arrives late to Marrakesh we recommend an overnight stay at the Ibis hotel, not only is it a great place to stay but it is also right next to the bus station so you can resume your journey straight away in the morning.

By Car

You can also come with your own car or van by taking a ferry from Tarifa or Algeciras to Tangier and there is a highway all the way to Agadir, is in very good condition, safe and cheap. It will takes you around 7 hours driving.

Important details

Visas are not usually required for European Union Passport holders for stay up to ninety days. Please note however that Passport must be valid for six months from the date of entry into Morocco. An address of accommodation is required, which we will supply.
